Yesterday was a big day for Mortal Kombat X players. The first guest character for the game was added in the form of the brutal horror film icon Jason Voorhees, and PC players were also looking forward to a patch that would fix the game’s online connectivity problems. The online connectivity problems with Mortal Kombat X on PC have been so bad since launch that NetherRealm Studios made the decision to gift PC players with 10,000 free Krypt Koins in the first patch....

Today Insomniac Games announced that their highly anticipated shooter Resistance 3 has gone gold. Insomniac has been working on the title for longer than usual - with an extended development cycle to insure that they don’t make the same mistakes they did with Resistance 2. The hard work looks like it is paying off, as Resistance 3 could be the high point in the franchise so far. Many Resistance fans may be wondering how the game could have gone gold if their is still a beta test going on, does this mean that the Resistance 3 beta is just a demo and not a real beta?...

It may not have been an anticipated game from the start, but when Ryse: Son of Rome was unveiled at E3 2013, the flat-out staggering graphics awed crowds, proving that developer Crytek hadn’t lowered their standards one bit. But from the first look at gameplay, concerns arose over just how much control players would have over the cinematic action. The latest batch of gameplay videos are designed to prove that Ryse is far more than a chain of QTE’s, and erase any doubts that it will be one of the best-looking games available for Xbox One at launch....

Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us helped push the boundaries of video game storytelling. It gave the world two deeply beloved characters, introduced a gnarly infection, and painted a desperately beautiful realization of the post-apocalyptic world. So it was no wonder that The Last Of Us Part II was one of the most anticipated (and controversial) titles of all time. Sure, the haters tried to stir up some trouble, but most who played The Last Of Us Part II agreed: it’s brutal, it’s beautiful, and it tells a story with such intensity that it may leave players feeling shaken to their core....

2020 was a disastrous year for so many people, for reasons far and wide. One glimmer of hope the year brought, however, was that so many incredible games were released that year. The number of critically acclaimed games that were released in 2020 were so many that many found it difficult to pick just which game was the best of the year. Thankfully, 2021 seems to follow suit. Yakuza: Like A Dragon has been released, marking it as the first title in the series to release on launch day for Microsoft consoles and PC as well as Sony consoles, which held exclusivity for a long time. It’s also the first in the franchise to release for the new generation of consoles, with it already being available for the Xbox Series X and it is scheduled to release for PlayStation 5 in March....

Resident Evil 5 polarized longtime fans of the series with its action sensibilities. Regardless of how someone feels about it compared to the earlier survival horror titles, the cooperative mechanics are undeniably incredible. Players can go through the linear campaign from start to finish with a friend, either locally or online. In an age where many cooperative experiences are living titles, going through a traditional campaign with a definitive ending is almost refreshing....

Most Pokémon either retain their typing when they evolve or move from being a single-type to being a dual-type by adding one. However, there are a few Pokémon who have one of their types change. Players looking to use these Pokémon in a playthrough often have to readjust their understanding of the Pokémon’s type matchups and viability once their type changes. Others just find the typing of Pokémon fascinating, so watching some of them change types is a source of great interest....

Pokémon seems like such a tightly run ship that it feels like final designs and products have been locked in for ages. In recent years, fans have seen via leaks and other releases how vastly things can change before release. Many of the Pokémon designs change numerous times during the creation process and some of them get slight modifications, whereas others look alien to what was in the final release. It’s time to look at ten Pokémon who changed in terms of design before they were unveiled with the announcement of their existence....

Players seem to be loving Final Fantasy VII Remake and are enjoying the changes the developers have made to modernize the game. The action is more intense and players have a more active role in combat, all while maintaining the strategy elements from the original game. This can throw off fans who aren’t accustomed to the new game mechanics and newcomers to the series may be struggling with the more tactical aspects of party combat....

Few video game sequels are held in as high regard as Pokémon Gold & Silver. When it comes to the Pokémon franchise, Generation II is often considered the best by fans and often with good reason. Although the games feature a surprisingly low difficulty curve (especially in comparison to the genuinely challenging Red & Blue,) Gold & Silver improved on its predecessors where it mattered most. Johto is denser than Kanto was, there’s better Pokémon variety at play, the battle mechanics have been refined considerably, and even the story boasts a tighter written script with an emphasis on lore, world building, and character development that would define the rest of the series’ storytelling....

Fear of the unknown makes for great horror. That’s why aliens have been the perfect antagonists for movies and games for decades. And it would seem game developers especially have a strange fascination with extraterrestrials. Sure, there are alien-centric games like Dead Space out there. However, there are numerous references to alien encounters in games where aliens would be the last thing one would expect. Some are just a minor detail a gamer notices in passing, but others are full-on encounters of the third kind!...

In Nintendo’s brand-new Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players are sent to a deserted island to start a new life. From fishing, catching bugs and planting flowers, the island getaway offers a ton of new relaxing activities to take one’s mind off of real-world issues. One of the best ways to spend time in Animal Crossing, however, is designing and decorating one’s own island. This is also one of the major tasks the player must undertake as the game’s loose story progresses....

By now gamers have already read our Aliens: Colonial Marines review and watched our first impressions gameplay video, and found out that Gearbox Software’s latest is less than desirable.
