Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG that’s coming up on 10 years since its release in 2012. Some players have been dedicated fans, sticking with the game for three, five, seven years - or longer! Many duck in and out, picking it up as it tickles their fancy and there’s new and interesting content for them to explore. Guild Wars 2 players will receive their third expansion this year, End of Dragons, assuming it isn’t subject to COVID-related delays....

Although the initial announcement of Alien: Isolation’s two pre-order DLC packages, Crew Expendable and Last Survivor, drew plenty of excitement from fans, that enthusiasm soon turned to disappointment. Sure, the idea of playing out some of the first film’s big moments was enticing, but locking that content behind a pre-order seemed to rub gamers the wrong way. Battlefield 3’s Aftermath DLC released at the beginning of the month, adding four large urban based maps located in the ruins of post-earthquake Iran, and it’s arguably the best map pack released yet. Aftermath added a new Crossbow weapon, a few new scavenger-themed vehicles to go along with the new soldier skins, but more importantly, it offered balanced gameplay for all Battlefield 3 player classes to go along with a brand new mode....

The last time we heard from BioShock Infinite, Irrational Games’ creative director Ken Levine was still holding major plot elements of the story under lock and key from his own development staff. The recent void of news for the game had many fans feeling the same way about a release date - and a wait until the clustered holiday season wasn’t out of the question. It’s somewhat unexpected, then, that 2K Games and Irrational have chosen to beat the rush rather than be among it, and will be releasing BioShock Infinite this fall....

When Capcom’s Resident Evil series began to turn away from its dark and spooky roots, in an attempt to attract action-shooter gamers, many fans began to consider EA’s Dead Space franchise as the heir-apparent to the survival horror subgenre. Bethesda had us fooled. Here we were yesterday, our hope sprung eternal that an Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim trailer was headed our way, after the developer teased an image of what looked to be a Nord (and perhaps his Thalmor captor) and a sure foreshadowing of upcoming Skyrim DLC. In search of Dawnguard, we let down our guard, and now we’re sprawled on floor. Picking up our jaws. As it turns out, our suspected Nord is actually Corvo, the protagonist of Dishonored – the steampunk stealth action game from Bethesda and developer Arkane Studios that captured our attention when it was announced last July....

It is often said that other than exclusives, the thing that can most help a console to sell units is a driving game. This is down to the fact that the nature of the driving genre, in which the visual of cars and locations are boasted in equal measure to the actual gameplay, allows a new platform to showcase impressive graphics with a picturesque track reflecting off its bonnet as it convinces us to love it....

Like an ill-advised race down the slopes of Mt. Chiliad, Grand Theft Auto 5 just keeps on rolling. Glittering reviews, front-page news and a cool $1 billion in bankable cash, and the crim-sim creators over at Rockstar Games would appear to be sitting pretty. The latest landmark to feature in this alternate-universe L.A is one of unit sales, with 15 million copies being shifted in the last week alone. It’s sad, really. Lengthy download times, large day-one updates, and various launch issues are the norm now, and no matter how much of an inconvenience they may be, it doesn’t appear as though they’re going away....

Last month, gamers who follow the Lost Planet series were delighted to learn that they could look forward to a third iteration of the game in 2013. While development of Lost Planet 3 continues into the new year, Capcom has announced that the franchise will also be receiving a spin-off in the form of the radically different looking E.X. Troopers. The only catch is that the game will, for now anyway, be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS....

The era of the free-to-play title has arrived. From Marvel Heroes, to DC Universe Online and World of Warplanes, this year has seen the release, re-release and repackaging of many top-tier, subscription-less titles. Hoping to outdo them all is Cryptic Studios’ latest take on the popular D&D mythos, a high fantasy title named Neverwinter. Released back in June, 2013, this lore-rich universe has already attracted a respectable 2 million-plus players - including our own Rob Keyes - with updates and paid incentives also arriving thick and fast....

These days timing is everything — both in terms of finding the right release date and finding an audience looking for something fresh and new. Unfortunately, in strong opposition to those two ideals, is the piracy scene, which eliminates the revenue stream generated by an audience and sometimes breaks the carefully calculated release date. There are some developers who try to combat piracy by way of simple software-based means, and others who choose more interesting routes to voice their displeasure....

This year has featured many highly anticipated games, some of which came from Ubisoft. After a strong start to the year, Ubisoft caught a lot of heat for the problems that came with the Assassin’s Creed Unity launch last month. After a better showing with Far Cry 4’s launch, and numerous updates and fixes to Unity, it looks like Ubisoft may be back in the good graces of gamers. Fans of Thief have been waiting long enough to hear of Eidos Montreal’s plans for the franchise, and the wait is over. Thief 4 is a reality, and is currently in development for a 2014 launch. The long-awaited reboot, simply titled Thief has claimed the cover story of Game Informer’s April issue, and with it, a full unveil of the character design, setting, and peek behind the scenes has arrived....

Although things have slowly begun to look up for Wii U fans in terms of first party support, it’s a completely different story on the third party front. Developers and publishers are skipping out on the platform left and right, and those that are releasing titles for Wii U are doing so with features or content missing/excluded. Case in point: the forthcoming port of Watch Dogs, which we just learned will not include and DLC....

Earlier this month, PUBG Mobile was banned in several Indian districts, following concerns over its content and addictive nature. Rajkot police have been heavily enforcing the ban across the city, making ten arrests in the last two days. The ban began with a public outcry against the mobile battle royale game, which pits players against each other in a bid to be the last man standing. PUBG Mobile has faced heavy criticism in the Indian media and is being linked to violence, murder, aggression, looting, cyberbullying, and addiction....

Games that are designed for kids are often thought of as “too easy” or “only for children” by those that don’t know any better. Little do these people know, there are a lot of games that are designed for children, but are also incredibly challenging for all ages. Even the most hardcore and skilled gamers may have trouble completing everything these games have to offer. A lot of popular games that are loved by children also provide fun challenges for everyone that plays them....
