It seems like a popular mobile app hasn’t officially transitioned from disposable time waster to gaming phenomenon if it hasn’t been made a browser-based app. Angry Birds is literally available on every platform imaginable, and now its biggest competition, Cut the Rope, is starting to follow in its footsteps. Thus far, Bungie’s new title, Destiny, has managed to gain the attention of many avid gamers for a myriad of reasons. Partially because it’s the first time in well over a decade that the developer has released a game on multiple consoles, but also because the information unveiled about the game so far has painted a very promising picture for fans. Even after just releasing the brand new expansion, House of Wolves, in May which changes and updates a number of things with Destiny, Bungie was not content to sit back this year at E3 2015. After initially teasing an announcement prior to the show, the studio held their word and revealed a new trailer for the next upcoming expansion known as The Taken King. While Bungie has remained somewhat silent on providing detailed information outside of Oryx being the defacto villain in this expansion, Destiny fans at E3 this year have managed to uncover the perks coming to all three subclasses once the brand new expansion, The Taken King, hits Destiny in September....

In the realm of PC digital game purchases, the act of pre-loading games ahead of launch has become common practice, allowing the user access to the game immediately as it releases. For several reasons, consoles have been left out of the feature, but interested PS4 gamers need not worry for much longer, as the first title to make use of pre-loading has officially been announced: Destiny. Beginning with rumors and the subsequent denial that the Xbox One would offer the option to pre-load Titanfall, it didn’t take long before a developer stated that pre-loading would be hitting the PS4 in April....

When it was first unveiled back at E3 2013, first person zombie survival title Dying Light showed a lot of potential. Developed by the same folks who brought us the first Dead Island, the game looked to be a more polished version of that last-gen release, albeit with some smoother melee and a cool parkour-inspired traversal system. Having now played Dying Light, however, it’s clear that the potential is still there for the franchise to be great, but the first finished product never quite hits the mark....

Massive online battle arena (MOBA) games such as DOTA 2 and League of Legends are becoming the most high-profile entries in gaming - drawing large audiences during Twitch streams and generating million-dollar prize pools for e-sports tournaments. It comes as no surprise then that Blizzard, who dominates the MMO marketplace with World of Warcraft, would want to expand into the MOBA space. Instead of a MOBA, Blizzard prefers to call Heroes of the Storm, their first entry in the category, a “hero brawler,” most likely to distinguish themselves from the high learning curve, sometimes aggressive player base, and complicated interface that some associate with the genre....

Arrowhead Game Studios definitely knows how to make a fun title. Their breakout hit Magicka has become a phenomenal success on Steam, despite their rocky start with many bugs, and continues to grow. The developer announced today a new DLC for the game called Magicka: The Stars are Left. This DLC has a theme, similar to how Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam was the basis for Magicka: Vietnam. This time however, the game is based around the legend of Cthulhu which should lead to some hilarious and fun antics that the developers are known for....

Little more than a week after Hollywood rolls out the red carpet for its Oscar party on February 26, BioWare will be offering a star-studded affair of its own with Mass Effect 3. The high flying sci-fi action RPG series known for its cinematic qualities has assembled a huge cast of voice actors from across the entertainment industry, and is looking to close out Commander Shepard’s epic saga with a bang....

It’s been a while since we last heard about Metro: Last Light. It’s been even longer since we heard about the game’s multiplayer. Unfortunately for those interested, THQ and 4A Games have decided to scrap the elusive multiplayer component. The decision to cancel Metro Last Light’s multiplayer came shortly after E3 2012, THQ revealed today. Developer 4A Games had a small team working on the game’s multiplayer, but it eventually “decided to fold the multiplayer team into the main group....

In the four and half years since Markus ‘Notch’ Persson opened up the alpha for his crafting meets survival game, Minecraft has become one of the most popular indie games of all time. Not only has the game managed to set record-breaking sales since its official worldwide release in 2011, but the craze has also spread outside of the indie gaming community and spawned mobile versions, console ports, t-shirts, Halloween costumes, and more....

Over the past two years, crowd-funding has become an aspect of the gaming landscape that is impossible to overlook. As arguably its biggest success story, Star Citizen is not only one of the most ambitious projects in recent years, but it seems to have tapped an endless well of funding. Having surpassed $37 million just over one month ago, the game has managed to now put $39 million in the bank and shows no signs of slowing....

Like all things, gaming has to evolve over time. We can’t expect games to stay the same forever and ever, otherwise they’ll stagnate and the industry will eventually fall. Yet it is nice to look back on the older parts of gaming, to see where we’ve come from while still being able to have fun with them - just look to Nintendo and New Super Mario Bros. Wii as an example....
