Video games have the power to elevate horror stories to a level that books and films can’t, as they uniquely put players in the shoes of the protagonist. This powerful selling point has led to the horror genre being flooded with games over the years, many of which subsequently go under the radar....

For decades, players have found fun Easter eggs or pop culture references in their favorite video games. Activision-Blizzard’s MMORPG, World of Warcraft, has been around for nearly two decades and has since built up a large portfolio of these famous references. Armored Core V is the upcoming 14th game (not counting the four Japan-only mobile games) in the long-running Armored Core series. For the uninitiated, Armored Core is a series about giant customizable robots and fast-paced multiplayer action. With Armored Core V slated for release this spring, Namco Bandai has released a new gameplay video by Community Manager FilthieRich, taking fans on a walkthrough of the game’s multiplayer features. Unlike previous releases about the game mostly showcasing ACs and pretty explosions, this video takes an informational approach....

Even if the exact plot or fiction of Assassin’s Creed 3 is still a secret that Ubisoft has managed to keep, there are more than a few details that have slipped out ahead of an official announcement. We’ve already talked about the character details and gameplay changes that will be introduced with this title, but there’s more news for those who wish to know a bit more about the settings and new protagonist of Assassin’s Creed 3....

Avast ye scurvy dogs, the first wave of Black Flag add-ons are upon us. No sooner had Assassin’s Creed 4 set sail last month than Freedom Cry, an all-new adventure starring Edward Kenway’s first mate and former slave Adewale, was also announced. Now, a new multiplayer contingent looks to be entering the fray alongside it as part of the game’s all-in-one Season Pass option. Unearthed by the folks over at PS3Trophies, this so-called Blackbeard’s Wrath pack reportedly includes up to three additional online characters, the first of whom is none other than the fearsome pirate himself....

To say that Battlefield 4 had a troubled launch would be to put it mildly. Since the sequel’s debut in fall 2014, fans have been lambasting the franchise for its inability to iterate, its struggles to deliver a consistent online experience, and a general lack of polish. So much so, that many have sworn off the Battlefield franchise either for a short while or for good. The good news, though, is that Electronic Arts and BF developer DICE seem to know they did fans wrong....

Fans of the Borderlands series may be hotly anticipating the franchise’s leap to the next console generation in Borderlands 3, but Gearbox has come up with an alternative plan to keep their fans satisfied in the meantime: working with 2K Australia to craft Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, a game filling in the gaps between the first and second games in the series. Taking players to Pandora’s moon, Elpis, the lower gravity, continued tradition of over-the-top weaponry and the dependable cast of colorful characters has shown that Gearbox isn’t the only studio capable of capturing the brand’s unique sense of humor....

As part of their Bungie Day festivities this week, the former Halo developer unleashed a ton of new details regarding their upcoming shooter Destiny. Bungie confirmed three Collector’s Editions (two retail and one digital) for the game, showed off some new screenshots and gameplay trailers, and even answered some lingering fan questions. Additionally, Bungie confirmed the full timeline for Destiny’s upcoming beta test, which is slated to begin later this month....

Deus Ex: Human Revolution hasn’t been out for all that long and some substantial DLC is already on its way. The new content centers around a three-day period of time during the main game where protagonist Adam Jensen seemingly disappears. What happened to him? What went on? Well, ‘The Missing Link’ will allow players to discover exactly that. One of the most important things to note regarding ‘The Missing Link’ is that will enable players to re-spec Jensen, at least once....

The past few weeks have been somewhat underwhelming for fans of the Fallout series, who were teased of an imminent Fallout 4 announcement, but all for naught. Luckily, new script pages seem to confirm that Bethesda is in fact already casting for their next numbered installment in the post-apocalyptic series. A few leaked pages of both character descriptions and dialogue have appeared online, when compared with prior rumors surrounding Fallout 4 hint that the game will be set in Boston, Massachusetts (at least partly)....

Things are far from rosy in the Final Fantasy realm, what with the critical and commercial disappointments of recent mainline entries. Fortunately for fans of the brand, publisher Square Enix appears to be mounting something of a comeback. Where Final Fantasy 14 failed, A Realm Reborn overcame its early setbacks to score an unexpected success. Likewise FF13, which turned off many a-fan of the franchise, eventually spawned two improved sequels. Next, the Japanese giant delivered a much-loved update of Final Fantasy X (and X-2), arguably the second most important title in the series’ 3D history....

It’s become somewhat of a tradition that every major video game release is accompanied by a “season pass” upon its launch. These season passes provide avid followers of each respective title with future downloadable content, as well as a discounted price, and they’re traditionally comprised of new multiplayer maps or missions. That’s why it comes as no surprise to hear that Epic Games plans on offering consumers a similar package for its upcoming blockbuster Gears of War: Judgment....

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft launched in 2014 to rave reviews and went on to become one of the year’s biggest success stories, racking up a player base that is now north of 20 million. With the release of the game’s first expansion, Goblins vs. Gnomes, in December, Blizzard threw a wrench into the established meta and ensured that players would remain engaged with the title for the New Year. Now that active players have had a little time to digest GvG’s 140+ new cards, one of Hearthstone’s lead developers has let it be known what he thinks about the current state of the game, and may have also dropped a few hints for what to expect for the future....

When developer Kaos Studios first unveiled 2011’s Homefront, gamers were excited that the developer had hired a big name movie screenwriter, John Milius of Apocalypse Now and Red Dawn fame, to pen the game’s story. However, while Milius and Homefront successfuly created something fresh and different in the FPS space, the game suffered from a number of bugs that ultimately tanked its review scores. There was screen-tearing, character-ghosting and objects that hovered in mid-air for no reason....

The Guitar Hero community can be, at times, a bit masochistic. That’s sort of what happens when your game is over 15 years old–people keep clamoring for greater challenges until you wind up with something that’ll make any normal person’s fingers bleed. Take the Soulless line of songs from Guitar Hero community user ExileLord. These songs were created with the sole intent of providing professional Guitar Hero players with something that could challenge them far more than endlessly replaying DragonForce....

In case anybody was wondering whether Minecraft would find success on literally every platform it is available on, the answer is yes. Mojang’s juggernaut franchise has proved it is nigh on unstoppable, and has the impressive sales numbers to back up those claims. Minecraft’s latest commercial achievement concerns the game’s recent release on PS3, one of the last platforms that didn’t support the game. However, it wasn’t long before Minecraft for PS3 joined the rest of its brethren by hitting 1 million copies sold in a short amount of time....

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello claims his company has “the strongest brand portfolio in the game industry.” Activision Blizzard’s Bobby Kotick might contest that fact, but there is no question that where EA games are concerned, it is often not a matter of if but when a new installment in a successful franchise will come down the line – even when the game is question has yet to be fully revealed....

While Rayman Legends was one of the major centerpieces of Ubisoft’s Press Conference (or at least the portion that was focused on the Wii U), there were some questions as to whether this game would be an exclusive title for Nintendo’s new console. The unveiling of a new character whose gameplay relies solely on the use of the tablet controller gave the impression that the best way to play Rayman Legends would be using four Pro controllers and one tablet, but that isn’t necessarily the case....
