The evolution of the RPG genre throughout the years, from Dungeons and Dragons predecessor Chainmail to modern games like The Elder Scrolls franchise, has been impressive to say the least. Games that started off as little more than chess pieces and dice have become immense worlds filled with stories and characters unimaginable to the early pioneers of the genre. Either due to recent social restrictions, or just a lack of players, the transition from pen-to-paper to digital code has become a necessity for a lot of us, whether that means finding ways to emulate the tabletop experience through the web, or finding new ways to satisfy the gaming urge....

After multiple delays, No Time to Die is finally hitting theaters in the UK and U.S., marking Daniel Craig’s final appearance as super spy James Bond, the end of an era for one of the more beloved 007s. It’s still too early to say in which direction the storied franchise will go next, but now is the perfect time to look back at the history of 007 in video games, especially as Hitman studio IO Interactive prepares to bring James Bond back to gaming!...

One of the biggest points of anticipation for Sony’s PlayStation 5 “The Road to PS5” technical presentation was backward compatibility. Questions regarding just how far Sony would go with the PS5 have lingered for months now. Unfortunately, Sony ultimately didn’t reveal any previously unknown backward compatibility plans. PS4 backward compatibility is in, but previous generations remain just a rumor. However, Mark Cerny did touch on some of Sony’s plans for PS4 backward compatibility in a bit more detail....

It may be one of the most expensive video game productions in recent memory (or ever), but Destiny is now also one of the most successful. Activision has today revealed their recently released shooter is the biggest new video game franchise launch in history. According to the publisher, more than $500 million worth of Destiny copies (regular, Limited, and Ghost editions) have been shipped to retailers. Obviously, it’s worth pointing out that these are only “shipped” numbers and not “sold through” numbers for Destiny....

At the PS4 reveal event back in February, Blizzard revealed that Diablo 3 was finally making the jump to consoles. Shortly thereafter, at E3 2013, Microsoft announced the dungeon-crawling title was also headed to the Xbox 360, and that both versions would hit in September. Not to be outdone, Sony is also offering Diablo 3 on the PS4, their next-gen platform. However, considering that console won’t have hit store shelves by then, most figured the next-gen version would release in November....

Thanks to the rise in popularity of e-sports, MOBAs (multiplayer online battle areas) like DOTA2 and League of Legends have seen a massive rise in popularity. Die-hard fans of the genre have likely placed their MOBA flags in the camps of one of those two genre-defining titles, but that hasn’t stopped the competition from attempting to recapture the magic with new spins on the genre. Rather than slapping a new coat of paint on the regular MOBA hero archetypes, the folks at Wyrmbyte have decided to place the heroes on the backs of fire-breathing dragons....

Microsoft fans may recall Crytek’s Kinect-infused hack and slash action title, Ryse, from when it was shown off all the way back at E3 2011 (view the trailer above). Despite enthusiasm Crytek has since gone silent on the game, perhaps taking the time to focus more on their next “spectacular” secret project. Apparently, that’s not the case. Rather than being cancelled or postponed, the latest rumors claim that both Ryse and Forza Motorsport 5 will be released as launch titles for Microsoft’s Xbox 720/Durango....

Ever since Microsoft acquired the rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the celebrated series. Microsoft has prepared to cement Gears as one of their most important IPs, entrusting the franchise with the talented people at the studio now known as The Coalition, as they celebrate the history of Gears of War as well as look to the future of the series....

Alongside the announcement of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, ChAIR Entertainment revealed Infinity Blade 3. Not only that, ChAIR revealed that the game will launch next week on the iTunes App Store. While the existence of Infinity Blade 3 shouldn’t come as a surprise — a resume posting outing the sequel surfaced last month — the fact that ChAIR is ready to roll with the game so soon took us off guard....

After the success that was last year’s reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone when a follow up game was officially announced at E3 2014 early this week. Just days before the events of E3 kicked off, information leaked that two new Tomb Raider domains had been registered. The first, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was for the expected follow up to last year’s rebooted original story, but the second, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, is a sequel to a slightly lesser known adventure....

EA Sports had a rough start to this generation with its signature line of sports titles, but for the most part they’ve rallied: Madden, NCAA Football, FIFA, Tiger Woods - despite inauspicious releases over the closing years of the Bush administration, they’ve steadily evolved into quality, entertaining annual showcases of the sports they simulate. The same can’t be said for the developer’s NBA franchise; it’s still in desperate need of a rebound....

Resistance 3 didn’t exactly have the smoothest launch, as the game was accompanied with a huge day-one patch that did very little to alleviate the issues plaguing the game’s online portion. While many of the issues regarding latency and frame-rate have been sorted out, Insomniac still plans to support the title, and their latest 1.05 patch is going to bring some much needed to changes to the multiplayer. To start, the patch will bring a reduced number of leapers spawned when players use the Leaper Corpse ability....

THQ has more than a fair share of projects on its plate, what with Saints Row: The Third fast approaching its release date on November 15, 2011. The publisher also has WWE 12 slated for November 22, UFC Undisputed 3 next February, and Darksiders 2 at some undisclosed point after that. That wraps around to the announcement of a launch date for THQ’s new MMORPG, Warhammer 40k Dark Millennium Online.
