There’s a lot riding on The Taken King for many Destiny players. After a shaky start, the game finally seems to have hit its stride — but whether its first large-scale piece of downloadable content satisfies fans will likely be a deciding factor toward the long term success of the Destiny franchise.
We already know that Guardians will be tasked with taking down Oryx over the course of story missions and strikes, as well as the extra multiplayer content that is being added to the game. However, there’s also set to be some tweaks to less attention-grabbing aspects of the game that devoted players will be very pleased to hear about.
Bungie plans to increase the amount of bounty slots available to players from 10 to 16. Players only had access to five when the game launched, but this was changed alongside The Dark Below following a raft of comments from players that this number was not enough.
Bounties have become an increasingly important part of Destiny since the game launched. New events and expansions have brought with them new bounty givers, which in turn has made it more difficult for players to work on several forms of progression concurrently, given the limits that are in place.
An upgrade to 16 slots will make it much easier to work towards several goals at once, as there’s more room to keep bounties active even while they’re not a priority. However, it’s very likely that this change is being made to allow for even more bounties being handed out.
It seems that Titan Vanguard Commander Zavala will play a key role in the pursuit of Oryx that looks set to dominate the story content coming in The Taken King. As such, it’s likely that he’ll also have his own bounties that players will use to increase a new reputation level and earn some of the expansion’s new gear.
It will be interesting to see whether Bungie employs any other fan-requested features for The Taken King. It seems likely that some sort of upgrade to storage space will be in the works, if not a complete overhaul of the system as it stands at present.
There’s little doubt that we’ll hear plenty more about The Taken King before it launches later this year. Stay tuned to Game Rant for all the latest developments as and when they emerge.
The Taken King is set to launch on September 15, 2015 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
