Sports Interactive and Sega released their latest entry in the Football Manager franchise last year to a warm reception. The management simulator has become one of the series’ highest-rated games on review aggregator Metacritic with a score of 85, which made it the fourth highest-rated sports game on the site in 2020. Football Manager 21 was predominantly praised for its influx of new features. Whereas most new sporting titles are criticized for being glorified roster updates, the latest entry in the Football Manager series brought multiple new mechanics to the table while simultaneously improving some of its predecessor’s shortcomings....

The battle for the crown of modern military FPS is once again about to be waged as Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 ready up their campaigns to pry gamers from their money. This is one of the most interesting match ups so far as previously, it was EA’s Battlefield franchise trying to keep pace with the behemoth Call of Duty. This year is a different picture though. Call of Duty’s sales are (slightly) on the wane and if polls are to be believed, it seems that Battlefield is the franchise that an increasing amount of gamers are flocking to....

Battlefield Hardline may have the stigma of Battlefield 4’s faults hanging over it, but it’s still one of the most anticipated releases of 2015 regardless. With a new developer (Visceral Games) on the case and a new approach to the combat, curiosity for Hardline also seems to be at an all-time high. For PC shooter fans especially, Battlefield Hardline looks to be a must-buy, if only because few games actually target that market without making concessions for console....

Mass Effect 3 is set to release early next year and as we already know, it’s going to be bigger than its predecessors. Just how big, you ask? So big that there are a total of five composers working on the game’s score. Players can expect to hear the sounds of composer Clint Mansell - most recently known for Black Swan - in Mass Effect 3, but he will also be joined by many veteran Mass Effect composers, such as Christopher Lennertz, Cris Velasco, Sam Hulick (who also composed the exceptional soundtrack to Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad) and Sascha Dikiciyan....

After earning a spot on our 25 Most Anticipated Games of 2012 list, news on Borderlands 2 has been surprisingly scarce so far this year. At end of 2011 gamers enjoyed a flurry of exciting details - teasing what to expect from Gearbox Software’s next trip to Pandora: In-depth skill tree progression, less repetitive gameplay, and enemies that literally drop from space, to name a few. However, Gearbox has been especially tight-lipped lately - possibly because they were prepping the following announcement: Borderlands 2 will arrive on store shelves on September 18, 2012 (September 21, 2012 for international markets)....

It appears that, in Call of Duty: Ghosts’ case, when it rains it pours, as more leaks have continued to surface from Infinity Ward’s highly anticipated game. Over the weekend, a whole plethora of details made their way online — including the game’s full multiplayer map list and a start screen for the Extinction mode — and today we have a partial weapon list for the game. With this iteration being set in the future — not the far-flung future like Black Ops 2, just a “near future” — most of the Call of Duty: Ghosts arsenal will not be familiar to the casual FPS gamer....

It’s no small secret that developer Ninja Theory has made more enemies than friends with their drastic redesign of hero Dante for their Devil May Cry prequel, DmC. But, if the developer could show the loyal Devil May Cry fans that,by blending their design sensibilities with Capcom’s franchise, they could make a compelling and thought provoking experience, then they might win over some naysayers. To help show that there is still some of the Dante gamers know and love beneath this skinnier, dark haired kid, Ninja Theory has released a short gameplay trailer for DmC that shows Dante being Dante, and even rocking the white hair and bright red coat....

While it might belie Far Cry 3’s more predominant themes of isolation and insanity, co-op looks to be receiving a significant part of Ubisoft Montreal’s development attention when the game releases this December. (It could even be the culprit behind its late-announced delay). We detailed co-op extensively when it was announced and demoed at E3 2012, and today Ubisoft released a plethora of new details highlighting the mode’s standalone storyline and unique cast of characters....

Far Cry 3, Ubisoft’s forthcoming descent into insanity (in video game form) has been quietly delayed into early December. While the game was originally set to release in only a few short months, on September 9th, apparently Ubisoft needed a little more time to fine-tune and perfect. Now the game will be releasing on December 4th in the US and on November 30th in Europe. It’s a significant wait when looking at the previous release date, but at least the game wasn’t delayed into 2013 like a whole slew of games....

For years, gamers have been vehemently discussing the state of PC gaming, voicing fears of its “death”. However, one look at Valve’s contributions to the industry or the current state of online modding communities would say otherwise. The platform is a hotbed for gaming excitement. This would explain why the fight for a PC release of Grand Theft Auto 5 rages ever onward. Luckily for those who have been eagerly anticipating news regarding a potential release, two pieces of newly-leaked information make a PC release of Grand Theft Auto 5 seem that much closer to reality....

NetherRealm Studios’ latest fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us tells the story of fan-favorite DC characters locked in a civil war where the lines between heroes and villains blur in a battle that will determine the fate of the Earth. However, that’s not the only reason that gamers are going to boot-up the latest fighting game from the developers of Mortal Kombat - as players will no doubt be dead-set on collecting in-game achievements/trophies (in addition to beating competitors to a pulp online)....

The Holiday season traditionally brings with it a surreal number of back-to-back blockbuster releases within the gaming industry, and one major PlayStation exclusive hitting within that consumer-friendly window is LittleBigPlanet 3. While October is already jam-packed with new releases, Sony confirmed that Sackboy and his newfound group of plush-tastic friends will be returning to the spotlight later this November. Taking to PlayStation.Blog, the console manufacturer announced that both PS3 and PS4 owners would be able to pick up LittleBigPlanet 3 on November 18, 2014....

Ubisoft is gearing up for the long-overdue return of the Rainbow Six series, a franchise that’s drastically evolved over the years from a super-tactical, planning-first style of shooter to an all out Hollywood blockbuster action FPS. For the next iteration, Ubisoft has faced major challenges in choosing what direction to go in for the Tom Clancy series and ended up scrapping the project, previously titled Rainbow 6: Patriots, before going back to the drawing board....

The heyday of peripheral-focused music games has come and gone, but their spirit lives on in Rock Band Blitz, Harmonix’s new game for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. You won’t need anything more that a standard controller to play the game, and you won’t have to wait long, either. Rock Band Blitz brings the hits on August 28, 2012, and it’ll only set you back $14.99/1200 MS Points – a killer deal since the game’s 20+ new tracks are also playable in Rock Band 3....

No thanks to LucasArts and their new owners at Disney, we’ve slowly been learning through leaks more and more about the Star Wars game that may never be: Star Wars: First Assault. We first discovered the downloadable shooter last summer and since, Disney has put a lid on any marketing efforts for the game that was originally intended for release this spring. Reports indicate Disney has put a halt to hirings at LucasArts and we now wonder whether or not Star Wars: First Assault - allegedly a precursor to Battlefront 3 - is being saved for upcoming events, possible E3, or whether it’s being canned entirely....

Xbox Live’s Summer of Arcade is here, with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD leading the charge. The developers at Robomodo haven’t just increased the graphical polish of the original game, but rebuilt skaters and stages from the first two entries in the series in a brand new engine. Can the new horsepower make decade-old gameplay worth another visit, or does Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD ultimately fail to achieve the trip down memory lane it’s attempting?...

Much like Uncharted 3 is adopting the much maligned online pass, so is the highly anticipated Sony exclusive supporting another common add-on in gaming: the DLC pass. Their version of the pass, called the Fortune Hunters Club, retails for $24.99 and entitles purchasers to four multiplayer map packs and three character skin packs, which should start rolling out later next month. On top of that Fortune Hunters Club members will also gain instant access to the Club’s exclusive Uncharted 3 XMB theme at launch, so they can chat about the 45% savings they are earning....

In turn, it’s up to the player to ensure that their protagonists live through hell to resolve their living nightmares. Essentially, some of the greatest horror games feature not just excellent storytelling but also compelling worldbuilding. Unfortunately, some horror games do fall flat on the story and lore department....
