With a new generation also comes the prospect of old franchises returning from the grave. Over PlayStation’s lifespan, which started in 1994 in Japan before the console made its way to the states the following year, many series have come and go. Earlier PlayStation consoles have already seen franchise revivals, like 2018’s God of War, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and the Medieval remake, so it only makes sense for more dormant IPs to come around in the near future....

Resident Evil revolutionized the horror genre upon its 1996 release. Never before had a mainstream game terrified players so effectively. That’s not to say the genre didn’t exist beforehand, however. In fact, a large handful of horror games which hit shelves before Capcom’s landmark title still have the ability to scare the pants off anybody who plays it. Maybe the ten games below show their age in other ways, like gameplay, graphics, and design, but they shouldn’t be forgotten by history....

All of the Pokémon types have some weird residents, and the brawny and powerful Fighting-type is no different. Dominated by boxers, martial artists, wrestlers, and other designs based on fighting sports, the Fighting-type is known for powerhouses of physical prowess, quick, powerful attacks, and a ton of muscular Pokémon. Launches are messy things. For hardware and games alike, several major releases in recent history have gone astray of expectations. Be it server issues or game quality crippling sales, there are hundreds of things that can go wrong at a video game launch. Of late, EA has had a few launches that haven’t quite gone its way. While much has been made of Disney Infinity’s introduction of Marvel heroes and villains for Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition), many may not be familiar with the various gameplay improvements that are on the way for this second iteration. Specifically, Disney Interactive and Avalanche Software have taken the free form creation tool called the Toy Box, and revamped it to be easier and faster to use. Over this past weekend, DI played host to a Toy Box Summit where they gathered some of the greatest Toy Box creators from Disney Infinity 1....

Whether it’s crafting a game where murdering eight sons to unite Russia and Scotland seems like a good idea or making a Reservoir Dogs trailer for a game about magic, Paradox Development Studio and Paradox Interactive have seemingly perfected the craft of developing engaging and deep strategy games. Europa Universalis IV comes after the well-received Crusader Kings 2 and appropriately picks up right where its predecessor left off. Instead of worrying about dynasties is the 4X (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) followup, players now embody a nation throughout the ages of the Renaissance and industrial revolution, competing against hundreds of other nations of varying sizes in a game which gets complicated very, very quickly....

In any console’s launch day line-up there are roles to be played by every release. One game is meant to appeal to the casual sports crowd, another to the hardcore shooter crowd, and one for those who want something a little different. Sony Japan’s Knack is the family friendly title. Knack embraces a playfully clay-like art style and a fairly on-the-nose story — two key indicators of a game meant for kids — but it might also hold some appeal for mature gamers....

Unfortunately, in the highly competitive gaming industry, news of a studio closing its doors is not uncommon. This extends all across the industry, and even the more prominent studios are at risk. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that EA announced the closure of Maxis Emeryville, most known for bringing The Sims and SimCity franchises to life. Now yet another studio has decided to cease operations. It has been confirmed that Los Angeles-based developer Spark Unlimited will no longer be creating new games, and are currently in the process of shutting down entirely....

Racing game fans did not have the best 2014. Despite Gran Turismo 7 being considered for a 2014 release as a ‘best-case scenario’, Producer Kazunori Yamauchi then announced that the game wouldn’t be coming to PS4 until 2015 at the very earliest. Driveclub experienced a well-documented set of troubles (with the PS+ version still yet to materialize) while multiplayer racer The Crew was the latest Ubisoft game to be hit with big bugs....

DC fans are definitely split when it comes to their opinions on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The title has even taken flack over the years for sounding like a death match while setting up the Justice League. It’s a decision that is now set in stone, but thanks to Justice Con, we now know what titles Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio were eyeing. Zack Snyder, the director with a unique visual style, is currently one of the busiest directors in the present day....

Last month, we reported that Kurt Sutter had finally announced an authentic Sons of Anarchy game in tandem with Orpheus Interactive and Silverback Games after failing to secure a console-based title. The newly-formed Canadian studios have kept quiet since the announcement, but came out today to reveal the first real glimpse of the game beyond the logo. In the 42-second teaser trailer, it’s clear that The Prospect has taken visual cues from Telltale, and that the developers aren’t afraid to produce cheesy jokes about ‘making the cut’....

While developer Naughty Dog denied that their PS3 exclusive title The Last of Us would ever make the jump to PS4 in the form of a remake or port, most figured that Sony would eventually override that decision. After all, how could they not try to get a little extra mileage out of one of the best games released last year? Now, it seems Sony is ready to finally confirm a Last of Us PS4 version is on the way, but the timing of that announcement apparently didn’t make its way through all the proper channels....

The fantasy genre is an incredibly broad one which intersects with many others. From JRPGs like Final Fantasy to Action RPGs like Skyrim, fantasy elements have found their way into some of the biggest games and franchises in the industry. While they are incredibly common today though, that hasn’t always been the case. That entire game is emotional gut-punch followed by emotional roundhouse kick into an emotional right hook, and it is absolutely awe-inspiring to experience. And so, with the recent delay of The Last Of Us Part II, many are looking around for another game that can deliver anything similar for the wait. Resident Evil games tend to be short, but they’re always filled with an inherent replay value. The original Resident Evil’s freeform level design made replaying the game incredibly fun, and Resident Evil 2 would immediately expand on the replay value through the Zapping system. Even without an emphasis on replayability, titles like Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4 are filled with enough hidden details to keep fans coming back for more....

Detroit: Become Human invites players into the future when androids are nearly indistinguishable from humans. Existing exclusively for servitude, they replace people in countless jobs from cashiering to babysitting. While many benefit from their existence, others are left jobless and angry. Humans are not the only ones questioning their treatment. Some androids - nicknamed “deviants” - see more than a life of slavery in their futures. Played from the unique point of view of three, separate androids, players control the story based on individual dialogue and action choices....
