After logging some 25+ hours with Dead Island: Riptide, one thing becomes abundantly clear: this game is more expansion than it is sequel. Instead of a trip back to the drawing board, developer Techland seems to have just kept on working, delivering similar content within the same framework. As a result, reviewing Dead Island: Riptide becomes more of a challenge than it should be, because most of the criticisms that can be raised at the original Dead Island (check out our review of that game) apply almost in cut-and-paste fashion with Riptide....
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has some large shoes to fill as the follow-up to the warmly received Human Revolution. However, its developers, Eidos Montreal, are pulling out all the stops to make sure they produce a worthy sequel — and that includes an attempt to address one of the biggest problems fans had with its predecessor. A brand new teaser trailer for Quantum Error has landed, and it doesn’t really tell us much about the game - yay! But it sure looks cool, and is of particular interest to anyone fortunate enough to have the name Jacob. Quantum Error is an upcoming sci-fi horror - or “cosmic horror,” as the devs call it - currently in development by TeamKill Media. From what we know and have seen so far, it’s got some serious Doom and Dead Space vibes to it, and this new trailer feels particularly Doom-y....
Have you been following Deathloop? It’s an upcoming Arkane game where a man is trapped in a timeloop and has to escape by killing eight targets in a single day. Whenever he fails, he wakes up on the beach of fictional island Blackreef and has to start again, a perpetual hangover grinding away at his skull. The man in question is called Colt Vahn, and he’s witty, charming, and as smooth as a baby seal covered in vaseline....
The scope of Hello Games’ upcoming open world sci-fi title No Man’s Sky is difficult to fully express, since gamers are used to “open world” meaning a map that you can run or drive across within about half an hour. No Man’s Sky is a little more ambitious than that; it’s an “open galaxy” game filled with so many worlds that it would take a player about 585 billion years to visit every single one, even if they only dropped into each planet for a second....
The blockbuster James Bond franchise turns 50 this year, and to celebrate Activision plans on releasing a momentous video game compilation filled with memorable scenarios from prominent Bond movies. 007 Legends is the game in question, but Acti is taking its sweet time revealing which iconic films will be available to play through in the title. So far it’s known that Skyfall and Moonraker will both be featured prominently in Legends, and they’re now being joined by 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service....
Cyberpunk 2077 has been rocky at best and a buggy mess at worst, with a rollout of patches already planned for the next few months to address fans’ major concerns. With CD Projekt Red offering refunds for console players who are upset by the state of the game for the PS4 and Xbox One at launch, it seems like the game missed the mark in a number of ways. Unfortunately, Cyberpunk 2077’s bugs and poorly rendered NPCs aren’t the only problems that plague the game, with many of the title’s shortcomings just being made more apparent by the struggles players are facing while trying to play....
Things have been fairly quiet over at Crystal Dynamics lately. Presumably hard at work preparing for a big presentation at E3 2012, this past weekend brings some not so good news for those anticipating the release of the Tomb Raider reboot. Darrell Gallagher, the head of the studio had a few words for the public, announcing the delay of the anticipated title until the first quarter of 2013. After more than a decade of playing and mastering Derek Yu’s popular roguelike Spelunky, the auteur game designer has finally unleashed the long awaited sequel. Spelunky 2 retains much of what made the original such a phenomenon; procedurally generated levels, ambiguous gameplay mechanics, a unique art style, and brutal difficulty. Many are in it for the extreme challenge which keeps even the most expert players on their toes. For those yearning for games of a similar ilk, any of the ten titles below will do....
