In an age where battle royale modes are dominating the multiplayer space, fans of smaller-scale matches are incredibly thankful to Call of Duty for still providing more haphazard, arcade-like action. While Warzone may be most of the conversation surrounding the series’ competitive offerings, modes like Gunfight and Face Off offer the opposite experience. The latter in particular is a new addition to 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The three on three action on minuscule maps makes for an entirely different Call of Duty experience, with hectic action more reminiscent of Timesplitters than the military shooter....

Despite what the name may tell you, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator isn’t exactly accurate, but that’s part of the gimmick. As it changed and evolved over the years with new patches and factions being added regularly, the game’s near slapstick comedy style in its approach to unit design and gameplay has endeared it to the community. Although the models made by the game’s developers, Landfall Games are still unique and have their own weird abilities, the content created by the community is where the real oddities lurk....

It’s become quite clear that the modern side of the Assassin’s Creed fiction may gets little attention in the series’ marketing, as the chance to relive iconic moments in history was always more attractive than the technology that made it possible. With Assassin’s Creed Unity, players will get a close look at the French Revolution. But according to Unity’s creative director, the game’s story will lead Arno Dorian through some key moments in history - he just won’t be personally responsible....

Fact: there will be a new Call of Duty this year. Activision has made it a mission to release an annual version of Call of Duty since Modern Warfare, so much so that they have brought on multiple development teams (among them Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games, and Raven Software) to get the job done. Arkane Studios, the developer behind stab-happy sleuthing title Dishonored has today unveiled the game’s fourth and final content patch. ‘The Brigmore Witches’ narrative pack is slated to arrive on August 13th worldwide, with European gamers set to receive the DLC a day later. Featuring an array of fresh weapons, imaginative gadgets and an all-new area to explore, ‘Brigmore’ looks set to see off this critically acclaimed saga in style. Following the tale told in ‘The Knife of Dunwall’ pack, ‘The Brigmore Witches’ returns players to the sneaking shoes of anti-hero assassin Daud....

While the title of this article may be a red flag for anti-gaming activists, it doesn’t dilute the fact that the latest Dishonored trailer is worth a watch. Titled “Creative Kills,” the trailer showcases how players can use some inventive methods to eliminate their enemies. Dishonored has a combat system that evokes memories of the atmospheric BioShock franchise, as the game’s main character wields plasmid-like abilities with his left hand. As highlighted in the above trailer, Arkane Studios’ promising title allows players to chain together these special abilities for some satisfying results....

Devil May Cry fans that have pined for the old school look of protagonist Dante since the unveiling of a much younger, punk rock-inspired iteration for DmC Devil May Cry have finally been presented with an answer. Just announced is a new DLC pack that features three costume packs for the game, including a Devil May Cry 3 era look for hero Dante. While the vanilla version of the game does offer a white haired, red-jacketed version of Dante that is only while the character’s ‘Devil Trigger’ is active....

Ubisoft shared a video on Twitter about their strides in accessibility within games and their goals to improve. The celebration of accessibility was immediately flooded with comments and retweets using #HoldUbisoftAccountable. This is because, only earlier this week, reports came out that, amidst revelations of Ubisoft’s workplace misconduct and abuse, that little had been done to rectify the issue. Claims were made from Ubisoft that it would teach mandatory anti-sexism training while also firing those involved....

First announced at E3 2013, Killer Instinct has become a staple of the Xbox One exclusive lineup - thanks to out-of-the-box thinking from developer Double Helix Games. Instead of a traditional retail release, the studio (along with publisher Microsoft) opted to position Killer Instinct as a quasi-free-to-play experience - where gamers can test-out one fighter each month, purchase their favorites characters a la carte, or order the full season roster all at once....

Over the weekend Mass Effect 3 players enjoyed Operation Shieldwall, another N7 Bounty event where the community was tasked with hitting the max level with character classes and promoting them into the single-player campaign as war assets. By doing three individually and 50,000 as a community, players would be rewarded with additional reinforcement packs. That packs couldn’t come at a better time since today the second set of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer DLC is officially out....

One of the most influential franchises in modern video game is history is joining the HD treatment movement, after years of rumors. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will provide fans with an updated rendition of of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (now available to those who don’t own a PSP!). If three games weren’t enough, the collection will be including the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 as well, just so fans can remember how far the series has come in both technology and slightly confusing storylines....

Many people were surprised (and some angered) when Microsoft announced their plans to purchase Mojang for $2.5 billion, the studio responsible for the incredibly popular Minecraft. Immediately concerns were raised over Microsoft’s long term plans for the property (and accusations that the Mojang team had “sold out”). In a second round of surprises, it was confirmed by Mojang that the reason for the deal was Markus “Notch” Persson - then CEO of Mojang - deciding he was ready to move on....

Disney has large and very specific plans for their latest major acquisition and nothing will get in the way of it. When the deal was announced that George Lucas had sold Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise, Disney made sure the world knew that the franchise would return with Episode 7 in 2015. Since that time, more and more elements of the Star Wars franchise that do not fit within the plans of building towards the return of the saga (Episodes 7-9 and a pair of standalone spin-off films) have seemingly been put on hold or outright canceled....

Elecronic Arts and BioWare are still tight-lipped when it comes to the release date of what may be their most important title, but that doesn’t mean they can’t dish out other juicy details. Star Wars: The Old Republic is making heads turn with its sheer number of beta participants, and we had our own chance to go hands-on with the game at E3. BioWare has been very open with the inclusion same-sex relationships in their latest games. The original Mass Effect allowed for a relationship between female Sheppard and Liara T’Soni, whereas both of the Dragon Age games also included the option. That trend will once again continue with Star Wars: The Old Republic. BioWare’s upcoming, eagerly anticipated monster (rancor?) MMO will offer players the ability to partake in same-sex relationships, albeit after launch....

With so many MMOs in existence today, some of them premium a lot of them free-to-play, The Elder Scrolls Online will undoubtedly have to do some pretty unique things to catch gamers’ eyes. Sure, setting an MMO in the universe of The Elder Scrolls is a dream come true, but it’s in the mechanics that players will need to find a reason to commit the time required of an MMO....

After nearly two years of teases, gameplay tweaks, and how-to videos, The Elder Scrolls Online finally has a release date. ZeniMax Online’s MMO will hit the PC and Mac on April 4, 2014. Alongside the release date announcement, ZeniMax also dropped a new trailer, which focuses on The Elder Scrolls Online’s PvP element. In the trailer (seen above), gamers will be able to see just how massive player-on-player battles can get in the world of Cyrodil....

If you were waiting to see what Fumito Ueda’s next masterpiece of gaming was going to look like this year at Tokyo Game Show 2011, you’re going to be disappointed. The Last Guardian will be woefully absent from the trade show this year. Fear not, that doesn’t mean the game will never see the light of day, Ueda-san and Team Ico are working hard to ensure it will probably make us all cry and once again, challenge our notions of video game art....
