Not long after Ubisoft pulled back the curtain on Assassin’s Creed Rogue the developers have given fans a few looks at the game in action. We went hands-on with Rogue at a recent preview, but thanks to Gamescom, the public can now watch new hero Shay Patrick Cormac advancing the Templar cause on both land and sea. And if fans of Black Flag weren’t sure that a shift in allegiance was enough to warrant a standalone game, this video should help make up their minds....

Debuting back in 2008, Battlefield: Bad Company delivered a streamlined, single-player-focused Battlefield experience on home consoles. Focusing on a 4-man squad of military misfits, the game garnered widespread praise for its humorous and self-aware take on numerous combat clichés, including a geeky tech expert, and a man with 3 days left until retirement. An all-round fan favorite, the series appeared to be K.I.A following the release of a 2010 sequel and subsequent Vietnam-era add-on pack, though according to at least one top EA developer, the boys of B-company are certain to return....

There are few things more certain than a new Call of Duty title being perpetually in development, but recent reports are starting to show a marketing strategy that is more mysterious than previously seen. It was expected that EA Sports would introduce the world to the latest iteration of the FIFA series during their conference at E3 2014, and the company delivered with a trailer reminiscent of their “Beautiful Game” speech from 2006. It’s that warm nostalgia that has Eurocom working hard to create a GoldenEye game that is worthy of the memory of the original. A few weeks ago, Blizzard promised to release more details regarding their upcoming team-based shooter Overwatch at PAX East. True to their word, this morning’s press conference took the convention by storm. Not only did the developer announce an upcoming Heroes of the Storm competition and drop the release date for the next Hearthstone expansion, but the studio also unveiled a pair of trailers revealing two new Overwatch characters, as well as a rough date for the game’s impending beta....

We first learned that there would be a Soul Calibur V back in May, thanks to a mysterious countdown on the Japanese Namco Bandai website. We then got an official confirmation, along with the revelation that the game took place 17 years after the last one, meaning a slew of new characters would be included along with some returning faces. The timeskip certainly raises some questions as to who could return, and what they would look like, but a new Soul Calibur V trailer from Gamescom 2011 shows a few familiar faces to satisfy our curiousity....

With only one more episode left in TellTale’s The Walking Dead series, the developer has set up a foundation for a dramatic ending to what has been an entertaining and thrilling ride (read our review of episode four). With time running out to find Clementine and the enemy still lurking in the shows, the fifth and final episode will hopefully provide closure - and, perhaps, several different endings tailored by each player’s individual choices....

While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that 2021 has been a banner year for hard video games, anyone who seeks out difficult games as a cathartic escape from difficult times certainly won’t be disappointed by this year’s selection of controller smashing, monitor breaking, soul-shaking experiences. In fact, it was an especially interesting year for difficult Triple-A and AA games. From Metroid Dread to certain difficult settings in Resident Evil Village, it really does seem like more and more major studios are starting to explore the viability of at least adding optional difficulty modes to their major releases designed to make some of the year’s biggest games as punishing as possible....

Free-to-play games don’t gather that much attention unless they are backed by a huge company. Fortnite, for example, not only came from a big company, Epic, but they were also an early copycat of PUBG and the battle royale genre.
