If you’re someone who’s eagerly anticipating the eventual release of the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence, Curse of the Sea Rats might be just the thing you need to satisfy your digital vermin needs while contributing to the creation of the game.
On June 2nd, the Kickstarter campaign for Curse of the Sea Rats - from indie developer Petoons Studio - will go live, with contributors able to take part in the game’s eventual success. Contributions from the Kickstarter campaign will be used to finish the game - which already looks quite charming and fun - and cover costs related to the final stages of producing high-quality animation, development, and production of the game.
No release date has been revealed, but Curse of the Sea Rats will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
Touted as a “ratoidvania,” Curse of the Sea Rats will feature hand-drawn 2D animation on top of 3D environments. The action-adventure platform will also feature real-time combat and swordplay inspired by the Metroidvania genre.
Players will explore the pirate rat-infested island - set along the vast coast of 1777 Ireland - in a non-linear quest system, coming across puzzles, evil creatures, and bosses controlled by the evil pirate, Flora Burn.
Four playable characters are expected to be available at launch, each possessing a plethora of weapons and special abilities to upgrade as players progress through the game. The lore and backstory behind each character will also add additional flavor and context to the beautifully drawn world as players search for secret rooms and special items as they try to reveal the game’s multiple endings.
The single-player campaign is expected to be over 12-hours long for the main quest, while a local co-op multiplayer mode will allow for up to four players.
Fans of Fievel, The Secret Of Nimh, or even Disney’s The Rescuers will likely enjoy the rat-themed adventure of Curse of the Sea Rats. Be sure to check it out when the Kickstarter launches on June 2nd.
