Capcom’s iconic Resident Evil is a franchise that needs no introduction. For many, it’s the very last word in shuffling zombie ’em ups (though some would dispute that), the grandpappy of survival horror as we know it today. Resident Evil 4, however, marked a huge paradigm shift for the series. This more dynamic, action-oriented, TPS style threw fans for a loop, but Capcom clearly made the right decision: Leon’s happy little adventure through rural Europe has gone on to be rated as one of the best games of all time....

The Pokemon franchise has had a loyal fan base for multiple decades at this point, and fans love to attach themselves to certain generations and/or Pokemon types. The Electric-type is rather popular despite not being attached to Starter Pokemon, and that could be largely thanks to Pikachu being a primary character in the anime. Kids couldn’t wait to get their hands on their own Pikachu or start the game with one in Pokemon Yellow....

Back in the ‘90s Street Fighter II set the world on fire and the tournament fighter was king. There were countless interpretations of the tournament fighter, from SNK’s Fatal Fury games to Rare’s Killer Instinct. However, none of them made as much of an impact as Midway’s Mortal Kombat. In our previous looks at some of the hardest games ever made for their respective consoles, we were ultimately just rounding up the usual suspects and trying to order them in a way that made sense. When it comes to the hardest Xbox games ever made, though, the process is a little bit…different. While there are some Xbox games that are infamously and indisputably difficult, many of the more notable games for Microsoft’s first console just didn’t emphasize overwhelming difficulty in the same way that some PlayStation 2 and GameCube games did....

Opinions on the Kinect are often a mixed bag. Many loathe the idea of motion controls in gaming because of the forced application of the mechanics. It is not hard to see where that stigma comes from - with the majority of Kinect-centric games are glorified tech-demos and implementation in more “hardcore” experiences tend to slow down gameplay and complicate actions. Nevertheless, Microsoft is hoping to drastically change opinions with the introduction of the Kinect 2....

While the launch of a new console may always be home to many unknowns, there seems to be one certainty for the PlayStation 4: their most loyal fans have inFAMOUS: Second Son to look forward to. The latest creation from Sucker Punch takes the series in a new direction, with a new hero, on a new platform. A risky move, but it quickly became clear from the start that the developers weren’t afraid of change - especially where the series’ superpowers were concerned....

If the past week has proved anything, it’s that the gamers really can affect change when they put their minds to it. First, Valve killed its paid mod program thanks to overwhelming pressure from the Skyrim community. Next, Silent Hill fans rallied after Konami cancelled Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming sequel. While Silent Hills hasn’t been revived yet, a petition on Change.org amassed well over 50,000 signatures - and the number’s still rising....

The upcoming LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham looks set to expand upon previous games in the series by broadening its horizons considerably. This comes in the form of an adventure that takes the Bat into space for his most monumental exploits yet — but also in the sheer amount of Batman content that has been packed into the game. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the character’s debut in an issue of ‘Detective Comics’ in 1939, and as such developers TT Games are doing their utmost to make sure as much of that history is represented in Beyond Gotham....

The parade of Mass Effect 3 screenshots continues, but you won’t hear us complaining. It seems like just today that BioWare unveiled the various pre-order weapons and armor that they’ve got in store, but we’ve already got a few new looks at the arsenal in action. More player choices are a good thing, and the weapons certainly look to add to the combat of Mass Effect 3 in interesting ways....

After a relatively mild 2014, Minecraft is poised to make a huge splash this year. Granted, we don’t what exactly developer Mojang, and new IP owner Microsoft, has planned for their fans, but we expect they have quite a few tricks up their sleeves. While early details on potential Minecraft expansions, tie-ins, and maybe even a sequel will likely surface during Microsoft’s E3 2015 conference, that will only be the beginning....

When it came to light that in order to have a complete Mortal Kombat X roster it’d be necessary to spend another 30 dollars on the Kombat Pack, many Mortal Kombat fans were livid. The fact that NetherRealm Studios began promoting the Kombat Pack’s DLC roster before the game was ever released only added to fuel to the fire. Since then, however, it’s become clear that NetherRealm Studios is treating their fans with the respect they deserve, as it’s released a myriad of patches coupled with free skins....

Though Resident Evil 5 might not have been the runaway success that RE 4 was it certainly brought a few important new features to the table, including co-op. Using the series’ new over-the-shoulder gunplay, cooperative play in Resident Evil 5 not only made scenarios more fun, it connected people. And now, with Resident Evil 6 confirmed for the end of this year, many are wondering how Capcom will take that cooperative play to the next level — whether they will allow more players or if they will include new modes....
