Remedy Games technical producer Sasan Sepehr recently expressed concern about yesterday’s Xbox Series S reveal, noting that it’s a double-edged sword when you consider the sides of both consumers and producers. It’s not every day that a multiplatform, blockbuster video game franchise, beloved for its story and sprawling mythology, receives an exclusive entry, but such was the case with Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation. Released only for the PlayStation Vita alongside Assassin’s Creed 3, those without the handheld were left out in the cold. Until now, that is. Many months (and another proper Creed sequel) have passed since then, but fans of the series have been granted the chance to see the game’s story firsthand, appropriately tweaked and upgraded for home consoles....

Irrational Games made it clear with BioShock that toying with players’ minds and perceived realities was their top priority; for BioShock: Infinite, they took that idea and ran even farther with it. But with ideas of fate, time travel, alternate realities and quantum entanglement all at work in between the gunfights and ‘Vigors,’ some clarification is likely needed. BioShock: Infinite’s ending moments will no doubt leave most players speechless (as predicted by Ken Levine months ago), but it shouldn’t leave them confused....

It’s been all quiet on the BioShock Infinite front over the last few months. The last major piece of news to come from Irrational Games’ steampunk first person shooter was a brief teaser trailer at Spike’s Video Game Awards - but even that one played it close to the vest. Things might be starting to pick up, though, as a new press release from Irrational and publisher 2K Games details a new mode for Infinite’s single player campaign....

Ever since Modern Warfare 2 surpassed $3 billion in revenue, the gaming community has watched with interest as each subsequent Call of Duty installment carried the record-breaking bar even higher. At the same time, fans of the series (as well as detractors) have wondered if (and when) the mega-successful bubble might burst. Now, after setting a new franchise milestone, with $1 billion in week one sales, it’s looking as though Black Ops 2 might be the first title in Call of Duty console history to sell less copies (long term) than its predecessor....

Destiny is doing big business for both Bungie and Activision, despite reviews for the game (including our own first impressions) criticizing it for being repetitive and lacking when it comes to its story. People are still playing and enjoying the game however, mostly due to its solid shooting mechanics and ability to team with other players. This proves that critical reception isn’t the only factor that determines how well a game performs....

The Dragon Age II: Mark of the Assassin DLC has been released - adding another fine layer of mythos and intrigue to the story of the Champion of Kirkwall. Many game fans will no doubt count the new content as the best part of Dragon Age II - simply due to the likeness and voice work of geek-goddess, Felicia Day. Okay, Day might not be entirely responsible for the success of the DLC but, nonetheless, “Mark of the Assassin” is a worthwhile add-on for fans of the series....

Two weeks have passed since Grand Theft Auto 5 was released for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and fans of Rockstar’s action-adventure franchise have undoubtedly been clocking in plenty of hours in the world of Los Santos. Players that braved the connectivity issues were even able to get their first taste of Grand Theft Auto Online last night. Although console owners are living it up in Rockstar’s latest sandbox, PC gamers are still anxiously awaiting an official announcement of a PC port of GTA5....

IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 rounds out the assassination trilogy starring Agent 47. Like the other titles in the series, players will have to find and take down specific targets by using items scattered around the environment. There are different methods that players can use to complete the missions, and repeating levels over and over to find new techniques is part of what makes Hitman 3 so unique. Alongside the main story missions, the game also offers a challenges section in the main menu that allows players to earn experience points by completing various tasks....

According to Jim Whitston - lead battle designer for Total War: Warhammer 3 at Creative Assembly - the dev team actively decided against staying within their comfort zones in creating the game. While it would have been tempting for them to stick with certain tried-and-tested methods, they apparently opted to push their boundaries. In a recent exclusive interview TheGamer held with Whitston, he explained the reasoning behind this decision, which mainly seems to boil down to the desire to pour more variety into the game....

With a cast that includes such obscure characters as Bat Cow and Krypto the Super Dog, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is already looking like a DC fans’ dream. However, publisher Warner Bros. and developer Traveller’s Tales continue to surprise us with new character announcements left and right, many of which seem perfectly suited for this exciting game. Just today, for example, LEGO Batman 3 added several new characters into its fold....

It’s hard to imagine where BioWare would be without Drew Karpyshyn. A lead writer on venerable titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Mass Effect 2, Karpyshyn joined BioWare 12 years ago and was indispensable in seeing the Canadian game developer become synonymous with top tier storytelling. However, as Mass Effect 3 edges painfully closer to its March 6 release, Commander Shepard isn’t the only series hallmark who’s hanging up the armor plates and seeking greener pastures....

In addition to the Mass Effect 3: Resurgence Pack adding free unlockable multiplayer content for Mass Effect 3 next week, the game is also receiving some needed updates that address a few bugs and the infamous custom face loading issue that hampered the experience for many players before they could even get into the game. Unfortunately, the face issue correction is a simply too late for the majority of Mass Effect 3 players who’ve already beaten the game, and there are a few issues, specifically with multiplayer, not addressed here at all....

The latest Need For Speed title was shown off with gusto at the Electronic Arts E3 2013 Conference, which was introduced by popular Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul - he’ll be the main character in the upcoming movie of the same name. Need For Speed Rivals is set for a 2013 release on current generation consoles, though its release date on next-generation consoles is still to be determined. Electronic Arts has launched the official E3 trailer for the street racing simulator to give fans another taste of the game post-conference....

Today’s game is: Nidhogg from developer Messhof. Nidhogg is, on the surface, a very simple game. It pits two players up against each other, puts swords in their 8-bit hands, and asks them to fight. What happens after that, however, is pure chaos…in the best way possible....

Earlier today, Capcom revealed plans to give Resident Evil Zero the HD treatment through a new video on the official Resident Evil YouTube channel. After 13 years since Resident Evil Zero original hit store shelves, fans will be happy to note that the original director on the title, Koji Oda, is back leading this project with a number of veteran developers as well. Serving as a prequel title to the original Resident Evil, Zero pairs death row criminal Billy Coen with police officer Rebecca Chalmers as they work together to survive a viral outbreak that’s turning people into zombies....

As one of the first games announced for the next generation of consoles, Eidos Montreal’s upcoming reboot Thief may have gotten a jump on the competition. But since then, the continuous parade of stunning visuals and next-gen game worlds in production has caught up. Controversy or no, the developers are going to have to work to stay in the conversation. The latest trailer will no doubt help, containing a healthy amount of in-game footage and gameplay as the brand new Garrett picks his way across ‘The City,’ robbing from its wealthiest citizens, and eliminating any obstacle - or anyone - that gets in his way....

Of the six Ubisoft launch titles for the Nintendo Wii U, ZombiU is by far the most unique and not because of its strange development history, beginning as a sci-fi shooter dubbed Killer Freaks From Outer Space. ZombiU is not only exclusive to the system and its tablet-esque GamePad, but it’s also a game unusual to the Wii brand in that it’s specifically geared towards the ‘hardcore’ gamer. Is ZombiU a survivor against a horde of zombie-themed entertainment during the busiest video games release window of the year?...

Thanks to this, there has been an uptick in Playstation 4 anime-based games being translated into English and released in the west.
