While it’s certainly not Resident Evil 6 or stylized at all like RE 4 & 5, we can’t but help finding ourselves very excited for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City - it’s one of our most anticipated games of 2012. Capcom has taken what sells best for the franchise - the action - and made a series spin-off of sorts to cater Resident Evil to that audience. Operation Raccoon City focuses on third-person multiplayer gameplay, with a campaign that offers four-player co-op throughout, and what we now can confirm is multiple team-based competitive multiplayer modes… with a twist....

It’s Star Wars Day, May the 4th, and while gamers are still reeling from the loss of LucasArts, some gamers are looking back on the legacy of beloved Star Wars IPs. It also happens to be free Comic Book Day, but that’s just a happy coincidence. Speaking of Star Wars, a livestream took place earlier today, which featured pre-Alpha footage of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 — the long-in-development-but-eventually-cancelled title from Free Radical Design....

In keeping with the spirit of Sunset Overdrive, which doesn’t waste a beat getting going, let us toss any lengthy preambles aside. Developer Insomniac Games has been around for two decades, and therefore they too do not need any quick bios or rundown of their classic titles (of which there are quite of few). All Xbox One owners need to know at this point is that Sunset Overdrive is THE fall exclusive for Microsoft’s platform and while there are flaws in its DNA, it is well worth the price tag....

With true MMOs, the ones sharing massive persistent open-worlds on big megaservers, being so large and so full of content it can be difficult to get them right for a modern audience of gamers. When the developers behind them must bring said game to not just PCs but a range of new, next-gen consoles as well, it can be that much more problematic. For that very reason, publisher Bethesda is fighting an uphill battle with their game The Elder Scrolls Online, struggling to keep the subscription-required game together amidst fans’ high hopes and expectations for a title in the ever popular Elder Scrolls series....

It looks as though life in the online Tamriel has gotten off to a rather decent start. Of course, like any good MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online has suffered its share of opening day jitters, niggles and NPCs going AWOL - but on the whole, Bethesda’s would-be Warcraft isn’t doing half bad. Following its countless, varied and pleading attempts to convince players of the game’s old-school subscription plan, the folks at ZeniMax Online Studios must now be sitting rather pretty....

The Halo franchise is one of the largest science fiction universes out there. Hundreds of external material and multiple games have expanded Halo’s humble beginnings into a massive name for Microsoft and the Xbox. Multiplayer gaming and common FPS tropes such as two-weapon limits and regenerating health can find their roots within Halo: Combat Evolved. It took a significant amount of work for the franchise to reach this point, though. Whether it was Halo 2’s nightmarish crunch or canceled projects, this franchise has had its fair share of behind-the-scenes stories to tell....

When How I Met Your Mother came to a final close in 2014, it’s fair to say opinion was divided on the ultimate resolution to Ted Mosby’s nine year, epic romance. Some viewers felt a tad cheated that creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas pulled what was seen as a “cop out” ending. Personally, I didn’t hate the final episode but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be on this list either....

Steampunk, a genre quickly surpassed by its sibling genre, cyberpunk, is an undeniably fantastic setting for game worlds, somehow attracting more game developers into its ranks than it does any other form of art. While the majority of steampunk games seem to be in the stealth genre, stemming from the early Thief games, RPGs seem to be a close second in terms of visual style. Something about the retrofuturistic grit and grime makes the perfect art direction for studios who want a departure from more common motifs, often paired with fantasy imagery for optimal conceptual contrast....

While little information available about what Sony and Microsoft have up their sleeves for the next generation, it is clearly inching ever closer with each passing day. A select few games have already been confirmed for them, the most notable of which is Halo: Infinite. Microsoft’s Project Scarlett is slated for a holiday 2020 release. Sony has yet to divulge a release window, but it can’t be too far behind or ahead....

The PlayStation was home to some of the most memorable Japanese RPGs of all time. Thanks to the popularity of Final Fantasy VII gamers at the time were craving more games in the genre to play. As a result, the floodgates opened for more developers willing to take a chance by translating and releasing their own JRPGs in the west. This was great news for fans of the genre as they got try other games that took them on grand adventures in other imaginative games that weren’t a numbered Final Fantasy....

The influence that the review aggregator Metacritic has on the gaming industry is increasing every year. Many gamers use the site as their go-to source of feedback on a game, and high or low scores have made and broken not just individual games, but entire development and publishing companies. Suffice to say, receiving a sub-50 score from the site can be a devastating blow. It should go without saying, but just because a game receives a low review score, doesn’t mean there isn’t fun to be had....

Despite one or two issues with the narrative in Metal Gear Solid V and the travesty that was Metal Gear Survive, demand for a new Metal Gear game remains high. Unfortunately, however, it’s a little difficult to see how exactly this would work now that Hideo Kojima is no longer working at Konami. Some have suggested that a reboot may be in order and while this would definitely help to revitalize the franchise, whether or not Konami is the best company to take on such a monumental task is a matter for debate....

The quirky and highly unusual Bugsnax made its premiere on November 12th, 2020. The game was developed by a company called Young Horses who drew inspiration from a myriad of different, popular games to create one mega game that included elements that gamers would likely be familiar with… along with a whole new twist in the form of strange bug-food hybrids and a group of people called Grumps. With a pop-y, upbeat theme song, slightly creepy food and bug mashups that Pokémon gamers have prepared their entire lives to catch, and a bit of modern ingenuity, this game has made quite a name for itself since it’s been available....

The Pokémon series has been running strong for decades now and it’s practically a foregone conclusion that the next game that’s released, whether it’s in the mainline series or some more ambitious spin-off entry, will be a best-seller for Nintendo. The core concept of the Pokémon games remains unchanged, but each new entry manages to advance the formula. The Kalos region from Generation VI marks an important point for Pokémon and it contains the introduction of many new creatures, some of which have become audience favorites and others that struggle to stand out amongst their more creative brethren....

The PS5’s Demon’s Souls remake is out and reviews have been nothing short of amazing. Comparisons to the original game have already come out and Bluepoint Games has taken the liberty of making a few changes to make the title better. So far, no new story elements have been added, but with a broken Archstone still in the game, there is a possibility of DLC. For now, the changes have all been about enhancing gameplay in ways that the PS3 version couldn’t....

Without a doubt, E3 is always the biggest gaming event of the year. It’s at E3 when many games are revealed to the world for the first time, and it’s also when game publishers offer more extensive looks at the biggest upcoming games that are already announced. This year’s E3 has potential to be one of the best yet, as it will feature many high profile games that all have potential to be award-winning, critically-acclaimed releases that fans have been waiting years to see....

As a game series aimed at mature audiences, The Witcher has a history of disturbing events and quests, either overt or disturbing in their implications. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is no different. Geralt travels the continent in search of Ciri, and along the way gets caught up in events that best belong in stories or nightmares. The rich folklore The Witcher franchise borrows from provides a wealth of inspiration and opportunity for unique storytelling....

Even though Game Freak’s franchise combines various ingredients that are readily found in many other titles, there is nothing quite like a mainline Pokémon game. The inherent joy of building a team capable of topping a region’s Gym Leaders and Elite Four while seeking to complete the Pokédex have kept the license relevant for multiple decades, and Pokémon Sword & Shield maintains that thrill splendidly. Putting aside a couple of spin-offs and remakes, Pokémon Sword & Shield marked the first mainline entry to debut on a home console, with it being released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch....

For over two decades, the Resident Evil franchise has been synonymous with survival horror. If there were any feelings that you experienced, it would be fear and terror. However, even something as scary as Resident Evil can have its moments of hilarity. The situation of a zombie apocalypse is, in and of itself, insane, so it isn’t out of the norm for there to be moments that are funny or just downright hard to believe could happen in real life....

Zombies are back once again in the new Call of Duty game, Black Ops: Cold War. So far, there’s only one map playable, Die Maschine, but there’s a lot of content to unearth within it while players wait for the next one. Some of this stuff is so obtuse that people new to the franchise might not ever find out about them on their own. So, to help bridge that gap, we’ve made a list of some of the neat little mechanics in Zombies....
