If there’s one driving force behind any great RPG, MMO, or combination thereof it’s loot. Players spend countless hours grinding out levels, repeating quests, and even completing the most inane tasks simply to have the coolest looking gear and weapons. One developer that is well aware of the viability of loot is Bungie, whose upcoming game Destiny is reportedly packed full of loot. And not just any loot, mind you, but handcrafted pieces of armor and unique weapons befit an expansive sci-fi world....

Perhaps no single video game genre offers as many variants as the humble racing game. From hopping and sliding around corners in Mario Kart 7 to the exacting real-world courses and strategies of Forza Motorsport 4, there is something for nearly everyone. Why, then, has it been so long since a racing game offered the simple joy of massive automotive destruction? That dry spell ends this May with the release of DiRT Showdown, the latest entry in Codemasters’ long-running, critically acclaimed line of racing games....

If players have been keeping up with the Jason/Vass dynamic within Ubisoft Montreal’s Far Cry series, then they’ll know that playing side-by-side with someone is not typical. Occasionally there will be that person or persons to help in a mission, but for the most part, it’s a story of solidarity and revenge. Yet during Sony’s Press Conference on Monday, the world got its first glimpse at what 4-player co-op will look like in the upcoming Far Cry 3....

When Microsoft purchased the Gears of War IP from developer Epic Games back in January, many people wondered if the gaming giant would attempt a reboot after Gears of War: Judgment disappointed players and critics. Phil Spencer recently confirmed that the new Gears of War game – unofficially titled Gears of War 4 – would not be a reboot, but that the game would return to the series’ “soulful” and “dark” roots....

It’s literally been one day, but Minecraft — Pocket Edition is already a huge hit for iOS devices. How big of a hit you ask? Well the title has already cracked the top spot for apps, and Mojang didn’t officially announce it until today. Mojang was actually holding off on unveiling Minecraft — Pocket Edition until MineCon, which began today (and also marked Minecraft, the PC version, going live), but in order to ensure that announcement went off without a hitch they had to put the portable title online yesterday....

Mortal Kombat X has proven to be extremely popular, as it holds the distinction of being the fastest-selling game in the history of the series, as well as being the best-selling game of April. The game’s post-launch DLC campaign, highlighted by fan-pleasing new fighters, can be at least partially considered a reason why the game is doing so well. The Horror Pack DLC released less than a month after the full game came out in April, headlined by one of the most anticipated guest characters the series has had: Jason Voorhees, star of the Friday the 13th slasher film franchise....

From its early moments, Trials Fusion establishes a very specific tone, one that will be very familiar to fans of the series. As the aptly titled and extremely goofy menu song “Welcome to the Future” plays, Trials Fusion confirms to players that, yes, this is still the Trials they know and love, and it continues to reassure them of that all the way through. As viewers can see in our gameplay video above, Trials Fusion is the best looking game in the franchise thus far....

Any fans of horror out there? Sometimes fans of the genre get a single movie from a director and crew. Other times it can lead to a short stream of viral videos on the internet like with Slenderman. With Into The Dark, Hulu changed the rules and came out swinging. This anthology horror series features twenty-four short films all with different themes on the horror genre. The list of talent on the show is astronomical and they’re all directed by film and television producer Jason Blum....

The Arkham games have become one of the most recognizable incarnations of Batman ever created due to their mix of original ideas mixed with love and passion for Batman stories in the past. Even elements of the movies take some inspiration from the games. Though the Arkhamverse is mainly a reimagining of Batman and his entire mythos, the games are jam-packed with many Easter eggs from across the DC Universe. Some of these Easter eggs are pretty out in the open, but then others can only be found if the player is willing to dig deep into the games’ versions of Gotham City....

In the case of many games, once the end credits start rolling and the story is over, that’s the end of the gameplay experience. And if players want to experience the game over again, they will have to start from the beginning. Since this can be a daunting task if the game is particularly long, the idea of New Game+ was introduced to many modern titles to make the experience more engaging....

The Xbox Series X has been through some aesthetic changes. Is it a good thing? Well, as far as console designs go, the Xbox has been slowly changing into a cube or a fridge. From the original Xbox, through the 360, into the Xbox One, and now the Series X, the brand has slowly evolved into the square. This makes for great fodder for meme makers, who can be creative, funny, and a little predictable....

Older gamers will remember the PS1 days when big JRPGs would come on anywhere between two and four discs. Some games did not even have to be lengthy to have multiple CDs. With a lot of cutscenes, audio data, and FMV sequences, a shorter eight or ten hour game could easily go across several discs. Most think these times are over, but those dedicated to physical media know this not to be entirely true....

Pokemon is coming off of the release of Pokemon Sword & Shield’s second DLC expansion, The Crown Tundra. It added a ton of older Pokemon to the National Pokedex for the Galar region, and even managed to sneak in a few new horse-inspired Pokemon as well. When looking at the roster of almost 1,000 creatures the franchise has become home to over the last two decades, you forget how big or small certain Pokemon are in relation to humans and to one another....

The Pokemon franchise is rooted in its legacy in many ways, but its willingness to add things that retroactively change things has helped in its sustainability. A handful of new types have been added to the series since its inception, with the Fairy-type coming as part of the release of the 6th generation of games. Since then The Pokemon Company has included Fairy-type Pokemon through the release of Pokemon Sword & Shield, while at the same time going back and giving deserving Pokemon the type....

With Respawn dishing out news for Apex Legends’ new character Wattson at this year’s E3, in anticipation of the season two launch, there will likely be an influx of noobs that have no idea how to begin. Apex Legends somewhat threatened Fortnite as a battle royale alternative, by resolving some innate issues the genre is often imbued with. With a smaller arena, fewer players, and the removal of the construction mechanics, its gameplay has a significantly faster pace....

Despite giving players an ample amount of time to explore the world of Persona 5, about eighty hours or so, there were still plot threads left dangling by the end. Some of this is addressed with this new version, but there are other questions still left unanswered. For that matter Persona 5 Royal also opens up the door for even more riddles. Some of these entries fall on the side of plot holes, while others are just that, unanswered questions....

Planeswalkers are among the most integral figures within the story of Magic: The Gathering. Beings capable of traversing the planes of the multiverse, Planeswalkers wield incredible magical power. While there are many potent Planeswalker cards within the game, there are also many cards whose in-game viability doesn’t quite match up with their power in the story. On paper, Planeswalkers are among the most powerful and impressive beings within the multiverse. Unfortunately, not all of their cards reflect this, and would be passed up by most players building decks....

Released in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Mario Bros. is perhaps the most influential game of all time. With intricate level design, an inviting aesthetic, and a fantastic soundtrack, the game set the standard for platformers. The story is just as iconic, featuring a hero journeying through dangerous settings to rescue a princess from the clutches of a tyrant. It began a rivalry between a man with a red cap named Mario and a turtle king by the name of Bowser....

In trying to create a new multiplayer experience for Battlefield 3 gamers with their Close Quarters Combat DLC expansion, DICE has to make a few changes the formula gamers have become used to. While nothing too revolutionary will be changing for CQC, DICE had to eliminate a fan-favorite mode, Rush, because it wouldn’t have worked on smaller maps. Though Rush works wonderfully on the larger maps in Battlefield 3’s selection, on maps the size of those being featured in CQC the level expansion and progression dynamics just weren’t possible....

It seems that mom and pop retail outlets have been breaking street dates again, and as a result a few lucky gamers found themselves with a copy of Battlefield 3 on Friday of last week. As of last Saturday, install sizes for the platform versions of the game had already been posted on the net, with a full list now compiled. Looking at Battlefield 3 for Xbox 360 in particular, owners of that platform are going to need a sizable amount of free space if they hope to install the full contents of both discs, the day one patch, and the infamous high-res texture pack....
