Open-world games have been a part of the medium for decades, but they have become significantly more prevalent in the past couple of generations due to the increased technological capabilities of modern consoles and computers. Since most gamers have played their share of open-world titles, many have noticed numerous elements of these games simply do not add up. As a result, several memes have been created that poke fun at all the nonsense players deal with in these massive open worlds....

Doom Eternal has blasted players away with how intense and thrilling its gameplay is. The Doom Slayer has never felt so powerful in a gamer’s control. With Assassin’s Creed ranking among the top intellectual properties of the gaming world, keeping fan hopes low for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 3 is almost an impossibility at this point. That being said, new images and game details are pointing toward major changes and improvements to Ubisoft’s existing formula. Within less than a day after the announcement/leaks every AC fan knew that the American Revolution would serve as backdrop to this game’s dose of espionage and conspiracy, but exactly how the historical period was going to be utilized has been unclear at best....

Batman: Arkham Knight has received a few incredibly impressive cinematic trailers so far, but up until tonight, gameplay footage was in short supply for the upcoming final chapter in RockSteady’s Batman series. That all changed this evening during the Sony E3 2014 presentation when audiences were treated to nearly five minutes of gameplay footage. The Arkham games have always been visually stunning, but the new-gen installment in the franchise really takes things to the next level....

People are still playing Bloodborne, which includes fighting through new game plus, discovering new secrets and (most likely) finding new bugs and glitches to make the game easier. From Software’s latest is a great game that the PS4 community has taken a liking too, to the point that it has sold over a million copies since launch. By now, the announcement of Call of Duty: Ghosts is all but a foregone conclusion. After box art and game details leaked last week, many thought the rumor stars were aligning, and Infinity Ward was finally stepping away from the Modern Warfare franchise, but those were just rumors. Now, Infinity Ward and Activision have taken it upon themselves to tease the next Call of Duty via their official site. And wouldn’t you know it, there’s a ‘Ghost’ image front and center....

Copyright law, as evidenced by the recent YouTube controversy, is sketchy at best. It throws into question who legitimately owns or holds the rights to content and in some cases, simply words. Going back a few years, Mojang (creators of Minecraft) riled up its supporters in publicly calling out Bethesda and ZeniMax for trying to protect the word “Scrolls” for their Elder Scrolls game series when Mojang was attempting to own every aspect of that word - Mojang of course didn’t tell their supporters that part and in the end ZeniMax protected their property and Mojang could still get their game title when they settled....

Developer Visceral Games made its name through the Dead Space series. The survival horror franchise wowed players from the off through tense, violent gameplay and a disturbing storyline of an alien infection and high-ranking corruption. The first game was released in 2008 through publisher EA, and had two sequels, the last of which arrived in 2013. After that, Visceral moved on to other projects. The developer has been busy with upcoming Battlefield spin-off Battlefield Hardline....

Over a week ago, Destiny developer Bungie promised that a significant update was in the pipeline for their FPS/MMO hybrid. They didn’t say too much at the time about said update, but did confirm that this one would finally improve many of the game’s unimpressive exotic weapons. Today, Destiny Update 1.1 has launched as promised, and we can confirm it’s a big one. Not only does the patch address issues like the aforementioned exotics, but it also adds new ways to acquire upgrade materials, removes a very popular Vault of Glass exploit, and even tweaked the way exotic upgrades worked as well....

The verdict on Dishonored is in: infusing the design inspirations of Victorian-Era London with first-rate gameplay and absorbing exploration, Arkane Studios and Bethesda have turned the city of Dunwall into a city we don’t want to leave. Fortunately, the feeling is mutual. Bethesda has announced plans today for three upcoming Dishonored DLC packs. The first, “Dunwall City Trials,” will be releasing this December and features a tenfold set of challenge maps, while the following two, both releasing in 2013, look to add unique singleplayer campaigns to the game....

Although Lord of the Rings: War in the North failed to strike a chord with fans that is not discouraging Warner Bros. Interactive from trying again. With the first of two Hobbit films releasing later this year it seems almost like a forgone conclusion that there would be some sort of tie-in game, and apparently Warner has already set a developer for that task. Monolith, developer of F.E.A.R. and more recently Gotham City Impostors, is rumored to be developing the game, currently titled The Hobbit: Part One....

Horde mode is back and it’s been upgraded into a bigger and better version which will likely leave Gears of War 3 fans salivating. We got a chance to check out the new and improved Horde 2.0 Gameplay at E3 2011, and it really impressed us with its gameplay additions. We didn’t need much convincing to get excited for Injustice: Gods Among Us, but the developers over at NetherRealm Studios aren’t letting that slow down their marketing. One of your most anticipated games of 2013, the selection of DC Comics’ most iconic heroes and villains getting ready to do battle in Injustice is growing by the day. Some characters synonymous with violence and hand-to-hand combat were no-brainers (Deathstroke the Terminator, for one), but the game won’t just be a test of who the deadliest hero or villain really is....

Update: it appears there is an indefinite extention on the “Sign In With Apple” feature, but it’s still for the best if you prepare for the worst. The ongoing legal battle between Epic Games and the Apple corporation isn’t looking like it will end anytime soon. With lawsuits and counter lawsuits being thrown around willy nilly, users that simply want to play Fortnite are going to be punished a heck of a lot before anything really sticks....

Anyone who’s spent a long time waiting for a specific game is sure to be pleased when that game finally “goes gold,” i.e. when development stops, and the game’s manufacturer starts cranking out physical copies. This event usually occurs a few weeks before the game’s established release date. Going gold means that the game exists somewhere out there in a final, playable state; it also means that delays are highly unlikely....

One rumored in-development game was surprisingly absent from this week’s EA Play online event. UFC 4, the licensed Ultimate Fighting Championship fighting game, was speculated by some as appearing. That proved to not be the case, however. A new leak hints that a UFC 4 announcement is still coming, though, reserved for a different event entirely. The official UFC Russia Instagram account recently posted an advertisement for the upcoming UFC 251 event....

Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham games are widely considered to be some of the best superhero video games ever made, and stand as excellent games in their own right. Like all video games, however, and indeed anything man-made, they are not perfect. There is nothing in these games that that should deter gamers from playing them, but there are some elements that are just plain annoying. They suffer from the same repetitive dialogue, bland fights, and badly aging graphics as any other game, but also hold some very Batman-specific issues....
