It hasn’t been the best week for futuristic extraterrestiral-hunting first-person shooters (see: Aliens: Colonial Marines) nor, for that matter, Electronic Arts-published first-person shooters (see: the continuing fallout from Medal of Honor’s cancellation). But as a conflation of the two, Crysis 3 – one of our most anticipated games of 2013 – looks to reverse the trend when it releases next week, on February 19, carrying the high expectations of Crytek’s venerable franchise and the high-grade technology of CryEngine 3....

While Destiny received plenty of complaints for its supposed lack of content, that hasn’t prevented the game from growing a sizeable community of highly dedicated Guardians. These players are dead set on continually proving their mastery of the title, one-upping each other’s achievements as they go. It’s no secret that the biggest challenges within Destiny are its Raids, and as such they’ve become something of a battleground for fans keen to prove their mettle....

Hot on the heels of EA Sports’ reveal of Wayne Rooney as a global FIFA 12 cover athlete, the developer/publisher have released a new trailer focusing on what some notable sites are saying about the game. After a great showing at this year’s E3, FIFA 12 solidified its deserved spot as the must-have soccer title year-to-year. After getting our hands on the game, it was plain to see that this was a conscious effort to step away from the bells and whistles of the FIFA franchise (there are those two) and keep the focus on the soccer....

The character first appeared in a 1984 animated series and was turned into an action figure soon after. Lady Jaye was also introduced into the G.I. Joe comics in 1985 and their first on-screen appearance was in the 2013 feature film G.I. Joe: Retaliation, portrayed by Adrianne Palicki. There is no confirmation on whether Palicki will be reprising her role as Jaye or if the studio will be bringing in a new face....

About a month after the alpha footage of the game went viral on YouTube, garnering a large amount of anticipation for its release, a new trailer for Coffee Stain Studios’ Goat Simulator has been released, and it’s hysterical. “We hired a full team of free-to-play/mobile experts and psychologists” said Anton Westbergh, the CEO of Coffee Stain Studios. “They all agreed this idea was stupid, so we decided to ship it!”...

It’s certainly a hectic day at BioWare: co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk have decided to retire from the games industry and pursue new challenges. Their sudden departure will no doubt worry some fans, but Aaron Flynn, General Manager of BioWare Edmonton & Montreal, brought out some news that should make Mass Effect players happy: not only is the studio working on a new, post-Shepard trilogy Mass Effect title, but single-player ME3 DLC featuring Omega is coming to consoles and Origin this fall....

After five years on the PC market, and over three full years of “official” availability across multiple platforms, Minecraft remains one of the most important and most played projects of the last decade. Gamers with varying levels of experience, from all walks of life, have joined together in the world of Minecraft to play, to build, and sometimes, to give each other grief. The game has evolved over the years, refining the experience with gameplay improvements, bug fixes, new features, and DLC content packs - providing new assets, and subsequently new reasons, to continue pushing the boundaries of the ever-changing experience....

Every so often, a game company will make a mistake. Whether it be rushing to get a new game out and the release being incomplete, or promoting a title that can’t measure up (Homefront), or even simply making a promise they can’t keep (Fable). Mistakes have and will continue to be made. Many agree that Capcom’s decision to make it so players were not able to delete their Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D save files was a pretty big mistake, but those people will be happy to know that such a decision probably won’t be made again....

There’s a case to be made for striking while the iron is hot, so for those who subscribe to the idea of video games being regularly tossed aside for a newer release, Resident Evil 4: Ultimate HD Edition is a strange proposition. Critics (and fans) have maintained that the game is still one of the best entries in the series, and now a new audience is being brought into the fold....

Although Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games had hoped to launch their highly anticipated Dogfighting Module, Arena Commander, later today it appears that will no longer be the case. Studio head Chris Roberts cites a number of potentially game-breaking bugs as still preventing a stable launch, and therefore made the decision to push the module’s release by a few days. No doubt the Arena Commander delay will come as a massive disappointment to Star Citizen fans, especially considering the module has already been delayed once before....

Considering that some World of Warcraft players hit level 100 within 24 hours of the Warlords of Draenor expansion’s launch, it’s a safe bet that many of our readers are max level by now or plan to get there shortly over the holidays. The game has been out for a full month, which is more than enough time to ding (level up) ten times even if you’ve just been questing casually....

Created by Gary520, it would be unfair to call the project a mod, since the latest trailer shows that it offers more environments and gameplay than some modern console releases....

Halo might be one of the most influential shooters of all time, but that doesn’t mean it’s flawless. There are certain elements of the long-standing franchise that make no sense. The gaps in logic aren’t huge, but they’re humorous nonetheless. Even loyal fans of the series have made countless memes poking fun at the games. Now that the twelfth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series is out, the franchise runs the risk of growing stale before its conclusion. It’s hard to understate the RPG classic and cultural phenom that is Pokémon. After all, the franchise has seen tons of successful and enjoyable games, along with an entertaining TV show, toys, and more. Yet, far lesser-known is Enix’s underrated spin-off on its Dragon Quest series, which melds that RPG classic with Pokémon-style monster hunting and catching. Though these franchises went in two very different directions in terms of popularity, 2000’s Dragon Warrior Monsters flew under the radar as a cool Pokémon alternative....

Sixth months after launch and Genshin Impact is still going strong. Google Play’s Best Game of 2020 has already netted developer miHoYo close to a billion dollars.
