It would be impossible to talk about some of the biggest and most revered video game publishers out there without mentioning Rockstar Games, the proprietors of the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series who have easily become one of the biggest and most celebrated developers in the industry for all the right reasons. Pretty much all of their games feature amazing character, beautiful open-worlds, excellent gameplay… and some of the greatest stories ever told through the medium of video games....

As a whole, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory doesn’t make sense. On one hand, creating a rhythm game in the same vein as Theatrhythm Final Fantasy makes sense because the series is known for its good music. It’s also known for having a crazy story and being an RPG. The way in which it tries to add in story and the leveling system both leave something to be desired. It doesn’t feel thrown together, but the way it was assembled should leave even the most diehard of fans scratching their heads....

2020 was a year of surprises on the gaming front. Everyone expected the year to be ruled by remakes and triple-A titles that have dominated the headlines for years, but it turned out to be unknown games that stole the show. It turned out that it was games like Among Us, Genshin Impact, and Fall Guys that captured the imagination of fans. I went into 2020 expecting that Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Persona 5 Royal, or Vampire: Masquerade Bloodlines 2 would be my GOTY....

Although it’s been largely snubbed by AAA publishers of late, the survival horror genre is one that has stubbornly refused to die. Indie games like Slender, Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast have proven that there is still a market for gamers who want horror games where the threats can’t be blasted away with a few bullets to the face. The last game based on the Alien movie franchise, Aliens: Colonial Marines, did not put much stock in the idea of chillingly quiet journeys down dark corridors without any weapons....

The initiated Assassin’s Creed fans have plenty to look forward to come this Halloween, and we’re not talking about candy. We’re referring to Assassin’s Creed 3, which will be setting the bar higher than ever where story is concerned, but a smoother, more intuitive play style, new animations, new traversal and the best graphics to date are also in the plans. Just because the cosmetic elements may not have an impact on Connor’s personal story or the American Revolution, that doesn’t make it any less likely that fans will spend endless hours in a quest to unlock Connor’s Mohawk Armor once they take a look at the concept art....

It was only yesterday that we brought the news that Borderlands 2’s first (of a proposed four) story expansions had been discovered by clever PC gamers, and now it appears that discovery has spurned developer Gearbox Software into officially announcing the DLC. In fact, rather than leave gamers waiting long for more content, Gearbox has announced this next expansion will be releasing in the now vacant Mechromancer (that new class released yesterday) release date, October 16th....

It’s already been quite a week for Call of Duty. Modern Warfare 3 launched with record breaking pre-orders and day one shipments, while Black Ops emerged as the best selling game of 2011 (so far). But it hasn’t all been sunshine and lollipops for Call of Duty’s caretakers. Specifically, there have been problems with Call of Duty: Elite from the moment Modern Warfare 3 went on sale. Players have been frustrated in their efforts to register for Call of Duty: Elite, a minor (if annoying) inconvenience for free members, but a more pressing concern for premium members, if only because of the expensive involved....

Making a sequel bigger and better often comes at the price of changing the basic gameplay to appeal to a wider audience. Fortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case with Darksiders 2, as the art style and approach to traversal and combat seem to be a logical evolution of the previous game. Thanks to a new look at the game’s actual environments and inventory systems, fans both old and new can see what’s in store when Darksiders 2 is released this summer....

Crytek’s original Far Cry game was praised for its beautiful tropical island environments. For the sequel, Ubisoft Montreal took over development and changed up the formula quite a bit. The game was more realistic, and there was a new story, new characters, new gameplay features, and most noticeably, the setting was moved to central Africa. For the third core installment, Ubisoft Montreal brings back and builds upon many of the well-received features from their first stab at the series, but takes Far Cry 3 back to its roots on a lush tropical setting, this time embracing the theme of insanity....

Travelers logging onto Genshin Impact today will find a new special message in their inboxes. Though the sender seems to be erroneously appearing in Chinese for all players, rest assured, it’s simply miHoYo -the game’s developer- would actually appreciate some fan insight again, and it seems they have more than a penny to offer for players’ thoughts. Players have had the opportunity to take similar feedback surveys in the past, and this one is like no other....

Though it won’t be a while before we get a closer look at Grand Theft Auto 5 in action, whether through a new trailer or an official unveiling by Rockstar Games, there are several ways to still get your GTA fix. Some involve modding the current Grand Theft Auto, number four, but the most intriguing new outlet has been fan recreations of trailers. We’ve seen the real GTA V trailer, which is surprisingly light on story or gameplay details, but heavy on improved graphics and car modeling, but gamers can only watch that so many times before it runs its course....

Traveller’s Tales LEGO games are a bit of anomaly. Most of them are wholly charming puzzle platformers that predicate much of their appeal on an associated franchise – be it Batman, Harry Potter, or Indiana Jones – that also deliver family friendly humor and an engaging cooperative experience. Over the years, TT Games has introduced several arguably much-needed features to the franchise, but ultimately if you’ve seen one LEGO game you’ve seen them all....

There’s still relatively little information available about Hello Games’ upcoming sci-fi adventure title No Man’s Sky, but that won’t stop the cascade of salivation every time a new snippet of gameplay footage gets released. Putting the color and wonder back into games themed around space exploration, No Man’s Sky will drop players into a vast galaxy full of procedurally generated star systems and planets, and let them decide for themselves what they want to do in that galaxy....

Gamers may have felt that there was little common ground between games like Telltale’s The Walking Dead and Klei Entertainment’s Mark of the Ninja.
