If you hate spiders, you’re in luck. Kill It With Fire, developed by Casey Donnellan Games, is an arachnophobe’s dream come true since you can get your fill of taking out as many arthropods as you please.

In the FPS game, players can explore different surroundings and wipe out anything that might unwittingly crawl up their leg. By using a variety of weapons, including flamethrowers, guns, hammers and shurikens, you can become a professional spider slayer. Since it’s a video game, don’t let the suburban landscape fool you. You can burn it all to the ground if need be.

The key is to find the arachnids’ weakness, which let’s face it, is anything larger than themselves. As the name implies, though, Kill It With Fire, which promises a “realistic” fire simulation system, doesn’t want you to simply swat a magazine at these eight-legged pests. It wants you to rain holy war down on these creepy crawlies. To locate the spiders, the game gives you cutting-edge arachnid tracking technology since they can literally be anywhere.

Roughly, 3.5% to 6.1% of the global population suffers from arachnophobia, though recent advances in technology have allowed arachnophobes to be treated through the use of virtual or augmented reality. It has also been suggested that exposure to clips from the Spider-Man films can help minimize a person’s arachnophobia. Severe arachnophobia can cause some people to run away, scream, cry, or even faint.

There are more than 43,000 different species of spiders in the world, yet only 30 are dangerous, so our fears are largely irrational. Regardless of what end of the arachnophobia spectrum you’re on, this game can either be your worst nightmare or a great release.

Donnellan stated Kill It With Fire will be released to Steam on August 13. The game developer worked for Rooster Teeth Productions as a Senior Game Engineer and was responsible for RWBY: Grimm Eclipse. In 2019, he left Rooster Teeth to become an independent game creator. Kill It With Fire will be his first game.
