Most game series would consider themselves lucky to have their fourth entry even more anticipated than their second or third, but with fame comes high expectations. With Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, developer Ubisoft is giving players the third game following the same character, based upon the same combat and traversal, with a few added refinements. But is Assassin’s Creed: Revelations going to be a game that players remember as one that even better honed the basic principles of the series, or advanced into new territory for the franchise as a whole?...

Beginning a week ago, developer DICE had members of its Battlefield 4 team taking to the “The Road to Battlefield 4” blog to detail multiplayer features - first with Field Upgrades system and and then to changes to the classes and progression. This was in an effort to inform fans before launching a livestream and new announcements at Germany’s Gamescom event, the European equivalent to LA’s E3 expo. And new announcements is exactly what DICE and publisher Electronic Arts had, detailing Battlefield 4 Premium and listing the five DLC packs; announcing BF4 beta details and unveiling a new multiplayer map....

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have been given a large content drop with Season 1, with two new melee weapons added to the game. One of these two tools for close quarters combat is the Wakizashi Sword, which Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players can obtain through completion of an in-game challenge. Like the challenge tied to the Sledgehammer, the other melee weapon added in Season 1, players will need to complete a melee-related objective to get the Wakizashi Sword to unlock....

Capcom and Ninja Theory’s reboot of the Devil May Cry franchise with DmC is sure to turn off a lot of fans of the series. Gone are many of the elements fans had come to know and love about the franchise, replaced with combo-based sword and gun attacks, witty banter from our hero Dante, and some truly hideous sets of enemies. Wait a second, that sounds exactly like Devil May Cry....

Many console gamers may not see the motivation behind playing a two-year old game when it is re-released for PC, but the self-billed “PC master race” makes plenty of strong arguments for waiting (not always so patiently) for the port. Although lots of the arguments are centered around computing power and graphic enhancements, like the one’s showcased in Grand Theft Auto 5’s 60 FPS trailer, there is also the ability to manipulate PC games in a way that console releases don’t allow....

The Halo franchise has been the flagship series for Microsoft since it first launched alongside the original Xbox. Transforming the landscape of first-person shooters on consoles, when Halo: Combat Evolved first hit way back in 2001 it was a revelation. Nearly twelve years later the series continues to be one of the most popular franchises. Microsoft clearly has big plans for the series and is hoping that Master Chief can continue to be one of the faces of the Xbox One....

Many months after Scrolls entered a closed alpha to receive early feedback, developer Mojang Studios is now ready to place the game under a public beta - and at a reduced cost. The game, which was hit with a trademark lawsuit for its title, has been in development for just over a year now - and those who haven’t been included in the alpha will be eager to finally see Scrolls in action for themselves....

Bummer! Hopes for a Valentines day full of snow-blanketed gaming bliss have just gone right out the window, now that EA Sports has postponed the release of SSX from February 14 to February 28 in North America, March 2 everywhere else. Granted, two weeks isn’t a drastic delay, though after watching the brand new gameplay trailer for SSX, any wait at all seems much, much too long. It’s been a long road for SSX, from its underwhelming reveal on the 2010 Spike VGAs up to the triumphant announcement that RUN-D....

While SSX might have got off to a bad start with the Deadly Descents reveal during 2011’s Spike VGAs, EA is doing everything they can to correct that misstep – starting first with dropping the heavily Call of Duty influenced atmosphere. Along with a new direction, and a greater emphasis on the insane tricks that made SSX a household name, EA has put the franchise back on track, but also plans to bolster the experience with some cool new features....

Less than a week after the official launch of The Elder Scrolls Online, some players are already looking forward to add-on content, and it’s just over the horizon. Although there is an undeniably enormous world to explore in the core game, some of the more hardcore fans reached the level cap before the early access period had ended and they are geared up and ready for whatever is next to come....

Telltale Games may be one of the most unorthodox developers and publishers in the industry. Whereas many publishers ensure the public knows about the release of their game well in advance of launch day, Telltale seems to sneak in each and every time, cutting as close to release as possible. The same seems to ring true for The Wolf Among Us: Episode Two. Gamers already knew the game would be dropping in February, but thanks to a recent tweet on the official Telltale Games Twitter account, gamers now have the exact release dates for episode two of The Wolf Among Us, titled Smoke & Mirrors....

While it’s exciting that Assassin’s Creed’s developers are spicing up the aging formula of the franchise, the general sentiment of their faithful player base is that the newer games hardly feel like Assassin’s Creed. Ubisoft has certainly introduced tons of mechanics and systems from other games and made the latest Assassin’s Creed games—namely Origins and Odyssey—too dissimilar to the previous games.
