With the October air sending a cool chill up the spines of many, the time has come to present the spookiest areas in video games. Whether they be from horror games or from any other genre, these areas became notorious for sending chills down many players’ spines. Hospitals, mansions, crypts, and even police stations name just a few examples. The most unsettling areas feature anything from terrifying monsters to the feeling of being watched....

In the 35+ years since the NES changed the video game industry, we’ve celebrated pretty much every aspect of the revolutionary console (including that strange time when we all thought blowing air into an NES cartridge could fix them). However, it’s truly remarkable to look back at the NES’ incredible library of all-time great titles and realize that so many of them haven’t gotten a proper sequel. While it’s amazing to think that the video game industry has refrained from making sequels to some of these games given the sequel/reboot/remake culture that we live in, the fact of the matter is that there’s just something about each of the games on this list that make them tough sells for a revival....

When early, unofficial screenshots for this year’s Assassin’s Creed game, subtitled Unity, leaked online, Ubisoft was forced to show their hand and confirm Assassin’s Creed: Unity is real. At the same time, Ubisoft took things a step further and confirmed a prior rumor that they are working on two Assassin’s releases for 2014, a current-gen title (Unity) and a last-gen title. However, although the beans have been appropriately spilt regarding Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Ubisoft has yet to say a thing about the last-gen title....

It’s been quite some time since fans have had the opportunity to play a new Banjo-Kazooie title. Admittedly, the bird and bear duo has had an installment in their series arrive on the Xbox 360, but it drastically changed much of the core mechanics that longtime followers of the franchise fell in love with. Now a team comprised of former Rare developers have come together under the banner of Playtonic Games in an effort to bring a spiritual successor to the beloved platforming IP to market....

Heading into the launch of Battlefield 3 on console, the competition between Electronic Arts’ FPS franchise and Call of Duty was at an all-time high, and more importantly the mud slinging was down and dirty. However, neither series has had a glowing a reputation since that time, and as a result the playful jabs went away. In more ways than one, the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a departure from the franchise’s norm. The game is making sweeping changes to the Call of Duty’s core formula, and looks like it’ll innovate more than any Call of Duty title since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out nearly a decade ago. Many of these innovations will come in the form of tweaks to standard features, such as a highly replayable, nonlinear Call of Duty campaign....

The big news in video games right now is, of course, the current console war between the Xbox One (for which Microsoft just announced a November 22nd release date) and the PlayStation 4, but moving on from the realms of hardware to the world of software there are plenty of smaller battles going on between dueling games that share a genre. After all, gamers love a bit of competition. Perhaps the most prominent of these is the face-off between Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4, the two next entries in a series that has been dominating the modern military FPS genre for years....

The first Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was something of a cult hit, albeit on a small scale. Those who gave the game a chance likely found a lot to enjoy in Lords of Shadow’s concept, even if the game was more or less God of War meets Castlevania. From the moment it was revealed, we could tell that Disney was betting big on Disney Infinity. As a direct competitor to Activision’s Skylanders brand, Infinity had the immediate appeal of using popular Disney films and a concept that requires spending money regularly. However, with Skylanders being the first out of the gate there were some questions as to how Disney Infinity would do, sales-wise, in comparison. And as it turns out, Disney Infinity was about on par with the current iteration of Skylanders, Skylanders: Giants....

Even after a slow start due to production delays and review copies that didn’t get into the hands of critics before launch, Dying Light has proven to be a hit with both fans and journalists. To continue to grow the community and to keep things fresh for existing players, Techland is releasing even more content for the open world zombie game which promises to change the way players interact with this world....

Everything seems to be coming together for Forza Motorsport 4. With its October release date is almost exactly three months away, now is the time to start cranking up the hype machine. To that end, Microsoft has just released Forza 4’s blistering E3 2011 trailer, which features a full run-down of what players can expect from the game and a nice long look at its eye-popping graphics. Though many of the features that were officially announced for Forza Motorsport 4 during Microsoft’s E3 2011 Press Conference (Kinect integration, online car clubs, 16 player races) were leaked in an information-packed trailer that hit the web last April, that doesn’t take any of the punch away from this amazing look at the game....

At the height of the mobile touch screen device craze there emerged a select few titles that dominated all else. One of those titles was Fruit Ninja, a deviously addictive yet surprisingly simple swipe-all-over-the-place title where players slice and dice fruit to earn points. Back when Fruit Ninja was still somewhat of a big deal in the mobile world, Microsoft introduced a Kinect version of the game called…you guessed it…Fruit Ninja Kinect....

Yes, you read that headline correctly, and no, we haven’t been transported back to 2007. There have been reports of significant framerate drops in the PS3 version of Mass Effect 3. Mass Effect 3 is arguably the most anticipated release this year, however it appears that PS3 users are getting the short end of the stick. The game is supposed to run at 30 frames per second, but Eurogamer is reporting that the title will drop to 20 FPS in multiple cases, including cutscenes and large combat sequences....

The next entry in Maxis’ multi-award-winning Sims series may be just around the street corner. The fourth edition of the perennially popular ’life tycoon’ title was first unveiled back in May of this year, when EA announced a prospective 2014 release date for The Sims 4. With the game expected to make its formal bow at this year’s Gamescom expo in Germany, it looks as if EA’s big surprise has just been spoiled early....

Pokemon games tend to have things that don’t always transfer from region to region, but characters are definitely not one of them. Every time Rockstar Games create a video game, they make sure to pack so many details that it seems almost insane.
