They say the only constant is change, but when it comes to major video game franchises, that’s not always the case. But when the first details on DmC: Devil May Cry arose, with a newly-redesigned protagonist Dante, the most die-hard fans weren’t so accepting. But as the hype grows with the release date approaching, maybe fans don’t have so much to worry about. The newest cinematic trailer for DmC continues the trend of the world being torn apart, with only Dante (still clinging to his ’emo’ style) standing to fight....

Depending on how you felt about BioWare’s latest RPG Dragon Age 2, the wait for any word on DLC or expansions has been hard to take for any number of reasons. If you loved the action-oriented combat and storytelling, then the months since release have left you aching for even more content to enjoy. If you couldn’t stand the changes made, then you’ve had a few months to cool off, and hope the DLC would correct those same mistakes....

The free-to-play market is the new hotness and no genre is shy about embracing the play4free model. Loadout is another competitor in this arena and it has a lot going for it. On the surface, it may appear like another clone of Team Fortress 2 or Monday Night Combat, but there’s a whole lot more going on in this game than meets the eye. We got to play the game at PAX East and we had a blast with what the developers at Edge of Reality created....

The fans of parkour have been heard loud and clear: Mirror’s Edge 2 is on its way. After the game was revealed via E3 2013 announcement trailer, DICE and EA have broken their silence, not holding back any of their hopes or excitement over the chance to revisit Faith, and the stark white city in which she resides. Although some might claim that Mirror’s Edge 2 should have been made long ago, it’s seeming less and less like the publisher and developer were testing the markets, and more and more like they were simply waiting for the industry to catch up to their ideas....

It’s time for another nice, long look at Need for Speed Most Wanted, courtesy of developer Criterion Games. Once again, it’s all but impossible to look at Most Wanted in action and not think of Burnout Paradise, though today’s trailer focuses on a mechanic that, for once, isn’t shared between the two games. In Burnout Paradise, accessing a new car meant first taking it down on the streets of Paradise City, then heading to the junk yard where the car would be waiting – for a price....

It’s no secret that Capcom’s latest Resident Evil game, Resident Evil 6, didn’t live up to expectations from either a gameplay or sales perspective. With the less than stellar reception received by the latest installment in the franchise, gamers have been wondering whether or not the series may be in need of a reboot. Oddly enough, it’s now evident that Capcom may have the same idea in mind — at the very least Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata is talking about the possibility of a reboot....

One of the best things that gamers have been playing this year is the first season of TellTale Games’ The Walking Dead. So far four of the five planned episodes have been released, and the developer has express interest in continuing the game after the current season has come to an end. While gamers have been enjoying their time helping (or hindering) other survivors in-game, some fans have been unable to partake in the video game adaptation to one of their favorite series, and that’s because it’s only been available via digital distribution....

Now that the alien occupying force of XCOM 2 has had twenty years to impact how humans live within their closely-controlled cities, it seems they have instituted a firm style of uniformity and cleanliness. For developer Firaxis Games this follow-up approach presents them with a new challenge. For the sequel, Firaxis has made the jump from hand-crafted maps to procedural generation in an attempt to solve the lack of variety the original game had....

Fans of Yakuza Sega’s iconic Japanese gangster series, have waited a long time to hear if the zombie-spin off Yakuza of The End would be coming stateside, and now it seems Sega has heard their pleas. Yakuza of the End will come to North America in 2012, but under the name Yakuza: Dead Souls and with all of the DLC from the Japanese release. Yakuza: Dead Souls places players in the Red Light District of Tokyo as they face off against hordes of the undead....

In Miles Morales, in the depths of Manhattan, one of time capsules players can find contains the green and black Wakandan flag. Though it isn’t the only time its seen in the game, as similar flags are on-site at the festival in Harlem too....

Each entry in the Fire Emblem series allows players to recruit a wide range of characters into their army. While there are many characters in each game that a player gains access to automatically, there are characters in each game that can only be recruited if specific requirements are met. While some characters have simple recruitments such as talking to that character with the protagonist or even just visiting a certain village, it is not always so simple....

Players in Watch Dogs take part in the fight against cTOS as a DedSec operative, saving civilians from the oppressive surveillance system and its agents. However, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs Legion takes this concept to the next level. This time, players expand DedSec into London, and this time they can recruit all of its citizens into DedSec’s cause. Essentially, players have 9-million potential agents to recruit and dismantle cTOS in the huge city....

Nintendo are one the most recognizable names in gaming, and are responsible for creating some of the most iconic franchises in the industry. However, as a Japanese-based company, not every game Nintendo has released has been released in the west. While more recently, the vast majority of Nintendo titles are released worldwide, throughout the ’80s, ’90s, and even the early 2000s, there were many games that never saw a release outside of Japan....

FromSoftware came to existence all the way back in 1986. They started off developing productivity software before moving on to game development in 1994. These days, FromSoftware is mostly known for the Dark Souls games or the recently released Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice but they weren’t always the triple-A developer they’re known as today and spent many of their early years toiling away in obscurity. Before perfecting the third-person hack-and-slash RPG, FromSoftware was known for creating unique, relatively low-budget games....

While plenty of people got to know Pokemon through the large variety of games, the anime also brought many into the franchise. Inconsistencies between video games and their anime adaptations aren’t new, which certainly applies to Pokemon as well. A good amount of these entries can’t learn things you’d think they would be able to. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it permits more freedom on the end of the writers and animators....

Although the series is decades old, it definitely can’t be said that Smash Bros has aged badly. With so much history, tons of games, characters, and DLC, it’s only natural that fans of the series have provided it with a rich catalog of hilarious memes. While it’s known for its battlegrounds brimming with bright colors and beloved, timeless Nintendo characters like Mario and Donkey Kong duking it out, the game has also featured characters from outside of the Nintendo umbrella, hailing from other well-renowned franchises such as Final Fantasy....

The Pokémon franchise has always had a really decent list of heavy-hitters, in addition to having tons of baby Pokémon that you’re much better off having the first evolutions of. Unfortunately for the bigger, more dangerous Pokémon, sometimes there are a few things that can get in the way of what it is they need to do, such as having an ability that really does nothing for them, or even worse, actively being an impediment to them being able to succeed in battle....

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is Insomniac Games’ latest love letter to a spider-powered superhero. Following-up to Marvel’s Spider-Man that came out in 2018, this title may be shorter and smaller in scale, but it is most definitely capable of holding up as its own title. Miles may be a new iteration of the Spider-Man character, but he has already garnered millions upon millions of fans all around the world. A game like this needs to address his deep mythos in the comics and other media, and Insomniac Games was able to do just that....

Players who want to hunt monsters in a post-apocalyptic landscape will enjoy Gunfire Games’ Remnant: From The Ashes. In this survival-horror action shooter, they create a character that can wield a wide variety of weapons and items as they slay creatures that roam the night. Unfortunately, creatures get tougher to kill the better players get in the game. However, “tougher” doesn’t mean “impossible.” Sometimes, players just need some tips to make their time with the game much more enjoyable....
