The console produced some of the best games ever made, some of which have gone on to become even greater series or others that have been re-released on later consoles. Microsoft recently revealed the Xbox Series X’s price and release date, with the next-generation console launching on November 10 for $499. Anyone interested in getting an Xbox Series X console on launch day will want to make sure that they pre-order as soon as they can when pre-orders go live on September 22. In the meantime, the reveal of the Xbox Series X release date was accompanied by a number of launch titles being confirmed for the next-generation system as well....

Despite what gamers may or may not think, Call of Duty: Ghosts is a big step forward for the franchise. From improved visuals, to a more refined multiplayer, to an entirely new campaign, Call of Duty: Ghosts gives fans plenty of reasons to be excited. One of those improvements for this year’s iteration involves a new Clans system, which gives groups of players even more ways to interact, coordinate, and play online....

The official Destiny site contains details on the three classes of Guardian, which are pretty much the RPG standard. There’s the Titan (warrior), a gun-loving descendent of those who first built the Wall. The second Guardian of choice is the Warlock (mage), who has mastered the “arcane energies” of the Traveler and is motivated by a search for further knowledge. Finally there’s the Hunter (rogue), a former outlaw and fortune hunter whose old ways are about to change....

Although consumers seem happy enough to snap them up (as demonstrated by The Last of Us: Remastered’s chart topping) the topic of PS4 and Xbox One re-releases is a divisive one. On one hand people enjoy the fresh lick of paint and the DLC that’s often bundled with the re-releases, but on the other people question whether it’s right that we should have to pay full price for a game with updated visuals....

The growth of the independent video games market has led to a number of creators stepping away from the AAA development model. Sometimes, this can happen in-house, with publisher Ubisoft allowing its developers to work on personal projects such as Grow Home and Child of Light, and Obsidian taking a trip back to its RPG roots with the fantastic Pillars of Eternity. Other times, developers have stepped away from larger companies to form their own studios and gain more creative freedom....

Mass Effect 3’s Kinect controls, which utilizes player voices to execute commands, has been touted as a worthy addition to BioWare’s action RPG. It may have not however, even made it into the franchise’s third installment as it happened “almost by accident.” The development team weren’t initially planning on implementing Kinect controls to Mass Effect 3, but after a programmer experimented with the idea, BioWare recognized the opportunity to integrate Kinect support into the game....

Even though it has taken three whole games, Fem Shep, the female version of Commander Shepard that countless gamers use to play through their Mass Effect adventures, is finally getting the attention she deserves. While, previously, marketing has been relegated to focusing on the male version of Commander Shepard we have come to be familiar with, BioWare has made a big push to place Fem Shep right alongside him for Mass Effect 3....

Mortal Kombat X has been in the news quite a bit this week with various leaks and rumors and a brand new story trailer being released which centered around series veterans Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade – and earlier today the first character in the Kombat Pack was revealed to be Jason Voorhees. As NetherRealm Studio’s flagship fighting franchise nears its release date, information about the roster and the game have been releasing at a constant pace....

In the past 18 months, many high profile games have been hit with serious multiplayer issues. Driveclub’s multiplayer was down for over two weeks when it launched, The Crew didn’t let players form crews at first, Halo: The Master Chief Collection had matchmaking troubles right up until last month, and Battlefield 4’s problems were so bad that several EA shareholders sued the publisher. Hoping to avoid a similar fate is Rainbow Six Siege, a game that was designed around multiplayer gameplay....

Whether or not the Resident Evil series still qualifies as survival-horror can be debated at length, but regardless of if its recent emphasis on action, the next core game in the series, Resident Evil 6, is one of our most anticipated games of the year. For fans still on board with the direction Capcom is taking with Resident Evil 6 - and for those who can forgive them for Operation Raccoon City - RE6 is coming with a Collector’s Edition....

After WandaVision, Marvel fans are now waiting for the release of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Just over a week before the six-episode series premieres on Disney Plus, Marvel Studios has unveiled four new character posters, increasing the hype for the much-awaited show. The posters feature Anthony Mackie as The Falcon/Sam Wilson, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, and Daniel Brühl as Zemo....

To date, Bucky Barnes has been in eight different MCU projects, and I still don’t feel as if I know that much about him. Two of those were uncredited cameos - Ant-Man and Black Panther - but another was a TV show where he was a titular character, so it all balances out. He’s not had much in the way of character development so much as he’s had a story happen around him....

One of the more appealing aspects of video games that tell a good story is their use of real-world situations, events, and people to further the story of the game. Seamlessly blending fact with fiction is a great way to keep gamers involved in the plot, due to the familiarity with events going on around them. For example, Mass Effect puts gamers into the outer reaches of space, but the vehicle for getting there (discovery of ruins on Mars, Charon actually being a mass relay and not a moon) seems plausible enough....

The first couple of years of this budding console generation has seen both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 have their respective libraries fleshed out by remasters of well-loved titles from previous systems. It seems like this trend isn’t about to dry up just yet, as rumours persist that the Uncharted trilogy is to receive the same treatment. Fans have long speculated that the first three Uncharted games would be a perfect fit for the practice....
