Rust discussed her favorite games, dream roles, predictions for the future of the industry, and much more. Voice actors often share some of the most interesting anecdotes about the process of making video games, but Rust’s breadth of experience lends an especially interesting perspective on both video games and more traditional forms of media. The following interview has been edited for clarity and brevity. GR: It’s rare to mix video game and traditional acting, but you’ve done so- what are the major differences between the mediums?...

The relationship between Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been somewhat confusing since the beginning. Originally perceived as two separate, but linked games, Konami eventually explained the reality: Ground Zeroes was just a taste of what was to come, offering an early look at the gameplay systems and changes to the formula fans could expect from the next numbered installment. Minecraft is still in its beta stage and while the biggest patch ever for the game, the 1.8 Adventure Update, is still in the works, most of the Minecraft updates up until now have included ideas and even mods first designed by the community. Because of that, the sometimes lengthy time between updates and Notch and the crew at Mojang using fan mods, they’ve take a little criticism from some of the Minecraft community....

Probably not surprising, Modern Warfare 3 set a new five day selling record, grossing a staggering $775 million in its first five days of release. The previous Call of Duty, Black Ops, had sold $650 million in the five day period it released last year. It’s a very safe assumption to make that people like Call of Duty. This franchise has successfully set the record for highest selling entertainment property for three years running....

There’s absolutely no mature way to phrase this, so I’ll just go ahead and say it: Girl has finally reached Uranus. That’s right, a new level has finally been unlocked in the bizarre PSN title Noby Noby Boy. Levels in Noby Noby Boy are unlocked by the community, as they stretch out their characters and contribute their total length to a being known as Girl. As more and more players contribute, Girl grows longer until she reaches a new planet, which also opens up new areas for players....

Despite what people say, online gaming wasn’t new when Xbox Live launched in 2002. Sega had been playing with the idea for years, culminating in a proprietary network called SegaNet for the ill-fated Dreamcast console. Meanwhile, PC gamers have been enjoying online multiplayer commercially since at least 1984, when CompuServe debuted the ASCII-based RPG Island of Kesmai. Still, after Xbox Live hit, first with Unreal Championship before moving on to Halo 2, there was no looking back....

With BlizzCon having just recently come to an end after giving gamers a look at the brand new expansion for Blizzard’s behemoth of an MMO, World Of Warcraft, excitement has died down enough for other upcoming MMOs to show off their own immersive worlds. Earlier this year, THQ released their over-the-top WWE All Stars video game. No other fictional world has a more dystopian war junkie heaven than what Games Workshop created for the tabletop category. Companion pets have been in World of Warcraft since the beginning. During the Mists of Pandaria expansion, the concept of battle pets was introduced. Players were now able to explore the world and catch hundreds of critters that were previously untouchable. Battle pets are a lot like Pokémon. You can pit them against each other in little tournaments and capture more to add to your collection. Now at the end of Battle for Azeroth, there are thousands of battle pets to collect....

Dormant franchises are abundant, and especially when it comes to Nintendo. Nintendo is one of the oldest gaming companies around. We at least can cross Pokémon Snap off our list now that New Pokémon Snap is coming soon. However, New Pokémon Snap’s announcement really outlined how much potential the Nintendo Switch has when it comes to reviving a whole host of fantastic and long-forgotten franchises. The Nintendo Switch only released in 2017, so Nintendo has time to get to work....

On October 1st Nintendo announced the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it was a real shocker.
