Details on the next Call of Duty are currently scheduled to land on May 1st, but Activision has recruited well-known YouTube celebrity, FPSRussia, to make a video that teases fans with a brand new kill-streak item. FPS Russia’s latest video just appeared this morning, linked from the official Call of Duty website.
After following the link, gamers will find a in-depth real-world look at a remote controlled weapon that could make securing victory in the new game a little more dynamic and tactical than the simple strategy of fast-paced running and gunning.
The kill-streak/weapon, which will be featured in this year’s version of the annual Call of Duty franchise, is a remote controlled “Quadrotor.” A Quadrotor is (as its name would imply) a mini helicopter/drone with four rotors, and if it plays half as well as it looks in the video then gamers are in for a treat. The portable chopper touts a sub machine gun with a 100 round magazine, and if it’s finished serving its purpose on the battlefield then it can self-destruct.
Odd timing with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier releasing next month, including a similar drone as a key feature.
We now know that the Quadrotor was the fuzzy picture found on the official Call of Duty site yesterday, so the short-lived speculation on the image can now be put to rest. While ‘Charlene’ may end up being one of the fan-favorite items this time around, there may be a few more subtle hints about the impending game found in the video. FPSRussia says a few things that suggest that the new CoD will take place in the not too distant future.
If FPSRussia isn’t just bragging about how futuristic his weapon is, then it certainly seems likely that Treyarch’s new CoD will be taking place in the future - a first time for them considering all of their games (CoD 3, World at War & Black Ops) have all taken place in the past, tied into actual historical events. If the game (or part of its story) does take place in the future, then the rumored leaked Black Ops 2 weapons list may need a few new additions.
“It may look something you’ve seen before, but believe me, this baby isn’t going to be out there for at least another decade.”
“I hope you guys enjoyed yourselves as much as I did. Looks like the future is going to be fun. But if you can’t wait another 15 years, my friends are telling me that this baby might just be in the next Call of Duty game.”
Fortunately, this speculation won’t remain unaddressed for very long. New information on the next Call of Duty will be released in exactly a week from today (during the basketball playoffs on TNT), so stay tuned to Game Rant for more details as soon as they become available.
