If you’re a major fan of Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, also known as PUBG, the library of games on the Nintendo Switch might feel somewhat alien to look at. With all the platformers and Nintendo’s first-party titles filling the eShop, it can be exceptionally difficult to find games that feel reminiscent of the modern parent of the battle royale genre. Many people will just tell PUBG Switch players to just play Fortnite, but this is hardly a good recommendation for people who love PUBG’s open-world survival aspects, the more competitive environment, or the realistic weapon and combat strategies involved....

Amnesia is one of those games that set a trend and created a sub-genre. When it comes to horror, this is the game that most people think of when the horror game makes you feel completely defenseless. Amnesia is also a game that plays around with your senses and never lets you feel like you’ve reached a moment in which you are completely safe. Many games tried to recreate that feeling that the Amnesia series brought for the first time to those who played it, feeling scared, defenseless, and yet having to be brave to find a solution....

Having departed Ubisoft in 2010 to head up the creative direction at THQ, former Assassin’s Creed creative director Patrice Desilets found himself in familiar (i.e., murky/tenuous/quite possibly awkward) waters when, following THQ’s bankrupcy and full-scale asset sell-off earlier this year, Ubisoft acquired THQ Montreal in January and brought Desilets back under its wing. Today, the publisher has reportedly fired Desilets from his position at the company, and the renown designer is vowing to fight back hard....

It was clear that Assassin’s Creed 3 wouldn’t be slowing the momentum of the series, and now the next release, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has been leaked and officially confirmed by Ubisoft. We still await official details from the studio, but from what’s been leaked thus far, Black Flag will be set in the Caribbean Sea circa 1715, with a brand new ‘part-time pirate’ protagonist. Since the brand new protagonist fans were promised is a maritime Assassin living just decades before the events of AC3, reports have surfaced claiming that the new lead is in fact Edward Kenway, grandfather of Assassin Connor Kenway (and father of Templar Haytham Kenway)....

While the jury is still out on the upcoming Frostbite 2 powered, free-to-play and online-only reboot of Command & Conquer, longtime fans (and total newcomers) have one huge collection of the already-released franchise installments to keep their time and/or introduce them to the series. In anticipation for the release of the now-without-a-campaign Commander & Conquer by BioWare Victory and Electronic Arts, PC gamers can pick up Command & Conquer The Ultimate Collection - a package that includes all 17 games (even that first-person shooter one!...

The path that EA Sports UFC has taken to release has not been a smooth one; when UFC President Dana White sought to launch a partnership with EA’s sports simulation studios, he didn’t like the response given. That led to the creation of THQ’s Undisputed series, followed soon after (once mixed martial arts had broken into the mainstream) by EA Sports MMA. THQ’s bankruptcy may have been what brought the two companies together, but you won’t find any harsh words these days....

EA Sports has just unleashed a new trailer for FIFA 13 that unfortunately doesn’t show off any new gameplay improvements or nifty features, but does show how the game will represent Manchester City’s new home uniforms. These home jerseys, or kits as they’re referred to in the same parts of the world that still call it football, are of a snazzy light blue variety and feature a nice wealth of brand advertising — a given on nearly ever mid to top level team’s kit....

For a publisher who puts out as many games and sequels as Ubisoft does, it’s shocking that fans of Tom Clancy games have been waiting over five years for the next game in the Ghost Recon series. Perhaps it’s because of that long wait, Ubisoft is doing everything in their power to turn the game’s release unto a multimedia event. Not only is the franchise coming back with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier next week, but with it comes the beta for the Ghost Recon Commander facebook game and the full launch of the Ghost Recon Network - a platform to be used by all future Ghost Recon titles....

To say that it’s not been a very good time for PS4 and Xbox One gamers as of late would be an understatement. While Battlefield 4’s buggy entrails have been frustrating current gen gamers for an entire year, Alien: Isolation, Driveclub and Assassin’s Creed: Unity are the newest additions to the poor form club. It’s these launch problems that players would hope that Grand Theft Auto V would avoid. Highly anticipated, the current-gen re-release of last year’s mega hit brings with it new cars, graphics and music to encourage repeat buyers....

The secrets, lies, and misdirection surrounding The Phantom Pain might be resolved sooner than we think — or at least that’s what a recent tease from popular Japanese magazine Famitsu suggests. According to the trade, the next issue of will feature “something surprising for Metal Gear Solid fans.” Now this doesn’t necessarily mean the whole cloak and dagger operation behind The Phantom Pain, and its developer Moby Dick Studio, will be revealed, but that seems likely given the state of things....

The Mortal Kombat series has always been known for its guts, gore, and stunning levels of violence, and Mortal Kombat X has pushed it to the limit making its brutalities and fatalities even more extreme. While using these moves is thrilling and satisfying for the player, it’s also exciting to see them revealed for the first time. Fans of the returning character Mortal Kombat character Tanya have been eagerly awaiting to see more than what little was shown in the teaser trailer for the Kombat Pack....

While snowboarding video games of the past have tended to focus on the more thrill-inducing and trickier aspects of the sport, it can’t be forgotten that high speeds and high mountains often spell disaster. Travis Rice, professional boarder and all-around adrenaline junkie is on hand in the latest trailer for the upcoming SSX to remind players of just how deadly his calling can be. While SSX may have dropped the ‘Deadly Descents’ from its name for marketing reasons, the death-defying challenges, avalanches and battles with the elements haven’t gone anywhere....

It may be another year or so until the next wave of Star Wars games hit, but fans will be able to enjoy some of the classic SW titles very soon. That’s thanks to a new partnership between GOG.com and Disney that is set to bring some 30 games to the digital distribution platform. For right now, though, GOG is only prepared to reveal that both Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: TIE Fighter are slated to hit their virtual storefronts soon....

Game announcements and leaks about upcoming titles tend to be pretty typical as E3 approaches, and 2015 is no exception. Later this week, Ghost Games will unveil a new Need for Speed title, while a footage of Microsoft’s poorly kept secret, Gears of War Remastered, appeared online a few days ago. That’s only the tip of the iceberg, too - fans have a lot to look forward to at this year’s show....

Fans of first-person shooters were hoping for game-changing things from Respawn Entertainment, led by the minds behind Modern Warfare. When Titanfall was revealed to be bringing massive mechs, jetpacks and wall-running to the standard online multiplayer experience, the wait seemed like it would be more than worth it. Since then though, the developers at Respawn have shown that they’re just as interested in defying expectations as living up to them. Now they’re urging their fans to be patient before passing judgement on Titanfall - even if they have concerns over the game’s restrictions....

Long ago, when the mere idea of Final Fantasy VII Remake was but a dream, there existed the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. A meta-series dedicated specifically to expanding the lore, characters, plot, and themes present in Final Fantasy VII, the Compilation consisted of a range of titles greatly varying in quality. All the same, the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII genuinely enriched the world of the original game– something Square Enix clearly recognizes with the remake....

Deus Ex is considered by many to be one of the greatest games ever made, and it’s easy to see why this is the case. The game was way ahead of its time when it was released, and some might argue that it still is. Its gameplay choices and innovation are still echoed to this day, with the immersive sim genre, in particular, being heavily inspired by the strides this title took in the gaming community....

There are so many inspirations that can be seen in Pokémon designs. There are simpler designs based off of animals like Mightyena, Butterfree and Ursaring. There are designs based off of everyday objects like Klefki and Polteageist. There are Pokémon that take inspiration from every walk of life, from plant life to martial artists to weather. One area of inspiration is from mythical creatures. There are already some notable Pokémon inspired from mythology such as Absol and Ninetales....

When one thinks about RPGs, they usually imagine epic adventures players take months to go through. The average length of these games ranges from anywhere between thirty and sixty hours. Open-world RPGs can go well over one hundred hours depending on how much time one wishes to spend in a particular world doing side quests. The ten RPGs listed below are on the opposite end of the spectrum. While some of them still tell epic stories, they all boast surprisingly short runtimes....

Sony’s PlayStation had a wide range of stellar fighting games. But according to Metacritic, there were some stinkers too! Regardless, the PS1 was an industry darling. It was home to video games that eventually established themselves as proper franchises, like Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken and Resident Evil. Publishers and developers generally put on their A-game when developing games for this platform. However, not everyone got the memo. When it came to fighting games, there were stellar titles like Tekken 3 and Street Fighter Alpha 3....
