With the extreme proliferation of first-person shooter titles over the past years, it can be difficult to get excited about new releases. The Battlefield franchise in particular is destined to fight an uphill battle after the troubled launch of Battlefield 4 in 2013. In a bid to regain consumer interest, the latest iteration is shifting gears as it moves away from its wholly military influence. Rather, Battlefield Hardline looks to be embracing its cops and robbers aesthetic with an increased focus on a non-lethal dynamic....

Battlefield 4 would’ve been great, if only those bugs hadn’t gotten in the way. The game, as initially released, was fundamentally broken. Over time, DICE cleared up practically all of the game’s most pressing issues, but the damage was done: Battlefield 4 didn’t suffer in the marketplace, but the brand was irrevocably tarnished. That’s why Visceral Games is taking extra care to make sure that Battlefield Hardline doesn’t suffer from Battlefield 4’s mistakes....

A bit of silly naming aside, developers Gearbox Software and 2K Australia are taking a serious risk in making Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel the next iteration of the open world RPG franchise; a game not only (ambitiously) set in space as rumoured, but straddling the line between being a prequel to the well-received Borderlands 2 and sequel to the original title (as opposed to Borderlands 3). While Gearbox is adamant that Borderlands 3 isn’t in the works, they’ll have to work hard to hold fan interest and prolong the demand for the chronological follow up in the franchise....

Vertigo Gaming’s Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! is set to officially launch across all platforms this fall. Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! (yes, the question mark placement is very important) is the third entry in the series. It is currently available to try on Steam Early Access, and better yet? The entire franchise is on sale until June 8, with 3!? alone enjoying a 25% discount. A Trilogy Bundle is available for $13....

When Destiny was announced two years ago, all the way back in February 2013, plenty of people got excited. The game would be a persistently online MMO-lite where players could team up and take down enemies that look straight out of sci-fi movies in lands decorated with lore. It may be up for debate, but plenty would agree that Destiny is a success, with 16 million players in the game....

We’ve seen them endorsed by celebrities, models, team captains, and managers – a kit reveal is a special occasion. Sponsors are called, parties attended, and players walk onstage to a flurry of flashing cameras and excited murmurs. This year, Manchester City is doing things a little differently, celebrating their kit launch to coincide with a virtual video from FIFA 12, so fans of the game can see the kit in action before the season begins....

There was a time, around the same time that EA Sports had acquired the rights to exclusively publish NFL titles, that the FIFA franchise was overtaken by the Winning Eleven series (now known as Pro Evolution Soccer or PES). But since then FIFA and EA Sports have been able to do what they do best: evolve the sports experience into something heads above the competition. Speaking to that point, EA VP and GM of Northern Europe Keith Ramsdale has revealed that this year’s FIFA 12 has so far outsold PES at a ratio of 25:1....

It’s finally time for Final Fantasy 13-2 players to get the DLC they have been hoping for since launch. After ending with what could be considered one of the biggest teases of all time, Final Fantasy 13-2 has been dangling unfinished for almost four months now, and it’s finally time for some closure. On May 15th, as revealed by PlayStation Taiwan, the highly anticipated Lightning DLC, Requiem of the Goddess, will release and will hopefully tie up all of those loose ends....

After a game goes gold, and in the weeks leading up to its launch, there’s very little information that eager players should expect to get from the developers. TV Spots, the launch trailer that comes a week before the game’s release, or interviews are to be expected, but publishers typically don’t talk about details that should be considered major or reveal anything that could change a person’s decision to buy a game....

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the biggest video game titles ever. It’s not only the fastest-selling video game of all-time, raking in a whopping $800 million within just 24 hours, but is the fastest entertainment property to reach $1 billion in sales. With a re-release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One coming in Fall of this year, those sales figures are going to keep climbing and climbing. However, this all comes at a price....

Harry Potter may be the most success film franchise in history, but Harry’s video game legacy is substantially less sterling. In fact, the studio most recently responsible for turning Harry’s big screen exploits into playable adventures, Bright Light, was shuttered at the beginning of the year. Now the Harry Potter license has moved from Electronic Arts to Warner Bros. Interactive, and naturally, a new game is on the way. Blizzard’s popular collectible card game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, has thrived since it’s debut on PCs Macs in March of 2014. One month after its premiere, Hearthstone made its way to iPads, followed by Android tablets in late 2014. Suffice it to say, the game’s been a massive success. Today, Blizzard brings Hearthstone to even more players, as the game now supports iPod Touch devices and iPhone and Android smartphones....

When discussion of the different consoles comes up among gamers, it’s not unusual for a civil debate to turn hostile. Lately, a similar battle has been taking place among gamers in regards to digital distribution services Steam and Origin. While Steam is no doubt one of the most well-known services, EA’s connection to Origin has recently drawn many gamers through game exclusivity. Even though the release of Mass Effect 3 is still in the distance, EA has just announced a new Origin exclusive....

At this point it’s hard for Minecraft to get any bigger than it already is, having become a cultural phenomenon before it even officially released. When a game gets that big it either starts to die or starts to expand, and if you’re familiar with the game’s creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, then you know the latter is far more likely. Now that he’s got a bit of free time on his hands, Notch has created a scaled-down, ‘Zelda-ish’ version of his cubic masterpiece for an online gaming competition....

While sports franchises may carry their own particular curses or jinxes on whichever athlete is doomed to grace their cover, that has never been the case with NHL. Regardless, Tampa Bay’s star center Steven Stamkos has been given the chance to top off a career year with yet another honor - his face adorning the cover of NHL 12. EA Sports unveiled Stamkos as the chosen cover athlete at tonight’s NHL Awards show in Las Vegas, also giving a few more looks at gameplay....

At one point, the idea of a fighting game based on a turn-based RPG franchise might have seemed like a ridiculous idea, but Persona 4 Arena proved that it could be a match made in heaven. Following the onset of another mystery, the Inaba Investigation Team must return to the Midnight Channel with some familiar and not-so-familiar faces for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Building on the successes of the last title, this return to the Persona franchise is shaping up to be a mystery worth solving....

Out of all the games that came out in 2011, Dead Island and Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad offered a multitude of content for gamers to sink their teeth into. Those who have yet to pick up either title should hold out just a bit longer, as GOTY editions for both titles have just been announced! Red Orchestra 2 is the sequel to the tactical shooter by Tripwire Interactive, and also received a glowing review from Game Rant....

Whether or not Insomniac Games’ new open-world shooter Sunset Overdrive will actually be a decent game remains to be seen, but if nothing else it will be remembered for its excellent marketing campaign. Sunset Overdrive slammed into E3 2014 with a pitch-perfect trailer that at first presented itself as another grey-brown, cover-based military shooter, then had its hero burst cartoonishly through the door and shoot everything in sight before introducing the colorful world of Sunset City....
