Undead Labs was founded in 2009, in the thick of the resurgence of zombie craze films like Dawn of the Dead which helped breathe life back into the genre. While the studio’s sole focus on the niche market of zombie-related games might be a bit limiting, to pass up on their recent first release State of Decay would be a grave mistake. The open-world survival horror is a compelling yet interesting hybrid, borrowing elements of other entries into the genre while maintaining a unique style....

One of the best indie games to land last year was a little title called The Binding of Isaac, created by Team Meat’s Edmund McMillan. Drawing influence from the original Legend of Zelda, The Binding of Isaac is an adventure/RPG funapolooza that maintains both the challenge and comedy found in McMillan’s previous game, Super Meat Boy. The game is already a very long endeavor, with plenty of content in the initial product, and now there are plans to make the game even bigger with a new expansion called The Wrath of the Lamb....

Without a doubt, one of the most-requested features in The Sims 4 was for the developers to bring back family trees, which allowed players to track their family history and easily see charted relationships. It was a must-have for plenty of hardcore legacy players and casual fans alike, who all wanted to see their family history after several generations had passed. The studio confirmed the feature wouldn’t be in the base game months ago, but they just announced a new Sims 4 feature called Genealogy, which is actually just a retitled version of the family tree....

We’ll admit that when Tony Hawk first teased that a new skateboarding game was in development, we got excited. For as much as the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater brand had dropped off in later titles, the prospect of a next-gen Tony Hawk was intriguing. Unfortunately, what we had hoped the game would be, and what it actually was, were not one in the same. Instead, Hawk and Co. were busy at work on Tony Hawk’s Shred Session, a free-to-play mobile title in the vein of Temple Run or any number of endless runners out there....

Across the Fire Emblem franchise, few types of units have been as consistently amazing as wyvern riders and wyvern lords. If you’ve played through Deus Ex: Human Revolution, then you’ll no doubt recognize that the gameplay mechanics of Deus Ex: The Fall shown in this video and screenshots are almost all lifted from the main game (though some of the graphics are more on par with the original Deus Ex). You collect Praxis points to spend on augmentations, earn experience by killing or incapacitating enemies (or through other achievements within the level), use air vents to stealth your way around levels or tackle opponents head-on whilst making use of chest-high walls for cover, and use the hacking minigame to obtain access to locked areas and e-mails on people’s computers....

Social interaction has been vital to all of Blizzard’s games ever since online multiplayer became irreversibly tied with PC gaming. World of Warcraft took the social aspect one step further by creating the Armory, a profile keeping track of a player’s progress outside of the actual game. Now players would be able to keep track of their friends and brag about their gear without having to log on. Now, just a few months after launch, Diablo 3 character profiles have gone live, offering functionality very similar to the World of Warcraft Armory....

Fez has been a long time coming. As the past few years have gone by, indie game fans everywhere have been desperate to see Polytron’s final product, and in almost every imaginable way, the game lives up to the expectations. Fez is a natural evolution of the 2D era of gaming (before Mario brought platforming into the third dimension) - even though the environments are 3D, as players and the protagonist, Gomez, will quickly learn....

Forza Horizon throws off the shackles of circuit-based racing in favor of an open-world playground set entirely in Colorado. Players will race all over the Centennial State, barreling through cities and along dirt-covered roads in a selection of the most desirable - and beautifully rendered - cars imaginable. A new video documentary series takes players behind the scenes of the game and offers a look at some of the features that set Forza Horzion apart from the numbered Forza Motorsport titles, including night racers and courses littered with traffic....

It would be an understatement to say that the Forza brand hasn’t made the transition to the Xbox One that either Microsoft or Turn 10 Studios would have hoped for. After Forza Motorsport 5 delivered a visually stunning and technically impressive next-gen simulation racer - marred by microtransactions - the reputation of the series’ name falls to an unlikely candidate: Forza Horizon 2, the former newcomer viewed as a long shot prior to its own release....

The Simulator genre is officially out of control, and what’s gone from weird and obscure to hilariously funny (and fun), is quickly turning into annoying and “missing the point.” Sometimes Sim games truly set out to offer a realistic simulation experience, whether they be of flying a jet plane or completing mundane vehicular tasks (i.e. Street Cleaning Simulator and Farming Simulator) while others take something broken and/or ridiculous and focus on the fun factor like Surgeon Simulator and more recently, Goat Simulator....
