The Xbox has turned into a dependable gaming machine and it’s been interesting to see how each of the new consoles in the series manage to improve upon past mistakes and help facilitate a whole new generation of games. Audiences may have initially been skeptical towards Microsoft’s role in the console game, but they’ve proven over time that they’re not going anywhere. Microsoft has been able to cultivate a number of original properties for the various Xbox consoles, but they’ve also been able to act as the home for a number of spin-off titles that take established properties and go in a different direction with them....

While there have been numerous video games that have succeeded due to original storytelling, some of today’s more popular games have been adapted from novels or comic books. One of the best video game series with a massive book following as well is no doubt Metro 2033, as well as the ever-popular fantasy series The Witcher. These two franchises prove that the world of video games is ready to tackle the rich tapestry of creative worlds in books and bring them to life....

Super Mario is perhaps the most recognizable video game character of all time. With his signature mustache, suspenders, and red hat, Mario has captured the hearts of gamers and non-gamers alike, with the Super Mario games truly transcending the genre. Everyone’s heard of the big ones: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Odyssey, the list goes on and on. But what you may not know is that Mario has also made appearances in a variety of other titles, some of which may have even been missed by the sharpest of eyes....

Since the cancellation of Silent Hills, the psychological horror franchise has essentially been on hold. But that certainly hasn’t discouraged fan rumors from popping up to offer speculation on what the future of the series might look like. While the first four games in the series were developed by Team Silent, an internal development team in Konami, the subsequent games were developed by various game studios to equally varying degrees of success....

As Assassin’s Creed titles have evolved over the years, character outfits have also become more complex to better represent each game’s historical setting. These gear appearances are as beautiful as they are varied. Ubisoft shrouds its Assassins in Greek armor, pirate gear, monk robes, Viking mail, Venetian cloaks, Industrial-London leathers, and much more. These updated cosmetics are pretty cool, but players are now worried that Ubisoft has strayed too far from its Creed roots....

The Splinter Cell franchise is in a weird place where there hasn’t been a new entry in 6 years, yet the main character, Sam Fisher, has made cameos in other Tom Clancy games and projects. In May of 2019, a producer at Ubisoft made a tweet that he had been working on a new Splinter Cell game that may or may not show up at E3 2019. He quickly let the internet know that he was simply joking and as you can infer that didn’t go over well with Splinter Cell fans or the franchise publisher, Ubisoft....

Fire Emblem is a franchise that revolves around quality storytelling and the experience that comes with it through nicely integrated gameplay. Fire Emblem Three Houses is no exception to this and clearly succeeded given its incredible success and boom in popularity. Much like any story, however, it does have its flaws. Intentionally or not, Fire Emblem Three Houses has the tendency to scatter a lot of important plot details through the several routes of the game....

Welcome to our regular gameplay impressions and video post where we record our first 10-30 minutes with a new game, and provide some general impressions on that early playthrough. Today’s game is: Broforce from developer Free Lives Games. At its most basic, Broforce is a pseudo 8-bit homage to the side-scrolling shooters of yesteryear, the Contras and the Metal Slugs of the arcade and early console generation. However, while many games take homage to a level of reverence, Broforce tips the scales more towards parody....

In most cases, when a developer issues a new patch for their game the intent is to fix a nagging problem, either on the server or the player side. Occasionally, however, the implementation of a patch uncovers a new problem in the game, even causing more harm than doing good. The latest patch for Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One, for example, was put in place to improve the game’s performance in multiplayer, yet it ended up causing frame rate dips on maps where there currently were none....

Earlier today, Activision gave fans their first look at the Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer in action. We had been hearing about this special multiplayer reveal event for months, and now that the dust has finally settled, we know a lot more about the game’s online experience. While the event featured plenty of details about the entire breadth of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer, the main focal point of the presentation was the first multiplayer trailer (seen above)....

It has only been a little under three weeks since the launch of Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2 and already some PvP players are feeling either fatigued or disillusioned with the mode. While the draw for endgame Crucible combat is still there for plenty of D2 fans, others are finding the rampant cheating, uninteresting meta, and connection errors are ruining the experience. When Trials of Osiris was first announced as returning for Destiny 2, the community was excited, even if they saw the announcement coming....

The original Deus Ex is not only one of the most highly-lauded and influential action RPGs of all time, it’s also widely considered to be one of the best PC games of all time. Eidos Montreal’s recent prequel, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, was released on consoles as well but the franchise still feels most at home on PC. Because of this, it was pretty baffling when the spin-off title Deus Ex: The Fall, which sounded in every way like the perfect piece of standalone DLC, was announced for release exclusively on mobile platforms....

Although gamers as a group are known to be a competitive bunch, this is still one of the best communities to be a part of. Yes, it has its darker sides, but there are equal amounts of heartwarming gaming stories out there. One such example, involves a group of Final Fantasy XIV players who rallied around a terminally ill fellow player. Word initially broke of the Final Fantasy XIV player’s health problems over the weekend, and one real-world friend decided to share the story....

Well, that didn’t last long. While 2013’s Xbox One exclusive Forza Motorsport 5 did fairly well by critics, gamers ended up less than pleased with the final product. Their main complaint? The game’s aggressive use of microtransactions. This was particularly true when Forza 5 first launched, as many of the best cars were only available for exorbitant prices, while the game constantly pestered players to use ’tokens’ (which cost real money) to unlock on-disc content....

The amount of content available in Gears of War 3’s online multiplayer just keeps growing, and this month’s Fenix Rising DLC package is adding even more. As one of the 5 new maps being added, ‘Academy’ offers some environments that will be both new and nostalgic for fans of the series, and a fairly sizable arena for some vintage Gears of War 3 action. We’ve already gotten several looks at details and screenshots of Fenix Rising, but nothing can compare to a real-time look at the courtyards and architecture that will soon be smeared with blood and guts....

Gang Beasts is a game that could really use a tutorial, honestly. I like being thrown into the action when I play games, don’t get me wrong, but Gang Beast’s controls can be a bit unconventional, and when combined with the squishy, blobby character and sometimes subtle animations, it’s tough to even figure out what any given button actually does. This can be very frustrating. But luckily, we have the answers....

Two years ago Avalance Studios confirmed a pair of releases for 2013. With Just Cause 2 coming out to critical acclaim and big sales numbers a year prior, it was a given that a followup was on the way, but we’ve little on that front since. As of last year however, we learned the studio - with another new office in New York - was working on three different titles, but still no official unveilings of any of them....

When it comes to 1v1 multiplayer games, few things are worse than an inactive opponent. Getting online, preparing a strategy, and then finding out that one’s opponent simply walked away to do something else is not just insulting, it’s frustrating. Mortal Kombat X is hoping to combat online inactivity with a new finishing move they’re calling the Quitality. Essentially, the inactive player will spontaneously combust and their head will pop off its body....

It’s no secret that StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm will likely be released mid-2012, and Blizzard can only hope it reaches the same acclaim as Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty, which not only won our Best Multiplayer game of 2010 award, but took home a great review and became the fastest selling strategy game ever. Today, developers at BlizzCon revealed 8 new units for the expansion, all of which will change the face of the gameplay as we know it....
