Gamers hold the Nintendo 64 in high regard as the most nostalgic console for many reasons. This amazing and groundbreaking system was part of the console generation that introduced the world to cutting-edge (at the time) 3D graphics, which meant fully three-dimensional control, and that sort of freedom came with many ambitious developers who wanted to take the Nintendo 64 to its maximum potential. Many succeeded, but some weren’t so lucky....

The PlayStation burst onto the scene in the early 2000s, not just because it was one of the first successful consoles to pack its games on discs, but because it featured a rather impressive lineup and library of games. Prior to its arrival, gamers had come to expect a certain style and type of title thanks to Nintendo’s dominance of the console war. Stardew Valley has been around for a while now but fans are still coming up with hilarious new memes. Pelican Town is full of life, mysteries, and charming people to get to know. Everyone has their own quirks and a unique personality… even George. Stardew Valley’s community is very passionate about the game and still very active. Although the game came out in early 2016, Eric Barone, also known as ConcernedApe, still works incredibly hard to release free updates so that the fans can keep enjoying the game....

Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night, is the triumphant return of Koji Igarashi, who had a large hand in creating some of the most well-loved Castlevania games in the franchise, mainly known for Symphony Of The Night and Aria Of Sorrow. The games are innovative for the series, introducing elements of the RPG genre to the action-adventure/horror platforming gameplay seen in the earlier entries. Bloodstained makes a number of changes to the format that Igarashi established, even if a lot of those are things like improved graphics and a different story....

Thanks to the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, seasoned gamers got to relive the platforming bliss that is Super Mario 64, while younger gamers are experiencing the magic for the first time. Despite showing its age in some areas, Mario’s 3D debut has largely managed to hold up thanks to some majestic landscapes, solid controls, and generally exhilarating gameplay. To many, it’s still one of the best Mario platformers ever....

Age of Empires has been a popular real-time strategy series for many years now, and the nostalgia of the aged titles certainly has an alluring factor for plenty of veteran gamers. The team behind Age of Empires 2 had their studio shut down years ago, but Counter-Strike: Global Offensive creator Hidden Path Entertainment has picked up the reins to create an exciting and faithful HD remake of Age of Empires 2....

Nothing helps set the stage for an Assassin’s Creed game like a widespread revolt against an unjust, corrupt oppressor. And for Assassin’s Creed Unity, Ubisoft is turning to a historical uprising of particular importance to the French publisher. With an adventure resting on the shoulders of Arno Dorian, promising to explore never-before-seen aspects of the French Revolution, the latest gameplay trailer confirms that the French people’s thirst for democracy will be fitting in quite well with the historical fiction of previous games....

Ubisoft may have come under fire at E3 2014 for the lack of a playable female presence in Assassin’s Creed Unity, but there’s no denying that there is plenty to be excited about for the stealth action franchise’s first fully new-gen installment. The introduction of co-op campaigns and the stunning footage of 18th century Paris both have many fans (including the Game Rant crew) eagerly awaiting the October 28 release date....

While DICE claims they have improved the singleplayer experience for Battlefield 4, everyone knows that the multiplayer is the most integral part of the franchise. It’s been that way since the series’ inception, and only continues to be true today. With that in mind, Electronic Arts has released a new trailer for Battlefield 4 that is all about the multiplayer. It’s not as detailed or as involved as previous multiplayer trailers, mind you, but gives players a solid overview of what’s in store for them come October....

Though Gearbox Software is ramping up Borderlands 2 DLC support with the release of the Mechromancer class earlier today, they still have yet to address some of the game’s more problematic issues. Several weeks ago we delivered the news that certain Borderlands 2 players were experiencing a full Badass Rank reset and were losing many of their hard-earned golden keys. While the Mechromancer DLC doesn’t seem to be creating any issues, the associated compatibility patch released with the class appears to be causing more than a few problems....

It seems like no matter what Bungie may do to try to get Destiny players excited for the future of their shooter, they typically find that they can’t please them all. While some are still extremely excited for the launch of the House of Wolves DLC expansion, for example, others derided the lack of a new raid. On a similar note, Bungie has come under fire this week after teasing their new social space, The Reef, via a brief trailer....

The choices made so far in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake have been controversial at times, surprising at others, and a breath of fresh air for many fans of the original. Characters and organizations like the members of Barret’s terrorist group AVALANCHE are expanded on in more detail than was previously available in the amount of time that the opening Midgar section had available. One of these changes, however, involves a connection between Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 10 that originally appeared in the latter title, but has since been basically confirmed to be canon by Square Enix....

One of 2012’s most anticipated games, the Mass Effect 3 launch got off to a bumpy start with a few discouraging glitches and, more famously, an underwhelming (and arguably incomplete) set of endings. However, after BioWare refocused their post-launch efforts into a successful release of the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC, most of the controversy seemed to have passed - allowing the team to lock back into their planned DLC schedule....

Coming out of E3 2014 there were so many games that caught our eye. The Order: 1886, Super Smash Bros., and Far Cry 4 were clear favorites, but that’s just a small smattering of what was on tap for this year’s event. One theme that seemed to carry throughout the whole of the show was co-op — be it the cooper-petitive shooter Evolve or the new multi-Assassin approach in Assassin’s Creed Unity....
