Xbox Live transformed online multiplayer gaming in the console space as we know it. Before it’s launch, Xbox players were playing large multiplayer games through System Link. Halo made it commonplace to see flickering CRTs lined up side by side with crowds playing Slayer matches for hours on end. These days it’s tough to imagine going back to the original Xbox, but it left a legacy of several great multiplayer classics among the many titles that deserve a comeback....

Last year, at The Game Awards 2020, BioWare treated its fanbase to an announcement that they most likely were not expecting for some time. Mass Effect was returning and not only that, but based on the teaser that was shown, it looks like the next project is going to continue after the Reaper War of the original trilogy. While this is no doubt the more popular decision based on the reception that Mass Effect: Andromeda received, it is potentially the more volatile given the arguably worse reaction that the original trilogy’s endings faced....

Being a huge open-world RPG set in a well-established universe, Cyberpunk 2077 is a deeply complex game with lots of systems, lore, and approaches to the game’s world, story, and side quests. Like all good RPGs that truly leave it up to the player, there’s no right or wrong way to play the game — but it is very easy to get lost in all the systems and options that are there....

The Final Fantasy franchise is one of the longest-running and most popular gaming series out there, with the very first game releasing in Japan back in 1987. In 2002, Grand Theft Auto: Vice CIty followed the hugely successful and genre defining Grand Theft Auto 3. It took the series back to the colorful neon lights of the 1980s, added a fully voiced protagonist and ultimately told a far more compelling tale in the crime series than its predecessors did. The gameplay remained in most part the same as in GTA 3, but it’s bright and colorful themes were in a stark contrast to the grimy crime-ridden streets of Liberty City....

The next few months may prove to be a good time for gamers, as early next year will see the releases of Cyberpunk 2077 and the first part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and big names like Borderlands 3 and Death Stranding drop this fall. In other words, it should prove to be an epic few months for the gaming industry, as there is a ton of games currently on the hype train....

Though developers have a certain amount of freedom when it comes to the creation of their game, when it comes to the pricing it’s usually the publisher that has the final say. For the next couple of days, though, it’s the developers who will get to determine the pricing for a large selection of their games in a sale that is being called ‘Because We May’ — inferring that these developers still received permission to offer discounts....

With the Spike 2011 Video Game Awards now just under a day away, we expect that most of the press releases concerning content that will be shown at this year’s awards ceremony will slow down and perhaps even stop altogether in anticipation of the event. But THQ decided to make one final announcement concerning a new teaser trailer for Darksiders 2. The focus of the teaser will be the new protagonist Death, but beyond that THQ has not offered any additional details regarding the teaser....

Despite a rough patch of early marketing, in which Bungie’s upcoming sci-fi shooter accidentally created a new meme, the well-received alpha and beta tests for Destiny have console gamers eagerly awaiting the game’s September 9 release. Following the worrisome news that the game might eat up to 40 GBs of hard drive space, Activision and Bungie are in full-on marketing mode for the launch. In addition to the Planet View app reveal and the increased number of TV spots, the team also released a live-action trailer that fits right in with the tone of Michael Bay-esque summer blockbusters....

When Bungie announced a series of hot fixes for Destiny that would remove the Crota’s End exploits many figured the party was over. With these new changes players would no longer be able to cheese specific portions of the raid, but more importantly they would not be able to solo the experience either. However, while those dreams of making it through Crota’s End without a team are dashed (for now), some players have discovered there are still ways to make it through sections alone....

Anime buffs may not have gotten any new content from Dragon Ball Super in a while, but the franchise continues to stay relevant today thanks to its massively loyal fandom. As of now, the latest event that Dragon Ball Super fans can anticipate is the upcoming “Battle of the Battles” special, which will commemorate the show’s all-time best fights in a definitive countdown. Back in December, Dragon Ball Super fans were tasked with determining the best showdowns to ever be featured on the show....

Nintendo’s Wii U has Mario Kart 8, Microsoft’s Xbox One has Forza Horizon 2 and now Sony’s PlayStation 4 has DriveClub. 2014 is the year of the platform exclusive racer and of the three, Driveclub is the least impressive offering, but still a very good game in its own right. Developed by Evolution Studios (MotorStorm), DriveClub is an arcade racer that sticks to the road rather than the off-road setting the developer previously dabbled in exclusively for PlayStation platforms....

There’s no denying that Grand Theft Auto V, while set in the same general area as GTA: San Andreas, looks a whole lot better than its predecessors. Trying to echo that point, one wily gamer has put together a comparison trailer that highlights many similar looking locales in San Andreas, and places them alongside their counterpart in the GTA V trailer. While the GTA V versions look stunning when compared to the blocky, and downright ugly, depictions in San Andreas, it’s still interesting to see how Rockstar Games pays homage to its past series....

With over two dozen games on their roster, including the hugely popular MMO World of Warcraft and the equally-as-successful free to play title, Starcraft 2, it’s almost hard to believe that Blizzard has gotten to their current heights by almost exclusively appealing to PC gamers (with the recent Diablo 3 port the exception). On PC, the free-to-play and MMO models have thrived for years, while consoles have only just begun to embrace the genres with the release of the PS4 and Xbox One....

If you were irked because Paper Mario: The Origami King didn’t feature a leveling up system, prepare to be even more upset. According to the game’s files, it looks as though it was supposed to. In a year that’s been quite barren in terms of Nintendo exclusives, The Origami King has been the biggest Nintendo Switch release from the company itself in quite some time. Sadly, though, it just didn’t quite have the impact it could have....
