Sony’s Playstation Vita was released in 2011 and was the follow up to the Playstation Portable. The system had many great features like a multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, the first handheld with dual analog sticks, LCD screen, and more - this thing was packed with tech. Unfortunately, the Playstation Vita was not a massive success which might be the reason Sony decided to leave the handheld market entirely. While there wasn’t a lot of third-party support for the system, there were many indie games that were brought to the Playstation Vita....

In the modern age of video games, DLC has become such a huge part of game release schedules that it’s not unheard of for a DLC to develop a mind of its own and wander away from the main game entirely. Freedom Cry, the story DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, impressed critics with its tale of slave-turned-pirate-turned-Assassin Adewale, who in the main game was merely Edward Kenway’s quartermaster but got upgraded to protagonist status for the DLC....

To say that the annual release of Call of Duty is a major event would be to put it mildly. Gamers around the globe flock to the series like few others, ready to consume the next iteration’s single player campaign and sink hours into its multiplayer. Or at least they used to. Now, gamers are a little more discerning of the Call of Duty franchise. They aren’t as easily swayed by the game’s big budget theatrics and the lack of multiplayer or graphical innovation has left a lot to be desired....

Beyond: Two Souls isn’t the only upcoming game filling its cast with award-winning thespians. Bethesda has revealed a segment of the supporting cast for its steampunk first-person shooter, Dishonored - only a week after inaugurating a series of gameplay vignettes for the title. We already know that Lost’s Josh Holloway gives voice Dishonored’s protagonist assassin, Corvo, but read on to see the newly-announced ensemble talent headed to the dystopia of Dunwall this October....

Michelle Rodriguez and Justice Smith are slated to join Chris Pine in Paramount’s, Dungeons & Dragons. Deadline reports that the film will feature an ensemble cast and take on a “subversive approach to the game.” Rodriguez is best known for her work in Avatar and Resident Evil, as well as playing Letty in The Fast and the Furious franchise. Meanwhile, Smith starred in Jurassic World and alongside Ryan Reynolds in Detective Pikachu....

In today’s round of Skyrim news we have a couple of crafty ways in which gamers have discovered they can level up their characters. The upcoming Mobius Final Fantasy game recently drew a lot of attention for a controversial change. Its hero, Wol, (an abbreviation of ‘Warrior of Light’) underwent a costume change. But this isn’t your average redesign— citing feedback from players, the game’s developers changed Wol’s costume because it was deemed “too sexy.” Calling costumes too sexy is not new in the gaming industry, but it’s usually a criticism leveled at the costumes female characters wear....

Oftentimes games are built with a specific mechanic in mind, and then a story and a concept are built around said mechanic. But occasionally those two ideas work in tandem, either to stunning effect or simply to instill a little charm in the player. Octodad: Dadliest Catch, for example, chooses to blend a pretty simple, yet utterly comical, mechanic with a story that’s equally goofy. In the end, however, the mechanic and the barebones story don’t necessarily coalesce into something that’s deep or involved....

For Resident Evil developer Capcom, the series’ fourth official outing proved both a blessing and a curse: blessing because it revamped and re-energised the series, curse because it set the bar just a little too high. Having succeeded as a shooter, Resident Evil 4 helped popularize a more action-oriented approach to survival horror. Its monstrous success even prompted Capcom to retool the series’ central ethos, swapping out shocks and scares for bullets and bombs....

After the collapse of S.T.A.L.K.E.R developer GSC Game World, series fans were left wondering what would become of the post-apocalyptic franchise. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 was cancelled, as remnants of GSC moved on to create an MMOFPS titled Suvarium. Well, S.T.A.L.K.E.R fans have a reason to smile today, as publisher BitComposer has acquired the rights to the series - and promises more games to come. Cloud Imperium Games has today released a new, and very substantial update, for the Star Citizen Arena Commander module. The update includes a few features that the developer has been showing off at press events like Gamescom, as well as a few tweaks that fans have been requesting since going hands-on with the dogfighting module back in June. The update’s (version 0.9) biggest new feature is the introduction of the Murray Cup Racing Mode, which gives players the opportunity to race their pledge ships with friends (or random players)....

As most predicted the very moment the MMO was unveiled, Star Wars: The Old Republic will be going free-to-play up to level 50 this November. Electronic Arts, publisher for the once highly anticipated MMO, announced the news today saying that the “subscription-only model presented a major barrier for a lot of people.” With The Old Republic’s new subscription model, new players will able to experience the eight unique storylines up to level 50, and can access certain new content and advanced features, but not all of them....
