The long dark night is over, and Cyberpunk 2077 has finally been released. CD Projekt Red’s flagship title has been scoring rave reviews from both critics and gamers alike, and it’s a stunning achievement that will influence the future of story-driven adventure games for years to come. The day one launch was interesting, to say the least. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a far sight better than other launches gamers have suffered through of late....

Death in the brutal and unforgiving world of Valheim is almost guaranteed. Whether a player is crushed by a falling tree, or falls foul to one of the Wolves in the harsh Mountain biome, losing all your items can seem like the end of the world. Have no fear. Death is not the end in Valheim, and it is possible for a player to retrieve their inventory. So begins the tricky task of navigating back to the gravestone, which could be almost anywhere on the map....

Birthdays are a way of remembering a person while they are still currently alive or honoring them after they’ve passed. Novels rarely, if ever, flat-out state when a character’s birthday is. It would interrupt the flow of the story. With the introduction of video games, more and more writers are taking care to include when someone was born so that their lives are taking place during an active world, not a metaphysically timeless one....

Even though the majority of the potentially record-breaking sales for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of the game, Infinity Ward yesterday revealed they will also be putting out a Wii version of the first person shooter for those gamers who like to get their motion control on. Obviously, Modern Warfare 3 on the Wii won’t be an exact replica of the PS3 or Xbox 360 experience, but it will be yet another console that supports the juggernaut franchise....

Microsoft was out in full force at Comic-Con 2013 with a large show floor demo area, a special Xbox-dedicated gamer lounge, and hands-on and hands-off demos for the press. We had a chance to watch a behind-closed-doors demo of Dead Rising 3 which, despite being the exact same demo from E3 2013, revealed some interesting things about the game. While a lot of the proper gameplay elements (combining weapons, leveling the character, some basic story and world elements) were covered in our first preview of the game, there were a few details that slipped through the cracks....

This past week Epic Games launched a massive legal effort against tech giants Apple and Google over alleged monopolistic and anti-competitive efforts regarding their mobile device marketplaces. To do so, Epic orchestrated and executed a plan leading to Fortnite’s removal from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play shop, then followed it up with a video mocking Apple’s iconic 1984 commercial played within Fortnite. Since then, Epic has been accused of “weaponizing Fortnite fans,” a claim Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has taken issue with....

When the Android-based platform OUYA was first announced via Kickstarter, not many gamers knew what to make of it. We’ve seen this type of thing before – an alternative to today’s overpriced consoles – but usually those fail to make a splash. OUYA, however, is slowly trying to make a name for itself and has today announced a partnership that is sure to turn some heads. That collaboration in question involves Final Fantasy developer Square Enix, who have announced plans to bring Final Fantasy III to OUYA at launch....

Microsoft has a number of blockbuster exclusives in its arsenal, but none stand as tall as the incredibly successful Halo franchise. Xbox owners have grown accustomed to the release of every new iteration in the series, but fans were disappointed when Halo: Spartan Assault bypassed a console release and became a Window 8 exclusive. Now, after several months, 343 Industries has now announced that it’ll finally be bringing the top-down Halo shooter to both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One in order to appease its console fan base....

The Halo: Master Chief Collection is a relatively large undertaking by 343 Industries. HD remakes and re-releases aren’t as simple as most would think, and 343 had extra work ahead of them since they’re bringing Halo 1, 2, 3 and 4 to the Xbox One. Unsurprisingly, many Halo fans are eagerly anticipating the collection’s release, which will allow them to replay all of the classic Halo games but with newly updated visuals....

If industry awards were handed out in categories like “Most Boring-Sounding Premise” or “Game Mechanic No One Asked For…Ever,” then independent developer Lucas Pope’s Papers, Please would score the clean sweep this year. Turning a virtual daily grind at a seemingly mundane occupation into a game people would actually want to play is no easy task, but it is, nonetheless, the one Pope decided to try and tackle. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a massive open-world game that, to the surprise of no one, has its fair share of problems. Considering the sheer size of the game, how it looks, the ridiculous amount of quests, and so many other things, it’s actually a bit surprising how functional the game really is. Sure, the game has required a patch here and there, with a few focusing on improving the visuals, but compared to other open-world games, or just recent games at all, The Witcher 3 deserves to be praised for coming out on current hardware and running relatively well....

It’s hard not to enjoy Titanfall on some level. The ’90s were 30 years ago, a different era full of occurrences that would be considered odd or hilarious by today’s standards.
