Despite what the name may tell you, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator isn’t exactly accurate, but that’s part of the gimmick. As it changed and evolved over the years with new patches and factions being added regularly, the game’s near slapstick comedy style in its approach to unit design and gameplay has endeared it to the community.

Although the models made by the game’s developers, Landfall Games are still unique and have their own weird abilities, the content created by the community is where the real oddities lurk. There are tons of great maps, battles, and units within the Workshop that are interestingly designed and fun to play around with. But with so many interesting modded units to pick, it can be difficult to weed out the useful ones, so here are some of the best that are worth checking out.

14 Halberd Black Knight

There might already be knights in the game but they sometimes look a little plain. Their armor and swords are effective but they lack that special something. Fortunately, there’s an alternative available. The Halberd Black Knight is exactly what it says on the tin: a knight wielding a halberd.

Not only does this knight have an extended reach thanks to their weapon, but they also have some stylish armor that makes them really stand out in amongst the chaos of fighting off an entire army of halflings.

13 Godzilla

Godzilla has already gone against a huge number of monsters in the movies, and with this free mod for TABS, you can bring in the king of lizards for your own custom battles.

Although the model is a little unsteady on its feet, this is by design, so don’t worry. For his main attack, he calls forth gigantic bolts of lightning that spew from his mouth and hit their targets with a massive explosion. If the ranged attack doesn’t make short work of anyone, then being hurled by its bulk will as it whips its massive head and tail around the battlefield.

12 Minigun Raptor

Dinosaurs are cool. Miniguns are cool. So why not combine the two? Well, the TABS modding community clearly couldn’t find any reason not to combine dinosaurs and firearms and so the Minigun Raptor was created.

There isn’t much strategy involved in using this particular unit. It is, after all, a velociraptor with miniguns strapped to it. The high rate of fire of the miniguns and the speed these raptors can move at make for a deadly combination regardless of the foe. So sit back, relax, and watch these masters of destruction go about their work.

11 Zombies

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator is long overdue for a zombie mode — there are some great locations that are perfect for reenacting a last valiant stand against an encroaching undead horde. Unfortunately, until the developers add this as a feature, the Zombie unit in the Workshop is the next best thing.

This free addon brings the iconic shambling horror to the game, and whilst not powerful on their own, they’re incredibly strong as a horde. A good tactic for using them is to keep them spread out in the open where they can overwhelm with superior numbers.

10 Saitama

Similar to the titular character of the anime and manga, Saitama — or One Punch Man as he’s normally known — is a custom TABS unit that is ridiculously overpowered in every way.

This bald-headed, spandex-wearing oddity not only zips around at almost impossible-to-see speeds, but each hit instantly kills whatever it touches. Plus, any unfortunate units that are near the initial punch are propelled away by the force of the blow. If you want a round that ends in literal seconds, then bring along Saitama, as he can make quick work of anyone in the long and diverse roster of units available in TABS.

9 Jotaro/Star Platinum

Before you can ask, yes, this is a JoJo Reference. Jotaro and Star Platinum from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure are here and their insanely aggressive punching makes a mockery of any hostile force put in front of them.

With Jotaro and his iconic Stand, Star Platinum, sat astride his shoulders, this deadly duo is an unstoppable team that can wade out of any fight unscathed. Their strongest ability is their lightning-fast punches as Star Platinum’s can swat projectiles harmlessly out of the air like they were nothing. Then, once Jotaro gets close enough, Star Platinum lets out a devastating explosive punch. With the perfect defense and offense combined, these two are a walking typhoon of pain.

8 Assassin Drone

Do you ever feel as though TABS units are too low-tech? Probably not, but modders like to solve problems that don’t exist and so the Assassin Drone was created. This four-rotor drone hovers above the ground meaning only the most determined melee units will be able to bring it down.

Although even ranged units might struggle as this drone carries a bomb launcher on its underside which allows it to make short work of any opposing forces. So if it’s a swift victory you want then the Assassin Drone is the perfect unit for you to use.

7 Tesla Tank

Fans of the Command and Conquer series should be familiar with this name, but for those that aren’t, the Tesla Tank is essentially a rolling fortress of a tank that fires lightning bolts.

Whilst this armored menace may not look the same as the C&C unit that it’s named after, its effects are still the same. This mobile artillery piece brings down the power of Zeus through its mighty cannons, decimating any that stand in its way with a thunder crack as it silently trundles along.

6 Dragon

The base game roster for units in TABS is absolutely huge. There are a lot of unique units to use and even more to unlock, and whilst its fantasy faction does have quite the stable of magical beasts, you can never go wrong with a big Dragon.

Although he looks a little like the final Dragon boss Alduin from Skyrim, the two are very different. This gigantic creature is available through the Workshop and it can cause all sorts of chaos as it lobs gigantic boulders and creates whirling cyclones that launch helpless units into the air. It also comes equipped with a sword-wielding Dread Lord that throws fireballs from atop his awkwardly walking steed.

5 The Tower

This is probably the unit most like the official ones you find in the base game. It’s made in the same style, has obvious medieval inspiration, and is utterly ridiculous in battle. One oversized man carries the front wall of a medieval castle tower, while on his shoulders there is a regular TABS archer doing his best to keep his bow aimed at the enemy.

This double-stacked unit can fight at range and in melee combat all while blocking enemy projectiles, making them the perfect unit to lead your army into battle. Alternatively, you can make an army of Towers and form a wall that is equal parts impenetrable and deadly.

4 Colossal Titan

All the big units in the Workshop can be a little wobbly, but the Colossal Titan from the hit Manga series Attack On Titan is perhaps one of the largest units deployed on the map. So, you definitely don’t want to be in the way if he trips over.

This towering Titan looms above everyone as he showers anyone coming close with a hail of gigantic crushing boulders. But, for anyone that survives this deadly deluge, the Colossal Titan just throws himself bodily on top of them, crushing and killing them instantly.

3 The Among Us Imposter

Among Us is an incredibly popular Indie game that seemed to come out of nowhere and fostered an almost cult-like following in popularity seemingly overnight. Naturally, the TABS community was quick to come up with their own version of this now infamous murderous shapeshifting astronaut.

Although not possessing the tangling tentacles and sharp teeth of the original, the TABS version is still appropriately armed and deadly. Wielding a Desert Eagle and a Machete, this quiet solitary figure is an assassin of the highest caliber and any match-up against him is only going to go one way.

2 The Doom Slayer

Sometimes it’s nice to break away from the historically accurate simulator games and go for something simple and a little bit more violent. One such example is the Doom Slayer. This guy is an unstoppable killing machine in the DOOM series, and also in TABS as well, as the Doom Slayer is a dreadnaught of damage on the battlefield.

This armor-clad chap comes with a miniature version of himself that carries a flamethrower, whilst the Slayer uses his classic Super Shotgun. This combination decimates anything that gets near and his tanky health bar keeps him in the fight for a long time.

1 Titanoboa

Whilst not strictly the strongest creature in the community roster, if you have ever wanted to see what a fight against a gigantic googly-eyed Snake would look like, the Titanoboa is a good start. This monstrous snake is a reference to the popular b-movie Titanoboa by Wide-Eyed Entertainment.

Although the mod still needs a bit of work, this gigantic Python is incredibly aggressive and will instantly zip across the map with lightning speed, crushing all who stand in its way. Whilst this rabid reptile’s attack does allow it to sweep through clumps of units with ease, its large hitbox makes it a vulnerable target if it gets caught on something or bogged down in a group.
