Even though everyone has a favorite, each type of Pokemon in the series has impressive aspects. Some excel in offense, while others in defense, or speed. Electric-types are those that possess much of the latter. Their swift movements combined with shocking force can leave most foes reeling or unconscious. There may not be as many Electric pokemon as other types, however, plenty of them fall victim to becoming gimmicks or end up being underwhelming in combat despite looking cool....

When Bethesda released the first The Elder Scrolls game in 1994, TES: Arena introduced a game-changer in the RPG landscape. At the time, this MS-DOS game served as the closest fans got to an actual open-world RPG. Whereas most players had to achieve this goal with text-based games or a long session of Dungeons & Dragons, TES: Arena provided almost the same experience to players. The Elder Scrolls has now expanded into quite the huge universe – with its own settings, lore, and even The Elder Scrolls Online to boot....

Dragon Age is considered by many to be one of the greatest Western RPGs around. The first Dragon Age game was a revolutionary title, allowing players to witness firsthand just how impactful a well-written high fantasy tale can be in a video game. As Dragon Age has evolved over time, so have its mechanics and — to an extent — its identity as well. People who jump into Inquisition right after Origins will still find the setting to be fairly similar… aside from a few key differences that have served to either modernize the franchise or frustrate fans altogether....

Ah, yes. After many hours and endless nights of rage quitting Bravely Default 2, I finally made it to the end of the game. Admittedly, the game did get easier once I learned how to utilize jobs and abilities more effectively, but some of those final bosses are truly no joke. After completing the game, I was feeling pretty good about myself. Considering the amount of reading and strategizing I had to do to make it through this game, I figured I must be at least a little bit better at strategy games than before I had started Bravely Default 2....

Much like the final film in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the announcement of Batman: Arkham Knight exploded into the spotlight to the fanfare of gamers and Batman fans alike. Looking to provide an experience that will exceed all past instances of Gotham’s cowled hero, hopes are high for this finale to the Arkham series of games. Those who closely follow the debate over issues of gender in video games will likely be aware of the small controversy that was kicked up this week over Deep Down, the upcoming dungeon-crawler from Capcom. From the medieval aesthetic to the fire-breathing dragon in the cinematic trailer, Deep Down looks Tolkienesque in more ways than one, and one of those ways is its apparent near-total lack of female characters. Since the best-known fantasy games tend to be RPGs with either customizable main characters or a mix of male and female characters in the adventuring party, the news that Deep Down would have twelve playable characters and that they would all be male caused something of a stir....

A number of iconic Marvel mascots have already been confirmed for the comic-centric sequel, the latest being an entire play set dedicated to Spider-Man and his super hero pals, and now Disney has finally announced another play set that’ll be coming to Disney Infinity 2.0. Get ready to go cosmic when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive in toy form later this year. Starring the characters from the forthcoming, highly anticipated, blockbuster movie, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax and Gamora will all be playable characters in the new game....

Much-publicized controversy and an impressive art style cannot hide the tedious shooter underneath Hatred’s veneer. When Hatred made its first public appearance, it became immediately clear that the title was going to become a serious talking point in the video game sphere. Icarus, the new game from Dean Hall’s RocketWerkz, is coming out this year. If you head to the game’s website, you’ll see it’s listed as free-to-play. However, it seems that this decision isn’t set in stone. Whatever is best for the game, that’s what the pricing model will be. According to Hall, he’s making Icarus because he has “unfinished business”. “I think I think I know where you’re coming from with that question,” Hall replied when asked if Icarus, a survival game, was suited to the free-to-play model, “I agree, we want to make sure that however we price it, however we do this, that we do it right for the game....

Avalanche Studios has quite the busy year ahead of them. Not only do they have Mad Max releasing just right around the corner on September 1st, but by the time 2015 comes to a close, they also plan on putting out the third game in their popular Just Cause action series, the aptly titled Just Cause 3. The game is set to release this holiday season on current-gen systems as well as the PC....

While many gamers put their finances in order in preparation for the launch of the PS4 on November 15th, a whole different set of gamers are still left waiting. We speak, of course, of those Xbox One fans that have been hoping that Microsoft might announce a release date sometime soon. Despite the original game becoming a cult hit shortly after its launch, the long-awaited sequel/reboot to Mirror’s Edge has had a rough time coming out of the gate. DICE has delayed the free-running action game a few times and, despite a few sneak peeks at prior E3s, fans haven’t learned anything substantial about the upcoming game yet. Although we’ve been calling the project Mirror’s Edge 2 or simply Mirror’s Edge (despite the confusion that causes), it sounds like DICE has been holding back the real title until now....

As gamers prepare to give the current generation of consoles its final send-off in eager anticipation of the shiny new machines that lay just over the horizon, Sony’s Japan Studio has taken a different approach. Somewhat quietly sneaking out amidst all of the pre-holiday hoopla is the PlayStation 3 exclusive, Puppeteer. Puppeteer tells the tale of Kutaro, a young boy who finds himself in puppet form and at the mercy of the terrible Moon Bear King....

The Saints Row franchise has come a long way from its beginnings as a Grand Theft Auto knock-off — and a new musical trailer shows the lengths that the upcoming Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell goes to embrace the eccentric sense of humor that has come to define the series. The near five-minute trailer sees Satan, his daughter and player characters Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington belting out a tongue-in-cheek musical number....

Shovel Knight is one of the biggest crowd funding success stories. Indie developer Yacht Club Games took to Kickstarter in 2013 to raise funds for its 2D love letter to the NES era, asking for a modest minimum funding goal of $75,000. The result was phenomenal. Yacht Club ended up raising $311,502, fulfilling all stretch goals for additional features. A lot was expected of Yacht Club’s title, with a list of influences including some of the most well-loved games of all time....

This last week I took two of my 85s to the Jade Forest in Mists of Pandaria. My first, as I noted last week is Sedagive, my Death Knight. Once I had her set up and running around, I decided to pull Abbysomeone, my Priest over. She is my first love, and I felt I had to get her over there. The talent trees have been changed quite bit. The first is a vital shock, gone are the vertical trees, now we have horizontal bars....

No matter how long it’s been since the series debuted, Crash Bandicoot will always remain beloved for its fans. The franchise saw a stretch where new games weren’t released, yet the main character’s popularity never waned in the slightest. Part of the charm of these games is accepting the logic it brings, which sees crazy stuff be considered as the norm. Funnier still is that these things are ridiculous even if one were to consider Crash Bandicoot’s in-universe logic, making them evergreen in their comedic quality....
