For over two years, rumors have circulated that Grand Theft Auto 5 would hit PC. Originally announced for the PS3 and Xbox 360, gamers had speculated (correctly) that Rockstar Games would eventually re-release the title on new-gen platforms (PS4 and Xbox One) as well as non-console gaming rigs. Still, even though players have been able to tear through the streets of Los Santos on PS4 and Xbox One, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 is still unavailable to gamers who didn’t throw in money for a Sony or Microsoft system....

Many gamers have been cynical of Rare ever since the company was acquired by Microsoft back in 2002, and it’s an understandable stance given the types of content churned out by the developer ever since. With classic franchises from the firm being shelled out to third-party developers — a la Double Helix’s Killer Instinct — Rare’s focus has largely shifted to working on Kinect titles in recent years - not exactly the legacy fans would hope for....

SimCity didn’t do too badly in sales, shifting 2 million units by summer 2013, but the game’s disastrous launch is still remembered as a black mark on gaming last year, up there with the launch fails of Diablo 3. Hopefully it will also serve as a warning sign to other companies about the troubles that come with mandatory anti-consumer, always-online play. Of course, SimCity wasn’t the only game with a shoddy launch last year - Grand Theft Auto Online and Battlefield 4 performed some impressive technical belly-flops of their own - but what was particularly frustrating about the server issues was the fact that SimCity is traditionally oriented towards single player gameplay....

A self-proclaimed puzzle platformer from developers Derek Yu and Andy Hall (Mossmouth), Spelunky is cut from the same cloth as Super Meat Boy or Braid, those frustratingly difficult downloadable games seen in recent years, but with a few elements thrown in to differentiate itself. Needless to say the game is a polarizing affair that is so frustratingly difficult it will send gamers packing in its first minutes, and will ensnare others for a lifetime....

An online persistent world is only as good as the people monitoring it, and the team behind The Old Republic is showing that no hiccup or glitch is too small to be addressed promptly and fully. The newest Patch 1.1.1 is bringing several adjustments to missions and instanced combat, so if a few quest shave proved especially problematic for you, they might finally be fixed. It’s a little too easy to take shots at BioWare given the past few weeks of The Old Republic drama....

The Resident Evil franchise might be attempting a return to its survival horror roots in the upcoming title Resident Evil: Revelations 2, but Resident Evil’s creator Shinji Mikami is exploring the genre in his own new IP, The Evil Within. The first title to be produced by Mikami’s new development company, Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within is a third-person survival horror game that follows police detective Sebastian Castellanos as he and his colleagues are drawn into a nightmarish supernatural world....

Telltale Games’ episodic “choice and consequence” games The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us have been playing havoc with the heartstrings of gamers everywhere over the last couple of years, and will continue to do so for the rest of the summer before the studio’s newest project, Tales From the Borderlands, lands later this year. The Wolf Among Us has weaved a tangled web of lies and corruption as Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown in New York City, tries to bite and claw his way to the truth in the wake of two brutal murders....

Blizzard has kept the Diablo franchise in headlines recently by announcing Diablo IV, a remastered Diablo II, and the mobile game Diablo Immortal. It has been a long time coming, but Psychonauts 2 is finally arriving on consoles…hopefully in 2021. While an official release date has still not been announced by developer Double Fine, the fact that the game is even happening is enough for all of the die-hard fans of the original. While initially a flop, Psychonauts garnered an intense cult following since its release in 2005. Players took control of the lovable Raz, as he, in turn, took control and explored the minds of many memorable characters in his pursuit to join the Psychonauts: a band of psychic-powered spies....

Video games have been responsible for some of the most iconic lines and catchphrases in modern pop culture. Of course, for every well-written game, there’s one that’s packed with cringe-worthy moments and infuriating dialogue. Separate from these games, there is a whole other category in which the title’s leading character doesn’t say a word. Games with silent protagonists have been around for as long as gaming itself. Although some see it as a lazy choice, there are plenty of instances where the lack of dialogue has helped to make a game stronger....

Nobody is going to accuse Ubisoft of shying away from violence. Assassins make ending lives their greatest skill, and Connor Kenway is no exception. The new hero being introduced with Assassin’s Creed 3 is as effective with a blade as any of his predecessors, and the latest trailer shows how many options will be available to players. Tomahawks, muskets, pistols, Hidden Blades, battle axes - it seems there’s nothing Connor can’t use to take out his enemies....

First of all, the most important thing to note is that each Battlefield 3 copy pre-ordered from any of the aforementioned retailers will all contain the ‘Back to Karkand’ map pack that features four Battlefield 2 maps redesigned using the Frostbite 2 engine. So, regardless of who you choose to obtain your copy of BF3 early, you won’t be missing out on the maps. Secondly, the ‘Physical Warfare’ pack, which will be available through GameStop pre-orders, will be made available to all players later in the year....

After the initial excitement of the Nintendo Direct presentation wore off, the day took a major turn for the worse as news of THQ’s auction swept the video game news world, with the once profitable publisher being forced to sell off all its major IPs and developers in an effort to recoup as much of the money they owed to creditors as possible. And while many developers — from Relic Entertainment to Volition — ended up at new homes, there were still plenty of jobs lost in the process....

With less than a month until the launch of Destiny, developer Bungie is likely in a furious race to the finish. As the company has said multiple times before, this is easily their most ambitious project to date, and getting to launch requires a monumental effort. Still, while Bungie might be tweaking the finer points of Destiny right up till launch, the main product is seemingly complete. And in celebration of that, we have a launch trailer for the game above....

While Mortal Kombat X players are eagerly awaiting the addition of Jason Voorhees to the game’s roster, the Killer Instinct faithful are still seeing regular character additions some eighteen months after the title launched. DLC often gets a bad rap, but the seasonal structure of Killer Instinct manages to avoid many of the practice’s pitfalls. Last month’s trailer for the Japanese horror inspired Hisako offered a glimpse of series stalwart Cinder, but this full reveal gives us a much better look at Iron Galaxy Studios’ take on the character....

Killzone 3 turned a year old this week. When we last heard from the first-person shooter’s developer, Guerrilla Games, it was being reported that they were hammering away on the production of Killzone 4, although details of the project have yet to surface. That doesn’t mean the old dog has run out of tricks just yet, however. Killzone 3 may soon be finding a second life at the forefront of a new unique marketing approach by Sony and the PlayStation Network....
