It’s been a turbulent development for Battlefield Hardline. The cops-and-robbers shooter from Visceral Games was originally slated for release this year, but had to be pushed back to early 2015. This added the game to a list of major titles delayed until next year. However, Visceral Games and publisher EA have tried to improve the quality of gameplay on offer in spite of delays. The beta feedback from players has translated into extensive changes, and Visceral has promised that Battlefield Hardline will work at launch, and won’t suffer from the same problems faced by Battlefield 4.

As such, fans awaiting Battlefield Hardline have been treated to several trailers showcasing gameplay modes and hints at story. Last month, Visceral released a gameplay trailer revealing the first person shooter’s campaign, as well as detailing several multiplayer modes. Then, last week saw the release of a trailer for Battlefield Hardline’s Hotwire multiplayer mode, challenging players to steal a number of marked cars before the police can stop them.

Now, Visceral has released even more details about Battlefield Hardline’s multiplayer modes.  Speaking in an interview with YouTuber and Battlefield 4 aficionado JackFrags, Visceral Games’ General Manager Steve Papoutsis revealed that Battlefield Hardline will include 7 game modes on launch. As of yet, 6 game modes have been confirmed. These are Hotwire, Rescue, Blood Money, Team Deathmatch, Heist, and Conquest (Turf Wars).

There is still one game mode yet to be announced. Some fans were hoping to see a return for Battlefield series game mode favourite Rush. However, Steve Papoutsis has revealed on Twitter that Battlefield Hardline will not include the Rush game mode. Although this disappointed those who were fans of the mode, they may find solace in the slight similarities between Rush and the Heist game mode.

The news about game modes was also joined by another announcement. Papoutsis also revealed that on day one, Battlefield Hardline will release with 9 multiplayer maps. One of these is bound to be High Tension, a map that featured in the multiplayer beta earlier this year. Although this may seem like a small number of maps, Battlefield 3 shipped with the same number, and Battlefield 4 launched with 10 - although that number more than doubled including DLC. Meanwhile, the title is also set to include a single player campaign and eSports modes.

What do you make of this announcement? Do you think 7 game modes and 9 maps in the launch day version is enough? Or do you think fans deserve more map variety from the off? What do you think about the lack of Rush game mode? Let us know in the comments below.

Battlefield Hardline is set to be released in March 2015, and is set to launch for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
