Fallout has been around the block a few times, and every few years we are treated to a brand new entry and a gaggle of new adventures, characters, weapons, and tales to tell. With the newest entry in the series, Fallout 76, slated to release this November, we are soon to be privy to a whole new adventure and all the joys that come with it. Of course, everyone has their favorite parts of a game and I would absolutely be lying to you if I said that collecting weapons for a wide variety of end-dealing isn’t my favorite....

In the past, a new Battlefield game launch would have gone by with general excitement from its fans and nothing more. Now, those early hours have come under intense scrutiny, as players watch and see whether the new game’s servers can hold under the oncoming pressure. Unfortunately for Battlefield Hardline, it appears that pressure was slightly too great on Xbox One, with gamers reporting connection problems on the platform. Electronic Arts acknowledged the issues on Twitter saying that the development team is looking into them and hopes to have them fixed as soon as possible....

For most video game creators, “fun” is an essential element of everything they make. Most creators work long hours to convey fun to their (hopefully) widespread audiences and to have their work described as such. And in fact, most video game boxes would give a thesaurus entry for the three-letter noun/adjective a run for its money. But as is well-known, there are most creators… and then there’s David Cage. The quixotic founder of Quantic Dream is renown for having his own industry prerogative - Cage already claimed that he doesn’t care if his games received as art - and his most recent title, 2010’s Heavy Rain, was hardly concerned with the popular tropes of fun, action, and all-out excitement (yet it still received a perfect score in our Heavy Rain review)....

There are plenty of reasons why the Borderlands series is so well-loved. The franchise’s iconic cell-shaded visual style and light-hearted tone sets it apart from plenty of its stern and dour competition, whilst the co-operative gunplay is a truck-load of must-play fun among friends. Grand Theft Auto 5 first launched on September 17th, 2013, on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Considering the massive success that was Grand Theft Auto 4 and the previous games in the series, everyone expected the fifth game in the franchise to perform even better. Long story short, it did. Eventually, the game was announced for PS4 and Xbox One as well, enhanced with new features and upgraded graphics. For a while, it didn’t appear that a PC version was ever going to be released, but it was finally announced, with a seven-disc retail version as well as a digital version released through Steam....

After devoting a whopping 50 hours to hunting down a shiny Regieleki in Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC, one Redditor has had their hopes dashed by the notorious Joy-Con drift. “It just kind of broke me,” Juviatail tells TheGamer. This is understandable: having your long-coveted reward stolen from you by faulty hardware after 45-50 hours of rinsing and repeating the same encounter must sting pretty bad. Juviatail initially took to Reddit to share a clip of the encounter, which you can check out for yourself below....

It seems like just yesterday, hockey fans around the world were ready to take the plunge into the brand new, physics-driven gameplay of NHL 12. The developers at EA Sports aim to take gameplay improvements even further this year, introducing what they refer to as the “Next Gameplay Revolution” with NHL 13. The revolution begins with skating, simulated realistically for the first time in the history of the series. Pursuing a higher sense of realism than players have experienced previously, the game of hockey has most certainly changed....

As most video games are part of a wider universe or an existing franchise, few of them end up being better than the original game. All too often, sub-par sequels get phoned in on an annual basis, with many games on this list even falling victim to that method, but every now and then a truly memorable sequel is born out of the mythology of the first. It takes a great team of self-aware developers to understand what worked about a game and what didn’t, and how to implement those in to a sequel....

It’s strange to think that the PlayStation 3 is now two generations old, and just contemplating that fact is sure to make many a gamer feel old. Dynasty Warriors is a series known for its oddball humor and over-the-top action. The same is true for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. It may not be as wacky as the previous title, since that crossed over many universes, but there are still some laughs packed inside. They’re masochists who no longer know the difference between pleasure and pain when it comes to video games, much like their Souls-like gamer cousins. Suffice to say, Monster Hunter: World is a stressful game and finding ways to lighten up the torture you do to yourself while playing is can save your sanity....

Pokemon Diamond & Pearl remakes are coming and, while it’s much too early to have any real facts on it, there’s a lot of room for speculation based on patterns of games in the past few years.
