The Dragon Age franchise is in a comfortable position at the moment. Minecraft Dungeons innovated with the franchise in a lot of ways that fans weren’t expecting, and that was great to an extent; however, there were also things that the developers just didn’t get right from the original game. Mechanic such as building are not present in Minecraft Dungeons in any capacity, and that is unfortunate, because they made the series what it is. With the Call of Duty franchise begin to taper off from its banner years in 2010 and 2011, Activision is doubling down on pre-order efforts for the forthcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts. That isn’t to say Call of Duty is showing any signs of surrendering its top spot, just that the franchise isn’t showing the legs it once did, which makes day 1 sales all the more important. To help sweeten the pot for gamers, Activision has revealed a new pre-order bonus for GameStop that pays homage to the character that seemingly inspired the Call of Duty: Ghosts concept....

Remedy Entertainment, creators of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Quantum Break, announced its new game Monday evening during the PlayStation E3 2018 press conference. Control is an action-adventure title starring Jesse, a supernatural agent recently promoted to the position of Director, who must defend New York from an invading otherworldly threat. Control is planned to launch in 2019 across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The reveal trailer shows that Control takes place in a mysterious location known as The Oldest House....

Diablo. The series, which is synonymous with classic dungeon crawling adventure games, has reached the milestone of turning 15 years old. Technically, it’s 16 years old, but with the original Diablo having been released at the end of 1996, Blizzard decided to just round the number off. Blizzard has chosen to celebrate this historical moment in the life of its kill/loot/level RPG series by launching the Diablo 15 Year Anniversary website....

From the much loved classic Final Fantasy VII to the more recent Final Fantasy XIII, the series has garnered global attention since the 1980s making it all the more impressive that the role playing games have lasted so long, spanning so many console generations....

In August 2020, Epic Games made a significant change to Fortnite. To the joy of many players, Fortnite’s V-Bucks were permanently discounted, and it seemed there were no strings attached. However, it turns out there was a pretty big string attached, as this discount came about through Fortnite bypassing Apple and Google’s virtual storefronts and the price gates therein. Apple subsequently removed Fortnite from its app store, after which Epic filed a lawsuit, and the battle is still ongoing....

It’s doubtful anyone looks to Gears of War as the pinnacle of video game storytelling. The bombastic, brotastic third-person shooter has all the tropes of a classic “shoot first, ask questions never” ’80s B-action movie, and even Cliff Bleszinski has acknowledged yearning for a greater “Band of Brothers” vibe. But just how does it compare to the rest of the industry landscape? According to Dead Space story producer Chuck Beaver (Everything or Nothing, 007: Nightfire) - speaking in an official EA interview - Gears of War’s writing is ‘atrocious’ and represents the worst games have to offer....
