Despite the recent influx of news regarding Borderlands 2, the one key ingredient for unbridled enthusiasm has been strangely missing: gameplay footage. It seems the gods of leaked footage have finally heard our prayers though, and thus fourteen minutes of a Gunzerker demonstration made a brief appearance online for the unwashed masses. The most noticeable and welcome change is the amount of variety in the game’s environments. Borderlands was a game that was more mechanically dynamic than most other current generation shooters, but the landscape was inexplicably drab, dreary, and after several hours of playing, just outright boring....
The tower defense genre of games compliments quick bursts of gameplay. Perhaps 5-10 minute sessions where a player wants to be entertained with a simple concept of resource allocation to build structures that lay siege. Unfortunately, Defenders of Ardania does not make the the genre appealing on Xbox 360. Rather than something simple and enjoyable, Defenders of Ardania is mostly boring and underwhelming. In a major blow to online content makers, Twitch has begun to issue DMCA takedowns to “hundreds” of partnered streamer, according to Rod “Slasher” Breslau. However, these copyright strikes are far more severe than ones seen on other platforms - not to mention more byzantine. Instead of informing streamers what content has been taken down, why it’s being taken down, or the process of determining what’s in violation of copyright, Twitch has unilaterally begun to pull the content altogether....
Earlier this month, Sony started its ‘Only on PlayStation’ promotion which heralded the arrival of several console exclusive games for PSN such as Rochard and the recently released Sideway: New York. The promotion is dedicated to offering unique content to PSN at a reasonable price to users. Eufloria, developed by Omni Creative Group International, was one such game. It was originally called Dyson, but the change of name to Eufloria captures the minimalist visual aesthetic better than the original name....
Halo 5: Guardians may not be officially arriving until 2015, but thanks to the massive Halo: The Master Chief Collection bundle, die-hard fans won’t have to wait until next year to get a taste of the first original new-gen Halo experience. Electronic Arts made a big splash at E3 2013 during its press conference on Monday, in which the first official announcement for a Mirror’s Edge sequel was made. While this year has arguably been among the most exciting of E3’s history, DICE wisely saved the best for last when showing the teaser trailer for their cult hit, and it paid off. Not much is known about the planned reboot, but EA promises it will be an “open-world action adventure game” that aims to stay true to the original....
Turtle Beach and Activision are teaming up to give Modern Warfare 3 fans some exclusive headsets for the highly anticipated shooter. Turtle Beach will be releasing four exclusive ear-cans with the MW3 license and Activision is giving gamers an incentive to buy them with some additional in-game content. These aren’t just Ear Force headsets with MW3 painted on the sides. The audio engineers over at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games stepped in and created special audio presets designed to knock your socks off while playing MW3....
In addition to a movie titled Need For Speed - which is set to release in March of next year - there is also a matter of the newest entry in the video game franchise. A new gameplay trailer for Need For Speed: Rivals has surfaced along with a slew of screenshots (watch the trailer at the top of the page). The graphics alone in the trailer are nothing short of impressive but the implementation of challenges within the game will increase replay value, and make the title more difficult than past entries in the series....

Lay-offs are unfortunately an all too common part of the video game industry, with Twisted Metal developer Eat Sleep Play being the latest team hit with job cuts. Eight of the company’s thirty four employees have been cut just as the game finishes production. Currently, the team is working on a day one patch for Twisted Metal, as well as correcting the issues surrounding the game’s recently released multiplayer demo. After that, they’re going in a new direction, without the help of David Jaffe....
UPDATE: With Sony making no announcement about its presenters being rendered, we’re forced to come to the conclusion that they were, in fact, real human beings. The PlayStation 5 reveal event is happening right now, and as exciting as it is seeing all of the upcoming games for Sony’s next-gen console, arguably, the most impressive part of the presentation is… the presenters themselves. Nearly all of the human presenters during the livestream look to actually be rendered versions of themselves....
War Thunder, Gaijin Entertainment’s historical free-to-play air combat title, has been kicking up a storm. Its open beta launched in November of 2012, and since then the game, which allows players to get in the cockpit of World War 2-era planes and wreak havoc, has grabbed the attention of seven million users.
