Although it’s been out of the spotlight for a few years now, the rhythm genre is poised to make a big splash in 2015. Both Rock Band and Guitar Hero are set to release new iterations – their first in several years – for current-gen platforms. With that excitement, however, comes the potential for hardware shortages, at least as far as Rock Band 4 is concerned. According to developer Harmonix and co-publisher Mad Catz, gamers should pre-order their copies of Rock Band 4 as soon as they go live in order to ensure those gamers don’t miss out....

Although games have not become more expensive in the last decade or so, gamers’ perception of their value has certainly changed. Where a retail release used to feel worth the money with just a short campaign and maybe a chance to replay at a harder difficulty, now it seems like if a game doesn’t include single player, multiplayer, and co-op then it’s not worth the money. Horror games always seem to be exploring new ways to scare players, whether through the tension of gameplay or the soundtrack. Just as essential is the character design. Hulking monsters and grotesque creatures are common fare, but there isn’t a singular mold for which horror game villains fit. They come in all shapes and sizes. Thanks to experimentation and creativity, some select horror games have performed a 180 with character designs and made a few enemies much more preposterous than gamers might expect....

In October 2006, Rockstar showed that complaints about Grand Theft Auto’s content didn’t faze them. Rockstar’s Bully sparked protests outside of Rockstar’s Manhattan headquarters. The most infamous complaint was undoubtedly from activist Jack Thompson, despite his never having seen or played the game. These concerns were soon put to bed when the game was released, as Bully turned out to be more fun and comical than people first thought. The game did have mild violence and some offensive jokes, but it was far from being the outrageous game that some feared....

The Mass Effect series is filled from head-to-toe with many different characters that have stuck with gamers forever. Bioware provided players with characters that really helped to bring the out best in the RPG series by making them feel like real-life people. With the remaster coming soon, gamers will be able to either revisit the trilogy or meet these characters for the first time. One of the more popular characters in the series is the asari doctor, Liara T’Soni....

Although the Templars are typically portrayed as the villains of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, it’s difficult to ignore some of the many sins committed by the assassins in their quest to bring peace to the world. Things started off slowly, but, over the years, the Brotherhood has racked up a lengthy list of crimes which grows longer still with every new game. The open-ended nature of The Elder Scrolls games is partly what makes them so special. Players can create any character they wish, do what they desire, and explore the hundreds of locations dotted throughout Tamriel. Skyrim does this exceptionally well thanks to its fluid leveling system and streamlined gear. That amount of choice can result in some small roadblocks throughout a new player’s journey, though. There is no incorrect way of playing an Elder Scrolls title, although there are a few ways players can make the game harder on themselves....
