If there’s one thing Assassin’s Creed fans know better than most gamers it’s the agony of wondering when all answers will be revealed. While Assassin’s Creed Revelations, the third and final segment of the Ezio Auditore trilogy, promises to answer a ton of fans’ questions, Ubisoft says they don’t want to lay all of their cards on the table just yet.
Realistically, Ubisoft wants to keep the Assassin’s Creed franchise going for as long as fans will let it. It may not be the scenario those who have studied every element of the Assassin’s Creed universe were hoping for, but trust that Ubisoft knows what they’re doing, or at least they claim to.
What may please AC fans to hear is the fact that Ubisoft — when looking over a list of Top 10 things fans want answered from the series — is answering at least seven of those lingering questions. Whether those answers will be satisfying, or if Revelations will bring on just as many questions as it does answers, we do not know, but we definitely hope Ubisoft has a long-term plan.
Much like what happened with Lost or, as cited by Revelations’ Creative Director Alex Amancio, X-Files, Ubisoft does not want the weight of the Assassin’s Creed mythology to crumble the whole series. “A lot of doors have been left open,” says Amancio, so as to keep from disappointing fans with something that gets too focused on closing doors and doesn’t leave the options out there.
While it’s not surprising to hear that Assassin’s Creed Revelations won’t be answering all of our questions, this news should be satisfying on two fronts. For starters, the fact that seven of the major lingering questions will no longer be nagging us day and night is a real relief. And also hearing Ubisoft acknowledge the weight of their mythology breeds hope that they won’t screw this up. Story details are still vague, but you’re not going to want to miss this one.
If you could only have one question about the Assassin’s Creed universe answered, what would it be? Do you have faith that Ubisoft will be able to tie the ever-growing mythology up into a neat package?
Assassin’s Creed Revelations releases November 15, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
