With a long-running series like Mortal Kombat which has various spinoffs and a number of different writers having a hand in the games’ creation, there were bound to be some inconsistencies and plot holes. Mortal Kombat 11 implemented a clever way to resolve these varying conflicts by explaining that a villain has been manipulating and rebooting the various timelines over and over again to create the perfect timeline. Unfortunately, this explanation and the story of Mortal Kombat 11 introduces a number of new inconsistencies and plot holes that weren’t explained when the final credits rolled across the screen....

Last week, Overhaul Games announced that it is developing enhanced editions of Baldur’s Gate and its sequel. The news got quite a positive response, and no wonder – the Baldur’s Gate games are among the most beloved PC RPGs ever. Even though Batman: Arkham Origins developer Warner Bros. Montreal is taking over from Rocksteady Studios’ lead, they are not afraid to carve their own path. Rather than creating a direct follow-up to Arkham City, WB Montreal is heading in the opposite direction and telling a story that pre-empts both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. According to a new rumor, Warner Bros. Montreal is also introducing multiplayer into Batman: Arkham Origins, a first for the franchise....

For many, the frequency of video game death is a make-or-break notion; die once, fair enough. Die twice, frustration sets in. Fans excited for the highly-anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong film will be interested in a recently unveiled shot-for-shot LEGO remake of the movie’s trailer. The alternative version uses audio from the original trailer and features an explosive battle between LEGO King Kong and LEGO Godzilla. The upcoming MonsterVerse film is the sequel to 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Adam Wingard’s sci-fi action-adventure cast includes Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Rebecca Hall (The Town), and Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta)....

Leading up to Electronic Arts’ E3 2015 Press Conference, there had been tons of rumors and speculation about what kind of gameplay could be expected from Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. Activision announced today that the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 will support dedicated servers, just as the original Modern Warfare did. What this means is that Activision is giving players the ability to host their own servers, allowing players full control. Modern Warfare 2 employed a matchmaking system called IW.net, and while Black Ops allowed players to use dedicated servers, it used a more restrictive system. The use of dedicated servers in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gave players the option(s) to modify the game however they want....

If you are missing the chibi aesthetic of classic GameBoy games but don’t want to have to deal with the handheld’s notorious backlight, Picontier could be the game for you. The “slow life” RPG is due to launch on Steam before the end of the year, and its design is giving us major Pokemon Red and Blue vibes. Publisher Flyhigh Works and developers Skipmore and Kan-Kikuchi recently announced that Picontier will launch on PC via Steam Early Access before the year is out, featuring both English and simplified Chinese language support on top of the original Japanese....

While the standards may have been raised for open world RPGs in recent years - with Dragon Age Inquisition earning particular praise for outdoing prior installments - there’s no question that fans of the genre are anticipating The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt like no other.
