As one of the first games advertised as a “truly next-gen” experience, the expectations are high for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. After the series managed to gain a foothold in the mainstream conversation with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the developers at CD Projekt Red are doing everything in their power to take the franchise to bigger and better places. With a truly massive sprawling open world to navigate, an abundance of sidequests and morally grey decisions, RPG fans may have yet another game to keep them busy for months....

For most gamers, the top selling game of April 2015, Mortal Kombat X, largely defined their gaming experiences for that month. The title marked the new-gen debut of one of gaming’s most iconic fighting game franchises, and so it was no surprise to see MKX dominate the NPD sales charts for April. Now the NPD results for May are in, and while many games have held on from April, one notable title is absent....

Microsoft Studios announced Zoo Tycoon earlier this year during the Electronic Entertainment Expo, leaving both animal fans and nostalgic gamers eagerly awaiting a rush of digital animals for their consoles. Developer Frontier Developments has pawed around in the animal business before, crafting furry critters in Kinectimals and even creating a Rollercoaster Tycoon port for the original Xbox. Thanks to Capcom’s Resident Evil 4, fans got reintroduced to a more action-packed survival-horror experience. Unlike previous Resident Evil entries, RE4 and its sequel Resident Evil 5 allowed players to become more tactical and skillful with their zombie shootouts and takedowns. Moreover, these entries explored more interesting facets of the zombie viruses that plagued the series. After all, RE4 had Leon Kennedy explore a remote Spanish village with seemingly-“conscious” zombies. The original Final Fantasy VII was never a particularly difficult game. Every member of the party could carry themselves well, and Materia led to a depth of customization which ensured players could prepare for any scenario so long as they had the right items. It’s fair to say that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare might just be the most ambitious Call of Duty title in years. Sledgehammer Games has been granted the “freedom to fail” by publisher Activision, giving the developer the chance to be more creative with the first-person shooter franchise. The studio heads have described the development of the title as akin to the creation of 4 Hollywood movies, with a longer campaign promised alongside a co-op mode....

Considering Halo 4 is developer 343 Industries’ first retail release — albeit a highly anticipated one — it’s fair to say the project is easily their most ambitious.
