We’re still over a month away from the release of Mortal Kombat X, but excitement for the game is strong. This past week we were treated to another exciting bit of gruesome fighting in a new gameplay video that featured some new and seasoned Mortal Kombat fighters. From that video we also learned of a few more Kombatants that may be joining the ranks of NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming brutality-fest. As more fighters are revealed and confirmed we can’t help but feel the same excitement that filled our gamer souls when the first Mortal Kombat was released in 1992 – at least those of us old enough to remember when the franchise started....

As NetherRealm’s latest entry in the storied Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat X, creeps closer, more and more information about the brutal fighter surfaces. In the past few weeks alone, gamers have seen confirmation that long-time Mortal Kombat stalwarts Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade will return, the official reveal of horror icon Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) as a playable character, and the unveiling of a free-to-play mobile tie-in. So far, most of NetherRealm’s announcements have focused on new (or returning) characters and updated gameplay modes; far less attention has been given to the game’s involved story mode....

Rayman Legends, Ubisoft’s follow-up to last year’s fantastic Rayman Origins, is set to debut at (or near) the launch of Nintendo’s Wii U. Like Origins, Legends is a classic 2D platformer with with drop-dead gorgeous graphics and animation. Where Origins supported multiplayer for up to four players, Legends goes one further – five players can work through the game together, with four using Wii Remotes or Wii U Pro Controllers, and the fifth taking charge of the action on Wii U’s GamePad....

It seems that even without completing the game, the developers of Star Wars 1313 have immortalized themselves in the franchise - as far as gamers are concerned. It seemed that just moments after the team first unveiled what looked to be the most promising and impressive Star Wars game in years, rights to the franchise were acquired by Disney, and the game was grounded before it even took flight. Then came the worse news....

The sales pitch for Respawn Entertainment’s brand new series Titanfall is easy enough to decipher: giant mechs thrown into combat with jetpack-wielding soldiers. That gameplay is enough to attract even casual gamers’ attention, but if you’re setting your sights on Call of Duty-level success (the unspoken goal of publisher EA, at least) then the hardcore crowd must find the product satisfactory. One of the greatest JRPGs of the current generation, Persona 5 Royal features over 150 hours of storyline, mini-games, battling, and tons of wonderful music. For those new to the genre or series, Persona 5 Royal invites all newcomers. However, it pays to keep a few things in mind. Atlus is gracious with tutorials while never being too heavy-handed, it would benefit the player to know what to expect before diving in....

Guild Wars 2 has a solid reputation for being one of the most approachable MMORPGs to date. Even now, it continues to welcome players with open arms as its third expansion, End of Dragons, also waits just around the corner. Speaking of the third expansion, that probably got some budding players excited and it ought to bring an influx of newbies to the game. Dark Souls 3 is the perfect ending to the massively successful and incredibly well-made series it’s is. The Dark Souls trilogy is widely considered by many to be one of the best video games of all time and that praise unreservedly holds merit. The series is praised for its unforgiving, yet rewarding gameplay and its worldbuilding aspect. The story of Dark Souls 3 is told in a very subtle way. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath adds a whole new section to the story in addition to the three new characters, stages, stage fatalities, and friendships. Taking place immediately after the base game’s conclusion, it follows Nightwolf, Shang Tsung, and Fujin as they travel back in time to prevent catastrophe. In true Mortal Kombat fashion, the plot is packed with twists and turns. It can be difficult to keep all the plot beats in order, but the following list will sort out the most important facts....

With all the excitement over Assassin’s Creed: Unity, it’s easy to forget that Ubisoft has another Assassin’s Creed title launching this week. Assassin’s Creed Rogue may not have Unity’s next-generation graphics or an exciting new setting like the French Revolution, but its story promises to be an interesting twist on the standard Assassin’s Creed formula. Following last year’s successful collaboration on the markedly good Toy Story 3: The Video Game, Avalanche Software and Disney Pixar have teamed up once again to deliver a game based on the studio’s latest big screen adventure. About two-three weeks ago we talked about the then-just-announced zombie-themed MMO titled The War Z, a game that’s been in development since last year but was revealed just as the popularity of the ARMA 2 mod DayZ was seemingly reaching a fever pitch with over over 700,000 players. As the game continued to break into the headlines of gaming media sites, DayZ creator Dean “Rocket” Hall expressed his desire to turn the mod - currently an incomplete and buggy alpha build - into a standalone game, but he required resources and backing to make that happen and we all wondered why Bohemia Interactive (developers of the ARMA series) hadn’t already scooped up the opportunity....

Despite taking on a comparable philosophy to that of Activision’s immensely popular Skylanders franchise, Disney Infinity is an incredibly ambitious project from Avalanche Software that’ll more or less be make or break for Disney’s game division. Just how much cash has the house of mouse pumped into the game’s development? According to The Wall Street Journal, over $100 Million has been sunk into the title — and that’s excluding marketing expenses....
