Between TV, films, and video games, it seems like every new entry into a particular medium is trying to be the next big franchise. With the likes of Assassin’s Creed, The Legend of Zelda, or Halo not looking to slow down any time soon, it makes it all the harder to bear when our favorite games don’t get the same love and attention. While many games will get a sequel or spin-off at some point, there are plenty of games out there that, as much as players want to see them, will never get a sequel in the future, either due to dwindling interest in the original game or from the original developers having shut down since the release of their title....

Several great gaming franchises seemed to do well on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but, for some reason, they never saw a new title release on the current generation of consoles. At most, we got a remaster or re-release for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, such as the recently announced Saints Row: The Third Remastered, but never an actual sequel. With any luck, some of these franchises will return for the release of Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X that are both due to launch later this year....

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of 2020’s biggest surprises, mainly due to the fact that it was so highly anticipated but its fan reception has been mixed at best. It’s not that Cyberpunk 2077 is terrible, it’s just that the game is so littered with bugs and glitches that it is often unplayable. This is such a shame, however, because Cyberpunk 2077 actually has a compelling story beneath the lavish exterior. Not only does it have a great main campaign storyline, but the game is also filled with a ton of hidden plotlines only those who dig enough will have the pleasure of discovering....

Animal Crossing has celebrated its’ 20th anniversary this year and in that time it has introduced players to a lot of characters. Some have captured fans’ hearts, like Marshal and Celeste. Others have become slight nightmare fuel, like Zipper T. Bunny. Overall, fans of the franchise both new and old all have their own favorite characters to interact with. One of the unique aspects of Animal Crossing is that players can dig up fossils and take them to their museum where the ever-entertaining Blathers will be waiting....

Reiterating on a classic franchise is tough. How does one remind fans of everything they loved about a particular property while simultaneously making it feel fresh? Whatever the answer is, Doom Eternal has it in spades. The game is filled with the familiar demon-slaying bliss for which the series is known, while making subtle changes to the formula that turn the adventure into a whole new experience. This does not only account for the gameplay, however; plot points change what people thought they knew about the franchise’s lore....

Rarely has such a simple game been so effectively terrifying and anxiety-inducing as Scott Cawthon’s indie hit, Five Nights At Freddy’s. First released in 2014, it didn’t take long for this unique, survival-horror game to gain cult-classic status. Inspiring countless Youtube channels dedicated to both the gameplay and lore, various sequels, and a movie in the works, FNAF shows little signs of slowing down. Taking the player into the world of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, it is up to a lone security guard to keep the monstrous animatronics inside of the restaurant....

With E3 not happening this year, new games have been announced throughout the summer, with most of the announcements in preparation for the upcoming generation of console gaming. But don’t worry, PC fans, there was plenty to see and lots to look forward to thanks to some big announcements over the last few months. Call of Duty is an incredibly notable series. A rich history and stunning visuals, it’s hard to notice some of it’s problems. Shooting, stabbing, and otherwise causing harm against terrorists leaves this series as a violent escape for those seeking it. But for those seeking a good story, Call Of Duty can alienate some of its fans. With inconsistent qualities of writing and common game mechanics that take players out of the immersion, plot holes come in many forms....

Monster Hunter Rise is the sixth and the latest installment of the revered Monster Hunter series. Fans of the franchise who own a Nintendo Switch will absolutely find this title delightful. Not only does this game offer the incredible RPG elements and interactivity this franchise is known for, but now they have the chance to play the game on the go. Kingdom Hearts is a great game series for fan tattoos. The game features so many symbols and icons from keyblades to paopu fruit and sea salt ice cream. It is a game series that is easy to love for its charming characters, beautiful soundtrack, and unique crossover story between Square Enix and Disney. With its first game having been released in 2002, the game also has a nostalgic factor despite its latest game (Kingdom Hearts Dark Road) coming out this year....

The fate of the apocalyptic United States lay in the hands of a jaded smuggler and a teenage girl who may be the key to saving the world. The Last of Us first came out in 2013 and quickly surged in popularity. It not only has excellent graphics, but the writers weave a gruelingly emotional story that makes it nearly impossible not to become attached to the characters. The highly anticipated sequel finally debuted in the summer of 2020....

Let’s be real here: one of the most fascinating aspects of The Sims is seeing how you can dispose of them in the most gloriously grotesque and imaginative ways possible. Ever since Maxis and Electronic Arts gave us The Sims back in 2000, we’ve been finding increasingly clever ways of disposing of our digital personas. We all know the big ones, like letting them drown in the swimming pool or setting fire to the house....

Television shows have always been a no-brainer when it comes to game development: if the show is popular, most likely the game will be as well. Numerous beloved TV shows were adapted into NES games including cartoons (Ducktales, Darkwing Duck), game shows (Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune), and even live action dramas (Knight Rider, Mission Impossible). However, Nintendo also released some TV-based games that were somewhat more perplexing choices. World of Warcraft is about to turn 15 and over the years the game has evolved and changed dramatically. The release of World of Warcraft Classic in August gives new and old players alike a chance to experience the original game all over again. With Classic currently in beta, players are being asked to report any bugs they find. There’s just one issue… some of those bugs are actually features of the original game....

In our review of Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls we praise the game for a lot of things — ultimately giving the game a score of 4.5 out of 5 — but where the title really shines is its story. Filled with nuance, complexity, and a lot of mature ideas, the story in Beyond: Two Souls deserves recognition for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, the story in Beyond: Two Souls, like its predecessor Heavy Rain, is shaped by the player, who must make some tough and life-changing decisions for its protagonist Jodie Holmes....

Proving that no gameplay or story hint is too small to go overlooked by internet sleuths, the official Call of Duty website has yet again been examined for more than obvious clues. Among the results is an embedded section of Morse Code confirming that the next release is, in fact, Black Ops 2. But given the recent reveals and continuing cryptic language, exactly what the game will turn out to be is still up in the air....
