Some people say that creativity is purely the art of knowing how to hide your sources. Whether this is true or not, there’s no denying that Capcom’s world famous fighting franchise, Street Fighter, has actually borrowed quite a lot from real life. While many stages in the series are just references to and/or inspired by real locations, others are almost a pixel-by-pixel reconstruction of them. Besides that, although most characters in Street Fighter are intentionally exaggerated and larger than life, many of these trademark unusual fighters that you see in the game, their unique fighting styles and even their motivations, were all inspired by actual people....

As popular as the Sega Genesis was in the ‘90s, most gamers now view it as underpowered compared to its legendary rival, the SNES. That’s not entirely accurate, though. Yes, the SNES had more RAM and could display more colors simultaneously, but the Genesis had a faster CPU that allowed it to produce the kind of smooth animations previously limited to arcade titles. Of course, Sega’s marketing team at the time would have you believe that they also had “blast processing” on their side....

Now that Assassin’s Creed: Unity has been (slightly) delayed until November 11th, Ubisoft has two extra weeks to polish (and market) their first true next-generation entry in the popular open world game series. While Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was a major seller on the PS4 and Xbox One, the title was also available on last-gen consoles - meaning that even though it featured better visuals and reduced load times, the game was unable to take full complete advantage of next generation console hardware....

In just a few short months, the fall season will be upon us and with it will come a deluge of new game releases suited for a wide variety of tastes. As with past years, the latter months of 2014 are chalked full of new games, to the point it feels like October and November are over-stuffed. And now yet another game has added its name to the list. Just announced today, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be hitting last-gen platforms (PC, Xbox 360, and PS3) on October 14, 2014....

After fooling the community with a carefully chosen Dishonored game screenshot, along with today’s release of the Kinect voice update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda promised that they’d share official details on its first DLC/expansion pack. In March, Bethesda was spotted trademarking the name “Dawnguard,” sparking DLC rumors and speculation. Today, that speculation is justified as Skyrim’s first batch of added content is in fact, Dawnguard. In a somewhat underwhelming unveiling, Bethesda added an image to their official blog today with little context or additional information....

Yesterday’s announcement of Forza Horizon may have lead some players to believe that Forza Motorsport 4 has reached the end of the road. Not hardly. The game has been the recipient of monthly DLC ever since it launched last October, and is about to receive its biggest update yet: the Porsche Expansion Pack. With over 40 million copies sold and with seven Guinness World Records under its belt (including one for being the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion) there’s no denying that Grand Theft Auto V is a popular game. The latest game in the crime sandbox series switches things up, allowing players to take control of three characters (Michael, Franklin and Trevor) instead of just the usual one and its world is also bigger than past Grand Theft Auto games combined....

The game broke records with its PS3 and Xbox 360 release last year and later opened up the multiplayer Grand Theft Auto Online mode for all players which was received as positively. The game’s online was directionless, full of glitches and exploits and poor design choices that contradicted the fundamentals of the franchise’s gameplay....

“It was originally planned that Hawkeye [and Kate Bishop] were supposed to be echo fighters, like they were supposed to be clones, but that idea was quickly thrown out the window” Keano Raubun, narrative designer for Marvel’s Avengers, tells me. “We said ‘okay no, let’s realise Hawkeye is his own person, a really good character with his own skill set. All the animations and everything are all unique for Hawkeye.”...

Sucker Punch’s superhero/villain sandbox games inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 felt like very different titles, despite being two chapters of the same over-arching story. Some of that had to do with the writing, which underwent some significant improvements between the first game and the second that really brought the franchise’s colorful characters to life, but the change of setting also made inFAMOUS 2 feel like something radically new. While inFAMOUS was set in Empire City (which is unofficially twinned with the real-world location of New York City), inFAMOUS 2 saw Cole McGrath and his buddies flee south to New Marais, the in-game version of New Orleans....

The existence of Frostbite 3 hasn’t been made public knowledge for very long, but its power was well demonstrated during the recent Battlefield 4 unveiling. Hot on the heels of the recent release of Modern Warfare 3’s first DLC release, or Content Drop as Activision calls them, Call of Duty Elite has laid out a schedule so that fans will know roughly when to expect further maps, modes, and Spec-Ops missions. While the premium DLC schedule doesn’t give specific dates or details on the new content - it does offer a month by month breakdown of what types of content will be unveiled....

Just a day after its release, Naughty Dog addressed the problems with aiming in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception by saying that the general mechanics had been changed from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The consensus from the gaming community has been that the aiming tweaks work within the context of the game’s multiplayer, but present a problem within the game’s single player campaign. Now, about a week since Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception released, comes word that Naughty Dog has been in talks with fans to work out the aiming problems....
