The sense of viewership brings both the audience and streamer closer together; allowing both parties to feel like they’re truly along for the terrifying ride. The last time gamers saw Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth — the protagonists of BioShock Infinite — the duo was uncovering the many mysteries of Columbia and how that sky bound utopia fit into the larger BioShock mythos. In BioShock Infinite — Burial at Sea: Episode 1, however, the first story DLC for Irrational Games’ latest, the unlikely pair find themselves back in Rapture, the same underwater city featured prominently in the previous two BioShock games....

Treyarch is trying something new with its leveling and loadout system in Black Ops 2, something that will not drastically change the Call of Duty system, but will introduce some new features that force players to make some tough decisions. This new leveling system has been dubbed the Pick 10 system, and gives the player a wide selection of options to choose from as they level up, but limits them to only 10....

Over the last month, an unusual game has stepped up to dominate the gaming media buzz and gamer curiosity. And it’s not even really a game. We’re talking about DayZ, the early build of a mod based on ARMA 2. Since reporting on the title in mid-July when a competitor announced The War Z zombie-themed MMO, DayZ managed to grow very quickly by several hundred thousand players to cross the 1 million milestone....

After several delays, gamers had high expectations for Driveclub when the former PS4 launch title finally released in October. The IP was expected to establish itself as a worthy racer if only because it was one of few racing games releasing on PS4 in 2014. However, Driveclub quickly became a talked about title for many different reasons when the game suffered a series of issues at launch. The problems appeared to be with the game’s servers; forcing people out of Driveclub’s multiplayer and preventing them from playing as the developer, Evolution Studios, initially intended....

343 Industries has hit the ground running as it works to revitalize the Halo franchise. Bungie’s original Halo trilogy came to a close in 2007, in what was supposed to be the end of Master Chief’s story. It only took five years before Microsoft Studios was all, “jk lol” and began working with 343 Industries on the next trilogy, effectively bringing Master Chief back. The studio started modestly with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, the HD remake of the first Halo game, before moving on to the main event: Halo 4....

It’s a well-known fact that the Halo franchise is among Microsoft’s most beloved exclusives, and if you’re an Xbox gamer you’ve likely played them all. However, there was one title, released earlier this year, that wasn’t an Xbox exclusive but a Windows 8 mobile exclusive: Halo: Spartan Assault. Due to strong consumer demand, however, Microsoft has decided to port Halo: Spartan Assault to their newest console, the Xbox One. Moreover, that updated version of the mobile title will be available on December 24th....

“It was originally planned that Hawkeye [and Kate Bishop] were supposed to be echo fighters, like they were supposed to be clones, but that idea was quickly thrown out the window” Keano Raubun, narrative designer for Marvel’s Avengers, tells me. “We said ‘okay no, let’s realise Hawkeye is his own person, a really good character with his own skill set. All the animations and everything are all unique for Hawkeye.”...

We already knew Mortal Kombat X would find success thanks to the hype generated by developer NetherRealm Studios during their marketing push for the game. However, we didn’t expect to hear that Mortal Kombat X is the best-selling game in the series…at least not so soon. Nevertheless, that’s exactly the case, at least according to Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon. Boon took to Twitter to publicly thank all those who have been playing Mortal Kombat X for their support of the developer and the game and for “making Mortal Kombat X the biggest launch in MK history....

The Sony E3 2014 press conference last night had an interesting pace that kicked off with some crazy Destiny action then shifted things down a notch in the middle before returning to the big guns at the end for an Uncharted 4 trailer. Although many gamers ended up complaining about the shift away from playable content during the middle of the conference, comic fans in the crowd experienced a moment nearly a decade in the making when Brian Michael Bendis took the stage to reveal some big news....

Although the first Resident Evil: Revelations wasn’t a breakout hit for the franchise, it was the best the series has looked and played (arguably) since RE 4. So, it is for that very reason that fans are greatly anticipating the release of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 on current-gen, last-gen, and PC. Since Resident Evil: Revelations 2’s unveiling, Capcom has kept firm details to a minimum. We know that, as part of Game Informer’s cover story, the title will become more and more clear as the month goes on, but the more pressing stuff is still a mystery....

When SimCity was released back in February, it became one of the most controversial game releases to date. It was a polarising release, giving the series a visual upgrade with gameplay tweaks, but it came at the cost of an anti-consumer always-online component which became a noose when the game experienced major connection problems at launch. Since then, EA and Maxis have regained control of their servers and have been talking about making the game offline compatible, as well as allowing user generated content (but not bigger cities)....

After weeks and months of speculation and waiting, Sony finally confirmed its first big PS5 game event for next week, June 4th. While this is in no small part due to the appeal of the charmingly intelligent protagonist, Nathan Drake, it should also be noted that these games tap into the adventurous spirit of exploration in a way not seen since the release of Tomb Raider. Exploring the tombs and distant locales in an Uncharted game feels real....
