It should go without saying that not every game will be picked up by history. There are a lot of reasons why something may fall through the cracks and be forgotten through time. The easy answer for this is quality. For example, why bother remembering the dozens of copycat Mario platformers that plagued the 80s and 90s. There are still plenty of platformers still worthwhile next to Mario though. The point is every system is going to have a plethora of games, good or bad, that will be lost through the ages, even game sequels from giant franchises....

Id Software finally released the long-awaited follow up to 2016’s Doom reboot, Doom Eternal. It is a direct continuation of the Doom Slayer’s journey exterminating demons, this time taking him to new locations outside of Mars. The team made plenty of changes to the formula, some of which force players to play in a way to which they are not accustomed. To help those who still have not picked it up yet prepare for the unique first-person shooter adventure, below are ten things we wish we knew before we started playing....

In Atlus’ beloved JRPG Persona 5 Royal, you are a down-and-out teen who spends your limited time in Tokyo stuffing your face with cosmos-sized burgers, looking like a crazy person for having conversations with your cat, and of course stealing the hearts of the wicked. A long-standing Call of Duty: Warzone record has been broken, with the record for kills in Duos now standing at 79. Bruno “Nistaf” Silva and his father broke the record, with young Bruno amassing an impressive 61 kills to his father’s 18. Duos has long been a community favorite playlist in Call of Duty: Warzone since it was added last year. Players and their partners were more than eager to jump online and prove that they were the best team out there....

We all love ourselves some piece of freedom, right? Going out and dismantling every structure you see so you can build yours and being as creative as you can with the world… will most likely get you jailed in real-life. However, if you do it in a safe and inconsequential sandbox, like in a video game, you can have the same amount of fun without the sweaty hard work. Now, the term “sandbox” in gaming these days is more like a loose classification of other game genres, but they’re usually massively multiplayer roleplaying games (MMORPG) or survival open-world games....

The release of Captain Marvel is highly anticipated by pretty much every fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — shortened to MCU for obvious reasons — and it’s easy to see why this is the case. After all, the ending of Avengers was an absolute doozy, and fans have been clamoring for the better part of a year to figure out exactly what lies in store for the superhero group. The post-credits scene featured a snippet of Captain Marvel’s logo, which was more than enough to build up the hype for what might just be one of the most powerful superheroes ever to grace the big screen… well, except for Superman, but that’s pretty obvious....

Fans of DC comics should be thrilled by the new series “Titans” coming out later this year. Though no official release date has been given as of yet, we know it will be available through DC’s online streaming service when the time finally does arrive. Until then, we still have the entire history of Teen Titans stories to look back on as we wait. The Titans series has been around a long time now....

Those gamers who fire up their copy of Assassin’s Creed 3’s multiplayer today will find something a little more than they expected. While the multiplayer of the Assassin’s Creed franchise has evolved over the past two iterations, it is in this third game that things take a slight detour, and head into cash grab town. Introduced for Assassin’s Creed 3 is an in-game currency called Erudito Credits, which can be used to purchase various items without consideration for the player’s level....

The first project from the newly formed Supergiant Games brings new gaming sensibilities to some of the most beloved conventions in industry history, and the launch trailer for what may be the star of Xbox Live’s Summer of Arcade shows that a simple brawler doesn’t have to be shallow....

Time has passed since the arrival of a younger, rougher Bruce Wayne in Batman: Arkham Origins, but he has yet to tangle with one of his most famous villains. With the upcoming ‘Cold, Cold Heart’ DLC looking to cool the hot-headed young billionaire vigilante, that’s about to change. The developers had previously hinted that the next story-based DLC would focus on Mr. Freeze, but the new teaser trailer confirms it. Batman may have survived the roster of assassins sent to kill him in Origins, but in the new DLC the chilling supervillain is hitting him much, much closer to home....

A recent virtual fan convention may have reignited fan passion for a classic DC animated series, Batman Beyond. With this being a world of reboots and remakes, some diehards are now discovering they may only be a single campaign away from returning to the futuristic city of Neo-Gotham. At IGN’s Fan Fest, the cast of DC’s 1999-2001 surprise hit series Batman Beyond gathered for a rather creative table read of an old favorite episode, directed live by legendary voice and casting director Andrea Romano herself....

After Electronic Arts recently revealed that they had pulled Dragon Age II from the Steam digital distribution service because of an inability to provide, and charge for, additional content to said game, many gamers began wondering how this would affect future EA games like Battlefield 3. While Electronic Arts is currently working with all the folks responsible for Steam in order to iron out a workable agreement, they have no plans to offer Battlefield 3 on Steam, at the moment....

Blizzard just recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of the PC hit Diablo III. While the game launched to a problematic and controversial start thanks to its always-online requirements and auction house schemes, the game is one of the best selling PC titles ever, selling well over 10 million units before 2012 even ended. While an expansion is expected to be announced at the return of BlizzCon later this year, much of the focus recently has been on the development of the core game for its console debut....

Tesla owner and entrepreneur Elon Musk is a noted video game fan, and has consistently made the ability to play games in his cars a priority. In the eyes of many basketball loving gamers, 2K Sports and the team at Visual Concepts have produced the NBA 2K series to be the reigning king of the court for years. With the release of NBA 2K15, the franchise looks to continue its dynasty run even as EA Sports’ NBA Live series attempts to mount a comeback. Armed with more than a few improvements over last year’s entry, NBA 2K15 can bear the franchise name proudly but there are also more than a few shortcomings this year that may have just opened the door just enough to get a few fans looking at the game across town....

One of the best things about the current generation of video games is their ability to be almost indistinguishable from movies. While the cutting edge technology of today often makes titles’ graphics look practically identical to the world around us, voice acting helps draw gamers in to the story by offering a human element with which we can connect. Ironically, some of the best voice over work in video games is done through cybernetic beings or artificial intelligence, like Jennifer Lee Taylor’s role as Cortana in the Halo titles, and David Eddings’ turn as Claptrap in the Borderlands series....

With JJ Abrams’ Episode 7 film in the midst of production and DICE’s Battlefront (hopefully) ramping up development, Star Wars is about to return in a very big way. After Disney bought LucasFilm in the early part of 2013 most expected them to leverage this billion-dollar property to the best of their ability, and leverage they have. However, while most of the Star Wars game development duties have passed to Electronic Arts, Disney still has the freedom to deliver franchise tie-ins of their own....

The Batman is an upcoming film directed by Matt Reeves, staring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz. The film was started conceptually by Ben Affleck after being cast in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. However, in 2017, Affleck stepped down to focus on his acting, and Matt Reeves took over the project. He altered the story to involve a younger Batman, functioning almost as an origin story, with a focus on the notion of Batman as a detective....
